I agree about Confederacy of Dunces. I loved it but know many who hated it. It is actually one of the few I reread from time to time.

"I find that reading is such a personal choice in what appeals to us or not. There are so many books that I love and find others don't, and there are times I am just amazed that people love a book that I thought stunk.
Without thinking about it too hard, my clunkers of 2012 would have to include:

I had high hopes for all of them, but I didn't care for any of them. I know others who loved them, but as Lynn said, reading is a very personal choice!
What didn't you like about
, Barb? I had that one on my TBR, but then it didn't seem as if people enjoyed it much. Plus, I frequently saw multiple copies of it available at the library each week, which is another indicator of a book not being a "to die for" type of read.
I loved A Confederacy of Dunces because of the narrator on the audio version, I might not have liked it just reading the book, but he made all the weird characters likable and fascinating. My 3 least liked were Beautiful Ruins, A Visit from the Goon Squad, and The Girl Who Fell from the Sky.
I was really looking forward to reading The Lifeboat, and was extremely disappointed with it. Continuing with water-themed books, my book club read Learning to Swim, which I found painful to finish. I made it through it, but it was a chore!
The Little Giant of Aberdeen Countyalso didn't live up to my expectations.
Luckily, I have many more on my "books I loved this year" list!
I am disappointed to hear that you didn't like Learning to Swim. I am very interested in reading that one.
