let me list my Top 10 reads,1. பிரபாகரன் - தமிழர் எழுச்சியின் வடிவம்
2. Ptolemy's Gate
3. The Bourne Identity
4. The Hobbit
5. The Fellowship of the Ring
6. தொடரும் தவிப்பு
7. The Bookseller of Kabul
8. World Without End
9. The Road to Wigan Pier
10. கீதையின் மறுபக்கம்
The best books I have read in 2012 are:1) Life and Fate by Vasilij Grossmann
2) Solo by Rana Dasgupta
3) Beside the Sea by Véronique Olmi
4) Quiet Flows the Don by Mikhail Sholokhov
5) The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
6) a collection of short stories by Anton Chekhov
The first three books impressed me because I didn't know anything about the authors so they were a good surprise (but also good books).
I haven't 10 books! All the others I have read were average reads but nothing that stunned me. If I will remind other good books I will add them!

sorry, Anbu, 5 more than what you bargained for. But in retrospective, when I went through my list of books read in 2012, I feel some of the 4 star ones were actually much better than the five star ones I have put down here. Maybe our individual mood variations have much to do while rating books.

I had some more popualr books like The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle,The Thirteenth Tale ,Water for Elephants etc. for the 10th position. Even though Tears of the Giraffe is quite non-flashy compared to them,I loved it's heart-warming simplicity.
