INTRODUCTIONS *newbies - over here* DON'T BE SHY!
Hi! I'm Kaitlin (Kat or Kay) and I love almost every main character that's a girl. I really love Tessa Gray, Clary Fray, Hermione Granger is a personal favorite, Daenerys Targaryen, Katniss Everdeen, Annabeth Chase, Piper McLean, Max Ride, Linh Cinder, Hazel Grace, Tris Prior, and oh crap that's a lot. All of the series and authors from the above mentioned characters I love, and more I think because I can't remember some books sadly :(I try to read a lot of different genres, but I'm attracted to mostly action and adventure, dystopian, or plain old satire for humor's sake.
I'm Allie and right now, my favorite YA writer is Catherynne Valente and her books about September. I like dystopian and coming-of-age books. I'm actually trying to write one myself right now, so hopefully seeing how y'all feel about and respond to books will help keep me inspired :)
Hi everyone :) I'm Maddy and I'm from Wales. I turned 19 yesterday and I'm a reader and writer of YA fiction! My favourite series are Harry Potter (introduced me to YA fiction), Divergent, The Hunger Games and Maximum Ride. Favourite character... either Tris from Divergent or Max from Maximum Ride! :)
Welcome to the group Mariska and Madison!I would listen to Jenny: please join in on our discussions and recent challenges. :)

Hi, Maddy :) I have cousins that have just moved here to Australia from Wales. I love a welsh accent!
I've been meaning to read Maximum Ride, have you read Vampire Academy at all?
Hi everybody!I'm Flora! Happy to be here. I love talking about female characters and how they can be written. My favourite books are actually many - I guess I can name a few, such as the Harry Potter series, recently Percy Jackson, and of course the amazing A Song of Ice and Fire series (which you may know as the origin of the HBO series "Game of Thrones"). :))
My favorite heroine would be a divide by two between Sansa Stark and Daenerys Targaryen from ASOIAF. I'd name Cersei Lannister too, but with all of her actions considered I can't call her a heroine, lol.
Favorite genres are fantasy and sci-fi!!
Welcome to the group Flora! You should check out our Book Club Challenge for this month. There's an entire folder for it.
HiI am quite new to Goodreads and loved the fact there is a group for those who do not want to be rescued!!
Favourite genres end of the world/ climate change/ sci fi with some more serious stuff thrown in. Favourite authors Gudrun Pausewang whose books always have strong female leads, John Wyndham who's heroines are beautifully old fashioned but always game for adventure.
I write fiction and always try to make my heroines shoot first and ask questions later...... Water's Edge
Hi! I'm Jess. I read so many books and have so many favorites. It might take me all day to list them all. :) But some recent good ones were The Scorpio Races and The Shiver Trilogy by: Maggie Steifvater, and Delirium/Pandemonium/Requiem by: Lauren Oliver.
My favorite author is Margaret Peterson Haddix (anything and everything by her is awesome), and my second favorite author is John Green.
I look forward to being an active member of this group!
Hey, I'm Diana from Tijuana B.C I'm eighteen years old, my favorite books (This month because I have a lot of favorites and I change my mind once a new book is read) is To Kill a Mocking bird, 1984 and Pride & Prejudice.
I don't have one favorite author, I like a lot, I love John Green's writing, Jane Austen, Fyodor Dostoievski, Cassandra Clare (but I haven't read all her novels), etc.
My favorite genres are romance (who doesn't like a fluffy romance that have you wishing you where the protagonist of that story?), terror, horror, comedy, tragedy and drama.
My favorite heroine so far is Elizabeth Benett (Pride & Prejudice).
I love the 80's, I think that the music from that age was awesome.

Hello, I'm Michelle and my favorite books are Maximum Ride, Divergent, and False Memory. My favorite heroine is probably Tris because she doesn't rely on special powers or other people to get the job done. :)
Hi, I'm Lisa and I recently read and loved the "Twilight" series (though Bella was not my favorite heroine - I found her needy and disloyal to her girlfriends!). In the young adult genre I like supernatural, fantasy and Christian fiction. But, I also love legal thrillers, classics and mysteries. I published my first book, "Illuminating Gracie," in June of this year.
Hey I'm Sophie, I'm 15 and I live in Australia! My favourite genres are fantasy, dystopian/post-apocolyptic and steampunk, but I'll probably read any YA novel! My favourite book of all time is Divergent and I LOVE TRIS AND FOUR. I also loved the Mortal Instruments series and I CANT WAIT TO SEE THE CITY OF BONES MOVIE ON FRIDAY :O!!

Hi there! I am Jessica. I am sorry to admit that I've been a member of this group for a while and not really done very much in it! I love the Lux series, The Mortal Instruments, The Sweet Evil series and Vampire Academy. One of my new favourites is Whirl by Emma Raveling. It's actually really good. I love writing and reading. It's pretty much all I do aside from work and go to school. Thanks!
Hi Jessica! I like those series too (except for Whirl because I've never heard of it). I read Sweet Peril last week and I loved it. I hope to see you around the group more. :)
Thanks for the welcome! I was very excited to find this group. I am doing a 12 book giveaway right now for "Illuminating Gracie." I am especially interested in getting feedback about my heroine, Gracie. "I.G." is the first in a four part series, and I would like Gracie to grow and become stronger as the series progresses (I'm working on the second book now). Kirkus Review is featuring the book in its Sept. 1 Magazine. I would love to participate with this group - I just need some patience, because I'm not all that computer savvy and I'm learning!
My favorite young adult books are Twilight, Mortal Instruments, Vampire Diaries, Hunger Games - Just finished "Blur" and I'm now reading "Shiver."
Hi! My name is Hema. I just joined this group yesterday. I love just about any book with a tinge of romance, angst and what not. I am a potterhead and am totally crazy about anything to do with Harry Potter. Haha. Other series I love are the mortal instruments, divergent series and of course hunger games. When it comes to romance I love all Nicholas sparks books and have read almost all of them although they make me cry every single time. I love classics too and am obsessed with pride and prejudice and generally anything that is Jane Austen. I joined this group so that I can be introduced to many more new books and it always feels good to read a book where the women kick asses. Anyways, glad to be part of this group!
Hey! I'm a fairly recent convert to Young Adult Books - my previous favorite was legal thrillers (attorney). I fell in love with YA when reading the Twilight Series (though I thought Bella was weak). I would love some recommendations from any of you who liked Twilight. I've read Vampire Diaries, V. Academy and a few more - but, they just haven't clicked with me. I did like Hunger Games and Mortal Instruments.I loved the genre so much, that I wrote my own. Check out

Hey. I’m Canadian, I live in Toronto with my family. My favourite position for reading a book is head almost hanging off the couch and feet up in the air with legs against the back of the couch. Some of my favourite authors are William Gibson,Douglas Adams, Kurt Vonnegut Jr., and Philip K Dick. Old school, I know.
I’m also a Goodreads author. My book is YA sci-fi so I’ve been reading too much Scientific American and not enough new books lately. Hoping to change that with Allegiant, Horde, and Champion.

Hello fellow YA Heroines! My name is Deanna although that's kind of obvious since my name is going to pop up with this comment. I love reading about female heroines because every girl secretly wishes she could be the all star of her own book. My favorites are kick butt characters like Celaena Sardothien(Throne of Glass)and Rose Hathaway (Vampire Academy), but I also have an appreciation for characters with more subtle strength like Clary (Mortal Instruments), and Sydney (Bloodlines). I also love the Divergent series, Hunger Games Trilogy, and Harry Potter along with the ones I've already mentioned and so many others that listing them would take me all night. I'm look forward to having ]powerful discussions worthy of powerful female characters!
Hey Guys, Just wanted to say I'm Michelle I'm from Australia and I am super excited to be part of this group and discuss kickass female lead characters :) I think part of what makes a great female lead is not just her ability to kick but (if the book calls for it) but to also have the supporting personality so asto be able to connect and love the character. Because females are actually multi-faceted.
Does anyone get what I'm saying?

Yeah I totally get it. You can't truly like a character if you can't relate to some part of them. It's why we all love female heroines so much. We secretly want to be them!

YA heroines are very important to me! I love to write and to read them. I actually have quite a few unpopular opinions on certain popular heroines which I will keep to myself ;) BUT I will always appreciate a strong female character that grows and remains true to being a positive female inspiration!
My absolute no.1 inspiration in this regard is Alanna from the Song of the Lioness Quartet. She was my first introduction to YA back in the 90s and I kinda owe her everything.
So yeah, hi :)
