Ooo I want to read your list Lisa! I loved The Book Thief, Zorro and Stardust. Hope you enjoy them too!
Great list, some interesting sounding books. When you get to "G", if you read The Greatcoat I want to know what you think, as it's been on my tbr a few months.
jaxnsmom wrote: "Great list, some interesting sounding books. When you get to "G", if you read The Greatcoat I want to know what you think, as it's been on my tbr a few months."I think I will be reading The Greatcoat so I will definitely let you know if I like it or not.
I have finished Anna Dressed in Blood. I really liked it and gave it a 4 star rating :)Next I will be reading Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast which is a change to my original list. Looking forward to it, it sounds like it will be a fun read.
Just finished my B selection which was Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast. I gave it a 3 star rating (although my actual rating would probably be 3.5) because I enjoyed it enough to finish it but I had a couple of issues with it too. It is not the worst book I have ever read but it is not the best either.
Tonight I will be starting my choice of read for the letter C which is Cinder. Hopefully it will be an enjoyable book to read.
I'll be looking forward to hearing what you think of Cinder, Lisa.I loved Anna Dressed in Blood - what did you think of Anna?

I'm currently listening to Anna Dressed in Blood, so am eagerly awaiting your comments, too. :)
Kat and Janice, I really liked Anna Dressed in Blood and I gave it a 4 star rating. I thought it was well-written, very atmospheric and really rather creepy. I thought the two leads, Cas and Anna, were interesting characters (especially Anna who I found scary yet sympathetic) and I liked how the book was written from Cas' POV. I did have a few minor quibbles with it but on the whole it was a good read and I will probably read the next book in the series. I hope you are enjoying it so far Janice?Cinder is quite good so far. The twist on the Cinderella fairytale is an interesting one and I like the futuristic setting. The only downside so far is that I am finding it a bit 'obvious' in parts.

There were lots of things I enjoyed about Anna, but there were some problems for me. I gave it 3 stars, maybe 3.5 stars would be more accurate. I'd rather she'd stuck to just a ghost story without bringing in witchcraft and voodoo. For me, the setting of Thunder Bay, Ontario just doesn't jive with voodoo.

It didn't spoil my enjoyment of the book that much hence my 4 star rating but had it remained a ghost story without those elements I would probably have given it a 5 star rating.
April, I reckon you will love Anna and Cinder! My TBR never gets shorter, as soon as I finish one book I seem to add another 2 or 3 to it!
That's my C selection done and dusted.Cinder was a really good book and I gave it a 4 star rating. I loved the futuristic setting and how the story of Cinderella was weaved in around it. I also thought that the heroine was a great character.
However, it lost a star because I found Prince Kai to be rather irritating at times and I found I couldn't take him seriously as a character at all. I also spotted the plot twists coming a mile off which was a bit of a shame as it would have been nice to have had some surprises. All in all though it was a fun book to read and I expect I will pick up the rest of the series.
Are you going to read the sequel to Cinder? Scarlet? What are you planning on reading for your D book?
Janice wrote: "Are you going to read the sequel to Cinder? Scarlet? What are you planning on reading for your D book?"
Yes, I will read Scarlet at some point as I am curious as to where the story will go next.
As for my D book, I am planning on reading Dead Until Dark. I was going to read Dominion but I fancied some vampire action hence the change of mind.
Janice wrote: "And it will be perfect for the Toppler, too."I hadn't actually thought of that but yes it would! Thanks for pointing that out! I only ordered it yesterday so it may not actually arrive in time for me to use it in the toppler but if it does I will certainly use it for both challenges :)
Rusalka wrote: "I'm planning on reading it for the Toppler too. IF you do, lets chat about it!!"We certainly will!
I am just starting my D book which is the first book in the Sookie Stackhouse series
. I do like a good vampire story so am looking forward to reading this. I am also reading this for the 'Love At First Bite' task in the Toppler too.
I have just finished Dead Until Dark. I liked it a lot and gave it a 4 star rating. I did have a couple of small issues with it but on the whole it was an enjoyable read. I will read the rest of the series but not straight away as there are other books that I want to read first.I am planning to read Eat, Pray, Love for my E read which I have heard some mixed things about so hopefully I will be one of those who does enjoy it.
I have just made a start on my letter E read Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia.
That's my E read all finished. I did not enjoy Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia very much at all. I found it to be slow in terms of pacing, the tone felt a bit self-satisfied to me and altogether I found it a bit of a struggle. The 'Eat' section in Italy was ok and that is why I ended up giving it a 2 star rating. Oh well, you can't win them all!
The Eat section was the best in my opinion as well. Indonesia was my least favorite. I enjoyed her imagery most of all.
I have just completed my 'F' read which was The Frightened Man. I gave it 3 stars because it was ok but I was expecting more from it. It started off really well but then it seemed to lose momentum and I felt that it dragged in places. On the positive side, the lead character Denton was fairly likeable and the descriptions of Victorian London were realistic and gritty. All-in-all, not a bad read but not a great one either.
My G read, The Greatcoat, has just been completed. I gave it 4 stars because I thought it was well-written, atmospheric, it contains a few plot twists and it has a rather dashing young man in uniform on the front cover! ;-). However I had gone into it thinking that it would be really chilling and creepy because it is described on the front cover as being similar to 'The Woman in Black' but in reality it was not scary or creepy at all which was a bit disappointing. I did still enjoy it and I would recommend reading it, particularly if you like your ghost stories to be gentle, but sadly the lack of scares meant that it lost a star from me.
I totally agree with your take on The Greatcoat. It felt like there should have been a bit more of an edge to it.
I am just making a start on my H read which is This House is Haunted by John Boyne. This has only just been released and it sounds pretty interesting so am looking forward to seeing what it is like.
I have finished my 'H' read, This House is Haunted. This was a very good read and I gave it a 4 star rating. My review is below.http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Another good review!!! and also into my tbr list
Completed The Knife of Never Letting Go
for my 'K' read. This was one of those strange books where it kept me wanting to turn the page but when I reached the end, I felt quite unsatisfied and am not really sure if I liked it or not. I gave it 3 stars.
Finished my 'L' read, Life of Pi. I thought it was a really good read and I gave it 4 stars. I thought it was really well-written, I found it quite moving at times and it made me think. I am looking forward to finally watching the film now. Here is my review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
