message 205: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Name: Sónia
Location (optional): Portugal
Favorite Book of All Time: Still looking for it, I have several favorites but can't choose THE ONE, maybe this year I'll find it.
Favorite Book of 2012: Days of Blood & Starlight
Favorite Book Genre: I've already answered, but forgot YA fantasy, so I'd say contemporary fantasy (UF, YA, PNR)
Favorite Animal: Felines in general, specially my kitty
Favorite Cartoon: a close call between Gummi Bears and Chip'n'Dale
Favorite Movie: The Lion King
If I could meet any fictional character, it would be: right now, it would be Jericho Barrons (Jim or Curran would be amazing ones to know in person too)
Some of my other hobbies/interests are: baking, I like cooking too but there is something about baking... specially bars (brownies and blondies are an addiction), everything that has chocolate or caramel in it, I have to try making it! I also like TV shows - huge fan of Bones and Supernatural, Leverage, Castle and Criminal Minds, and reality shows - not all just Top Chef, So You Think You Can Dance, America's Next Top Model and The Biggest Loser. I also like jigsaw puzzles, crochet and decoupage.

Name: Tia
Location: Midwest
Favorite Book of All Time: Inkheart, The War of the Worlds, Our Mutual Friend, and so many others.
Favorite Book of 2012: Magnificent Devices
Favorite Book Genre: Science fiction, dystopian, and post-apocalyptic.
Favorite Animal: Cow
Favorite Cartoon: Adventure Time
Favorite Movie: The Boondock Saints, Fight Club, and pretty much everything Quentin Tarantino has ever made.
If I could meet any fictional character, it would be: Either Hermione Granger, Gandalf, or Mo from Inkheart. All of them prove that magic is real, which is all I've ever wanted in life. =p
Some of my other hobbies/interests are: I also enjoy playing video games, playing Dungeons & Dragons, crafting, and watching movies.

Barb Tia wrote: "I'm just curious, but what is everyone's favorite genre or genres? I'm a diehard sci-fi and dystopian fan myself, but am always interested in seeing what other people are reading. =)"

Mysteries, especially cozies, and thrillers are my comfort reads, but I also enjoy some contemporary fiction and historical fiction too :)

message 210: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Name: Stacie
Location (optional): Maryland
Favorite Book of All Time: Why do you ask the hard questions?!?!? I guess I'll pick A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith because I recommend it the most and really do love it.
Favorite Book of 2012: The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
Favorite Book Genre: I don't really know how to answer this one. I read a lot of what I guess is called Contemporary Fiction. I love some young adult books, especially the dystopian ones. Loves me some Nora Roberts/JD Robb. I don't really like westerns or sci fi and I'm really picky about historical fiction.
Favorite Animal: Flamingo, Owl, Cow
Favorite Cartoon: I loves me some Beavis and Butthead. Others would be Pinky and the Brain, Animaniacs and then things like old school He-Man/She-Ra/Thundercats/Jem
Favorite Movie: This is probably the hardest one for me to answer because nothing comes to mind. I love a lot of different movies but I can't really pick a favorite. Maybe Heathers or Pump Up the Volume or Bill and Ted cause I tend to quote those the most.
If I could meet any fictional character, it would be: I'd love to meet Roarke from the In Death series but that's cause he's a fine fine looking man. Right now, I can't think of a more serious answer so that will have to do. ;)
Some of my other hobbies/interests are: There are other hobbies then reading?!!? I love crossword/word puzzles. I love playing board games, eating a new restaurants and just watching tv.

Favorite Book Genre: mystery/thriller
Favorite Animal: dogs ... or maybe penguins
Favorite Cartoon: Peanuts
Favorite Movie: any of the original Star Wars trilogy

Barb, and everyone else, if you loose track of that, just remember that Post #3 has a listing all the team members hyperlinks to their individual challenge posting.

By going to them individually. Or, better yet, once you are looking at yours, if you click "view community progress," you can see your teammates. If you roll your mouse over their books, you can see the star ratings.

If someone has set their bookshelves to "private," and you are NOT their friend, you will be unable to view this feature. But, you can always make new friends. ☺

While you CAN access all the teams from our Home Page, there is NO way to see all the teams' progress at once. (You would need to click individually on each Team.) However, there will be Status Updates done by the Team Captains. We are still discussing the need for the frequency of this.

I've read all of the City of ___ books and they are really good. Don't forget about City of Lost Souls after City of Fallen Angels.

If you like those books then you will like the Infernal Devices books. They are very similar. It is also pretty cool how she ties the two series together. I am really excited about the new series.

message 239: by Mary (new)

Mary (merinwe) | 1043 comments @ Karla
Beauty and the Beast! Probably my favorite animated movie of all time. :-D Love Pride and Prejudice, too.

@ ❥☪LIZZ NEILL☪❥
I used to hate Gone with the Wind. I couldn't stand it. I decided to watch it again, though, with an open mind, and I loved it!

@ Alexa
Love Hunger Games and the Delirium series. :-) I used to be really into graphic design (not professionally, just as a hobby), but now I can't even load Photoshop on my laptop because it's so old. Sad face.

@ Gayle
Wow, I would love to be able to cross-stich and embroider and weave. That sounds amazing! My sister taught me how to knit once and I promptly forgot.

@ Zina
Pinky & the Brain! Woo! Also, Bitten was recommended to me recently, so I'll hopefully be picking it up soon.

@ Stephanie
Ditto with The Fault in Our Stars! Love that one of your interests is "sleeping." ;-)

@ Elaine
Love Daughter of Smoke & Bone! The sequel is pretty amazing, too. Fred & George Weasley are pretty good choices!

I still have to read the book

message 244: by Barb (new)

Barb Listening to an audiobook takes as much concentration -- or maybe even more -- as reading a print book. It's easy to let your mind wander when you're listening, so you have to stay focused on the story in order to prevent that.

message 245: by Auggie (new)

Auggie (auggietalk) Audio books sometimes take longer to get through as well. I've found that reading is faster than listening to an audio-book... though audio is more convenient if you're doing something that allows you to listen but not have your full concentration on something like a book (driving for example).

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 705 comments I hope I will be done with my first book to count with this challenge here in a couple of days.

And I am loving the book too. I might even finish it sooner.

And when I am done with Black Dust Mambo (Hoodoo, #1) by Adrian Phoenix I am going to read Dime Store Magic (Women of the Otherwold, #3) by Kelley Armstrong

Not entirely sure which one I'll start tomorrow. Possibly Ash by Malinda Lo .

message 249: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (ofdustandstarlight) @Mary
I know! The only reason I'm not done with the second book is because the third only comes out in 2014. Clearly someone up there hates me.

I'm finally done with my first book, moving on to finishing The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky and picking up Pantomime by Laura Lam Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (Miss Peregrine, #1) by Ransom Riggs soon.

Oh, I know that. Which is one reason I won't listen to them. I would lose concentration.

I didn't mean to insult anyone. I was just worried about how long it takes me to read a book. I was born with a birth defect in my eyes/brain and my parents were told I would never be able to read or play sports. (I proved them wrong!) But, I read slowly and didn't want to let the team down.
