Hi, Dima. Welcome to the group. I love Dame Agatha, too! Have you read any of P.D. James's mysteries? Since you love Christie, you will probably love James, too. I love her. : )

Hi, James, and welcome to the group! We are thrilled to have you as a member! What a coincidence! I just bought your book Snow Angels about a week ago. I haven't started it yet, but it was very highly recommended by a friend. The Nordic noir element is quite intriguing to me. I hope you enjoy MCT.

Thanks Jenni, I agree there is no better job for us book addicts! It was either work at a library or bookstore for me. Two of my favorite authors that I recommend are Karin Slaughter, and Lisa Gardner. Since I'm new to the group can you tell me how do I send out recommendations to y'all?

That's so sad, esp. for the children, and young adults who go to the library. You want to be nice and helpful to everyone so that they will come back.

C. Stepp Hi! My name is C. Martin Stepp and I am a new author and a relatively new member on goodreads. I hope it's ok to post links to my novels here. Walking Backwards and Two Thursdays Both books are set in Cincinnati, Ohio where I grew up. I no longer live there, but I thought it would make a great setting for humorous detective fiction.

I have only read 2 Martina Cole novels but they left me with the feeling that everyone was going to be the same basic story. Not for me really.

message 1377: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (temagami) | 45 comments Hi Everyone,
Thanks to Goodreads giveaways and my disgust with books to do with an ongoing obsession in the book market with werewolves, blood suckers (vampires) and zombies my favorite genres have expanded to include mysteries, thrillers and crime stories. Among the authors who have captured my attention are Kathy Reichs and James Patterson, but I have also discovered several new authors as well. As a person who likes to write I love a story that keeps me guessing right to the end.

message 1378: by M (new)

M T Hello everyone. My name is Mary Thomas and I am a nurse. I am originally from Wales but have lived on Vancouver Island for 12 years. I love mystery/thrillers especially medical or psychological ones. I have just finished Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and the Magpies by Mark Edwards, both of which I enjoyed. I am currently delving into Lisa Unger but after reading two I need something a bit grittier.I also won't read anything about vampires zombies etc. Although I do like memoirs and the occasional chicklit.

message 1379: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Rossie Hi,
My name is Jennifer. I am a nurse who reads everything I can get my hands on. But I am in grad school so I am currently at a standstill. But I do listen to audiobooks in the car on the way to work. I also just finished Gone Girl and was blown away.

message 1382: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Castille Hi everyone!

I'm Sarah, a Canadian lawyer and Goodreads author. I am also a longtime crime and thriller reader which I wholly blame on my mother who is addicted to true crime books. My erotic legal thriller, Legal Heat (Samhain Publishing)debuts next week. It is the one thriller my Mom will never read :) Next up on my reading list is...Gone Girl!

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) | 428 comments Hi everyone, my name is Robin and I live in Hawaii. I joined this group about a month ago. I am finding it a great addition to my cozy mysteries group. I love doing the games on the site. I love all kinds of mysteries, starting with Agatha Christie, and Phyllis Whitney, and onto Sue Grafton, and Diane Mott Davidson, and also M. C. Beaton of the Hamish Macbeth series also.

message 1385: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Hello all. I'm Kelly a stay at home mom in California. I was just invited to this group a couple of days ago. I have been on Goodreads off and on for about 5 years, but have become more active lately. Love all kinds of mysteries from Agatha Christie to true crime (e.g. Ann Rule), to cozy mysteries and thrillers. So, looking forward to getting to know this group!

Separate from mysteries, I am also attempting the 1001 Books to Read before you die challenge just to mix it up.

message 1386: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi! My name is Delmy, from canada, i am a university student, which doesn't leave much room for reading but schools just about over!
This is my first genre specific group I've joined, I love mysteries and crime novels (fiction, don't like nonfiction) though not exclusively I love horror and the classics, have recently gotten into fantasy (game of thrones) and some science fiction ( though its mostly classic science fiction).
I am very sure I am going to enjoy this group, I will have to explore later on, nice to meet y'all!!! :D

message 1387: by [deleted user] (new)

Kelly- I am also going to attempt the 1001 books, that is a monumental task though!! Good luck with yours!!

Hi Jenni it's 3 if you count me I'm a psychiatric nurse.

message 1391: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Markkula (lisam) Hello, I from Nothern California and have loved using Goodreads, especially to keep track of series and what I have read. I am on here sporadically as I teach part time and take care of my family, which can be very busy at times. So when I have a few minutes I read, I mostly read mysteries, especially cozy type. I have grown too old to read much gore and many of the books that are more hardcore, I have trouble reading because I am always amazed at what humans can and will do.

However, I do like j.d. Robb books and have read many of the other writers mentioned on here; but I don't have a lot of time to read as much as I would like. I do look forward to exploring more suggestions from this group and following the discussions.

Thankyou, I am also a Theatre nurse. I am still negotiating my way around Goodreads but am excited to discover new authors. Even though I have been in Canada for 12 years I am still very drawn to British authors but enjoy any good mysteries.

Ian Rankin's Inspector Rebus is a good detective series, too.

Welcome to the group, Lisa! I understand having a busy life and having to find special time to read. I, too, do not read books filled with gore and horrific violence. I don't understand the need for it and don't want it in my head. I like suspense novels and detective procedurals, which you will find here. There are many members like us here! ; ) I am certain you will find plenty of like minded members here who will share recommendations with you.

Welcome again!
