I'm a speedy reader but only if I get into the story from the beginning.

Book:

Rating: ★★★
Review: This is my first book by James Patterson and it was an ok read. The writing felt stilted and the characters didn't have that much dimension to them. The biggest plus is that it is a fast read. That said, I read the book only because I wanted to try Patterson. I'm not that impressed and I probably will not picking up another book of his anytime soon.

Trial by Fire - Setting + Title = 10 - Not sure if it has any love triangle; though one person had it shelved under Love-Triangles.
Chasing Fire - Setting + Title + Plot + Cover = 15
A Hidden Fire - Setting + Title + Plot + Cover = 15 (Thanks, ShoSho!)

The Girl of Fire and Thorns: setting, title, shelf, (plot might work) At least 11
Still looking.

(Link to lyrics) - Single body parts eg, face, lips, arm, leg. Fire. Rain. Board games or scoreboard. A fireman (needs to be in uniform... I have a weakness for firemenwomen, but that's another story.) NEITHER a black and white cover, NOR dark sky or on cover will count.
(Link to video) – Dancer; leotard; (dance shoes alone will NOT be allowed). Two men and one woman. Church or stained glass windows.
Plot: 3 points
A ménage à trois story (m/m/f only, NOT f/f/m). A story where one of the main characters is a dancer or choreographer. A story where the male lead is NOT what he seemed - he has a mistress, he's a spy, he's cheated on someone (NOT necessarily the heroine). A story where the female has just been cheated on. A song about someone who fights fires or sets fires (fireman, arson investigator, an arsonist is setting fires).
Title: 4 points
Anything that has the words SET FIRE, RAIN, or FIRE (alone) in it.
Name: 5 points
Author or Character with the surname ADKINS or BLUE or first name ADELE or LAURIE. Because of the amount of points involved with this link, differences in spelling will NOT be allowed.
Setting: 6 points
Any book written in 2011 or set around the THEATER or CHURCH.

Review: When this book first came out, it had so much buzz. I heard mostly positive reviews and I wanted to read close to when the third book was out.
The best thing about the book was the Interesting world-building. The author really planned her world well. We are dropped in the world with little explanation and the author manages not to info-dump for the most part. I do wish the world will be built more in the next book(s).
The not-so-best thing was the use of God's will. How the God's will is interpreted differently by different factions forms the crux of the story. A very interesting concept had it been executed better. As it is, it left me a bit disappointed - especially the ending.
The close to bad thing was the characterisation was weak. All the characters are a little bit two-dimensional. Elisa as an insecure lead character is familiar but I wish her "coming-of-age" was better. It seemed like such a device - marriage to an indifferent guy 1 and attracted to a handsome, silent guy 2. Both the interests could have developed better. As it is, they don't serve that much a purpose.
All in all, an enjoyable read. I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series.

Review: I enjoyed this book. I didn't love it. But I liked the idea of it.There were things that seemed a little off for me. I was kind of surprised at some of the events that happened. The author, based on this book alone, reminds of the kind where you look at the people and events and think "no one and no thing is safe", which isn't a bad thing.
