Book: The Fire Wars
Finished: 02/16
Rating:★★.5
Review: An ok book. Typical teenage love triangle. Typical plot of girl with a great destiny to save the world or be the one to destroy it. Not much new or original. I liked the myths part of the book but it was a smaller part of the book then I originally thought. The myths and legends will probably be expanded on in the second book (I hope). The fact that it was short and quick to read along with a few interesting elements will probably be the reason I continue the series. That and I'm just compulsive about finishing series sometimes.

We actually had 60 degree days this weekend. The problem being I should not have done 2- 8 hour shifts. While I was fine in the day as soon as the sun sets the temp plummets into the low 40s.
Can't wait for next weekend the temps are only supposed to get to the 40s. And we have 2 more 8 hour days! Good news is my daughter has already reached her 1st goal.
I have about 50 pages left, kids are still asleep coffe is brewing so hopefully I'll be uninterupted and be done in a few.

Review: This was a pretty good different twist on Witches and Vampires. Girl moves to new town. Girl meets skeezy guy, who turns out to be her new partner. Girl meets hot guy. Girl finds out she's a witch. Girl finds out hot Guy is a vampire. Skeezy partner turns out to be ok guy and a good friend. Witch Girl and Hot Vampire Guy get naked alot. Hot Vampire Boyfriend amazingly accepts friend ship with not so skeezy ok guy frind of Girl. Then the three of them go out and stop a serial killer. A pretty good story overall.
***my one complaint that has nothing to do with the story at all or hinders enjoyment at all except for someone as OCD as myself. There is one part where the heroine is watching the sun rise over the mountains in Denver. Well I live in the Denver area, and as the mountains border the west side of the city, and that oh so predictible sun always comes up in the east ...It is impossible from Denver to watch the sun come up over the mountains. There are places an hour or two away that it could happen, but not in the city.

Point wise we are in second place, but Friday's song being the last one could end up being anyones game.
Pink hasn't submitted points yet this week but they will be at 498 with the 4 that have read books. So unless that last person only reads a 5 pt book they will over take us.
We have 503 points.
Yellow is right behind us with 494.

Posting early! This is the last week and the song will be chosen from among the songs that weren't picked in previous weeks.
Some good and some bad in there but 27 options, I'm not looking for a book until we have a song.

Book: Everything and the Moon by Julia Quinn
Finished: February 23rd
Rating: ★★★
Review: As a huge fan of Quinn's Bridgertons series, it always amazes me that the same writer is responsible for her ridiculously plotted early works.
Everything and the Moon has potential as a story of lovers reunited after a huge misunderstanding. Let me preface the rest of this review by saying that this theme is one I detest with a vengeance. That said, it is actually well-written here and the first half of the book is engaging, particularly due to Robert and Victoria's witty sniping and bickering (Quinn is very skilled at this type of dialogue).
Unfortunately, the second half of the book is drawn out and tedious. The huge misunderstanding is quickly resolved and the rest of the story revolves around Robert's obsessive determination to force Victoria into marriage (supposedly for her own good) and her playing hard to get - running hot one minute and cold the next. At this point, I lost interest in the characters and their romance despite their early chemistry.
All in all, the book is well-written (despite the repetitions of some scenes that act more as filler), the dialogue is snappy and there are several endearing moments that make it all worthwhile.

Review:
Overall it was a good story and I enjoyed the banter between Victoria and Robert.
However, I am glad the author put the letter to the reader in the front of the story describing how she does not belive in love at first sight, but went with it for the sake of writing a story. Robert was a bit too silly in love for me to really take him seriously.
The story was really great up until about half way. I realised the miscommunication was out and everyone understood what had happened and the couple was back together... then I realised I was only at 53%. There were some stubornness issues to be worked out still. (view spoiler)

Review: Parts of this were cute and others were infuriating. I spent the majority of the time wanting to slap both Robert and Victoria silly. Or knock their heads together and just leave them passed out and crumpled on the floor. I get being stubborn - according to my husband, I'm the most stubborn person he knows - but there's a limit to how much stubbornness I can take in a book. (view spoiler)
I just recently discovered Julia Quinn with The Duke and I, and I loved it. I wanted this to be a similar experience, but it was not. It wasn't a terrible read, but it's not one that I care to repeat anytime soon. I'm not even interested in the next one (Ellie's book, I'm assuming) and that rarely happens.

Book: When in Paris...
Finished: 02/23
Rating:★
Review: Warning! Warning! This is More a Rant Then a Review. Also Spoilers Galore. I did not like this book. I started reading and kept going since I knew if I put it down I would not want to pick it up again. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for a 'new adult' romance which was frigid at best and which felt more like a angsty teen romance with sex.
I felt like all the characters were inconsistent. Saying one thing but doing another. Or being portrayed as someone but behaving as someone else. Examples- Olivia confronts Zach about him having preconceived notions about her but almost immediately she jumps to conclusions about him. Zach is a gentleman with a soft heart yet he acts like a cad to Olivia at first and his thoughts are more dog then gentlemen. The cast of friends are no better and all their love situations are similar (he loves her, she loves him, but they both vehemently deny any feelings). The constant tits, ass, and abs talk pissed me off too.
Whatever.
Olivia and Zach finally hook up and do it every day UNTIL Zach says he doesn't want a girlfriend which happened to be what Olivia already thought she was. Boo Hoo. Now she is heartbroken and he doesn't get why she won't be his 'friends with benefits'. Then when he tries to talk to her again she drops the 'I gave my virginity to you' bomb (he didn't notice at the time). Weeks pass with both of them being angsty teens. He finally asks her out, she says yes.
The other two main obstacles in their way of HEA. The scandal that involves Olivia's mom and Zach's uncle, which was the real reason he ignored his feelings for her from the beginning. A messed up ex-girlfriend who is obsessed with Zach and often hurts herself if he ignores her. Both these stories influenced a lot of their actions and the fights they had. You would think it would be 'shit hitting the fan' material when the truth comes out.... But they both fizzle out and are anticlimactic.
Olivia gets a call that her parents are divorcing. Her mom tells her the truth. She is upset with her mom. Zach tells her he already knew and that's why he judged her. She reacts with nothing, apparently she is understanding about this with him. End of that story, moving on. Now fast forward and Olivia is at the opening night of her play when she gets a call from Zach. Zach tells her something happened and he can't make it to her play because of his ex. She gets mad and hangs up. The show goes on. She finds the emotional and mental wreck that is Zach's ex waiting for her at her dorm. Ex rambles for a bit then passes out (obviously she has done something to herself). Olivia gets her to the hospital. Zach and the ex's parents show up. Everything gets sorted. The End.
I feel better that it's all off my chest now haha.
Total Points: 10
Plot: 3 High school crush meeting again in college.
Setting: 6 Class trip to Paris, and return trip at the end.
Bonus Word: 1 Shake: (Found it 46 Times! They do a lot of head and hand shaking in this book): "I give my head a determined shake and vow to ignore him; simply not think about him." Chapter 1 page 4.
