Tower Team A: The "A" Team

I didn't mean to insult anyone. I was just worried about how long it takes me to read a book. I was born with a birth defect in my eyes/brain and my parents were told I would never be able to read or play sports. (I proved them wrong!) But, I read slowly and didn't want to let the team down. "
No insult taken. My sister is easily distracted, so audiobooks are a no-no to her. For me, it depends on the narrator. There are a few series that I won't even consider other format, since the narrator is so damn good that the standard book feels plain in comparison.
You won't let the team down. Everybody has their own reading pace, real life demandings. I can speak only for myself, but I think the main objective of reading challenges is 1)challenge yourself and 2)reading as many good books as we can. Clearly, you already did 1) proving them wrong. 2) Is the best/fun part of the process.
Happy readings

Anyway, here the numbers:
TEAM A - 56
TEAM B - 40
TEAM C - 38
TEAM D - 31
woohooo, go A-Team!!!!

I'm sobbing on your behalf.
I was halfway through when they pushed the release date back to 2014. It was not a happy day, sigh.
PS. Go A-Team! We have awesome spies :P
I'm hoping that all 56 of our books are actually legit!

Yeah, me too. I can't check on them now - I'm kinda at work, so I'm supposed to be working ** whistles** - but, for the ones I did look last night, the page count was good to go.
Which reminds me that I'll have to check with Mary if she needs help with the page count or anything else :o)

I'm next reading

Yes, Sonia! I need help! *pleads and begs* I'll send you a PM with details.

Ahh, I know! 2014 is so far away!
@ Teresa
I've heard great things about The Light Between Oceans! Let us know what you think of it when you finish!

All Teams: Please watch your page count and start dates. Your team may not have as many books as you think. PM's having been going out to members asking them to remove books.

I'm going to start to books. I started reading Act Of Treason on my NookColor and when that is charging, I will be reading Misspent Youth. I couldn't get into Misspent Youth after reading a few chapters so I'm going to just stick to Act Of Treason.

Awwwww, thanks Stacie :o)

If you like those books then you will like the Infernal Devices books. They are very similar. It is also pretty cool how she ties the two series together. I am really excited about the new series."
I really hope that I'm going to like it :D. I'm like 3/4 through City of Glass

@❥☪LIZZ NEILL☪❥: Atta Girl! :o) I loved Cry Wolf, love Anna & Charles interaction. I've read good things about Shadow and Bone.

I'm taking Shadow and Bone to work do I can read it on break
Magnificent Devices is done! I'm going to read a bit of A Feast for Crows and then probably start on another H. G. Wells novel. Woo!

wooohooo... way to go Tia!
Now I feel I'm not reading at all...

Thanks, Stacie! That made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :-)

I think you meant me, the exam stuff it is unclear because I replied to Ashley and it looks like she said it? I don't know... :P But thank you anyways :)

I just finished

I'm not sure if I should start on a new book before-after Thursday, doubt it, ughhh hate exams sometimes :c

Yes, it was meant for you, sorry about that, the brain was sleepy today. I lost count how many comments I had to edit because the words didn't have all the letters or were missing and phrases didn't make sense.
So, did you like the book?
Is just one week, a terrible one, but you'll be ready to start reading again before you know it! Good luck once again :)

Would something like Chicken Soup for the Teacher's Soul: Stories to Open the Hearts and Rekindle the Spirit of Educators work for the challenge, as long as I finish the whole book? I might have to wait for my next set of books to come in from the library and am just planning ahead.

Yes. It is fine, Karla.

*) Ah no worries and I loved the book! I was having a tough time writing a proper review, it left me speechless & worried at some parts and happy & relieved the other times. It was so nerve-racking !! Thank you once again :D
I know that there are other pages for this, but I just wanted to run a possible challenge idea past people to see if people would be interested in it before I send it off to the mods.
So I was searching through the Project Gutenburg website and thinking about what challenge I wanted to do next, when the complete works of Shakespeare popped up as a possible downloaded. And I was like, huh, you know what? I almost NEVER read plays. Or poetry, for that matter. And it got me thinking about how to fix that.
So what about a challenge that pushes us out of our comfort zones? If you read mostly novels, read ten or fifteen plays. If you read mostly plays, read ten books of poetry. Etc., etc. Is this something people would be interested in? If so, I might send it on to the mods!

I'll pass your idea along to the other mods, Tia. Thanks! I would be interested in something like this. I've been wanting to read more poetry. I'm not sure if we've got something like this already (I've only been a mod for a few months), but here's the Reading Challenge Index if you want to browse it.
@Tia: I'm checking with Lisarenee about the rest of the criteria of your challenge suggestion.

Finished Act Of Treason by Vince Flynn. I could read his books any time and now I am trying Walking on Broken Glass. Hope its good.

Oh! Love a good "cozy," Barb. Added the Cackleberry Club series to my TBR Tower! And, my library has them. ☺

I love listening to books while I do cleaning (which I hate!)
Even though I'm not a fast reader I do find that the audio version most times is slower than if I was reading them. I tried listening while reading and found I had to speed up the audiobook to sync with my reading. And you do have to make sure your mind doesn't wander or you wind up rewinding the book. I use a bluetooth device so I don't have to worry about wires.

Not to mention... it gets too funny listening to an author swap between voice-genders during a romantic scene.
Sadly, there aren't a lot of audio-books that feature two readers. During a long drive, though, I try to suck it up. Beggars can't be choosers.

They seem to be doing the two narrators a little more lately. I like that better. I find women are better at doing males than the other way around. I find that as long as the narrator makes the voices different enough I can tell the different characters apart. They don't have to sound too different though. One of the books I am listening to now just sucks me in so well "Old Man's War" that I don't even know time is passing by.

Oh most definitely! I've started audiobooks only to give up on the book rather quickly because I couldn't stand the reader LOL One book I listened to recently had a reader who felt the need to (I guess) act out each line of dialogue. "Stop ... right ... there ... or ... you ... will ... regret ... it" Argh, it drove me nuts! I have to figure out which book it was so I can avoid that reader in the future :)
Another pet peeve is the books that are "enhanced" -- music, sound effects, anything other than just straight reading. If I want sound effects and music, I'll see the movie!
One of my favorite readers is Scott Brick, who reads Steve Berry's books and some by Orson Scott Card. I also like Ron McLarty, who reads David Baldacci's newer books. I'm sure there are more, but those are the two that come to mind first :)

One of the better ones I've listened to recently that had both a male and female narrator was The Scorpio Races. Both Steve West and Fiona Hardingham did a fantastic job, but the latter was especially brilliant.

The audio for The Help is the same way -- each of the main characters has a very distinctive "voice" (each by a different reader), and they were all really well done.

I see you're discussing audio books - I have to admit I have never listened to a whole audio book. I've started listening to one of Bill Bryson's books on audio, and also The Dark Tower series by Stephen King (which I have already read in traditional book form, but wanted to re-live the story), but my thoughts drift too much to concentrate on listening. So kudos to all you who can concentrate enough (and not fall asleep, which tends to happen to me)!

Taking in consideration how the sequel ends, I agree with you... buuuuuut if I did the same I wouldn't read the best book of 2012... of course I didn't knew the realease date from the final book till I finished
