The Maze Runner
question
Who are the characters named after in this book?

In The Maze Runner, Thomas tells us why the characters are named what they are named. But he only gave three examples... Newt-Issac Newton, Alby-Albert Einstein, and Thomas-Edison. Do you have any hunches on the others? Oh, and if you've read the other books, those namesakes would be appreciated. My thoughts were
Newt-Issac Newton
Alby-Einstein-Thomas-Edison
Gally-Galileo
Teresa-Mother Teresa
Aris-Aristotle
Frypan AKA Siggy-I know this should be obvious...
Harriet-Tubman
Newt-Issac Newton
Alby-Einstein-Thomas-Edison
Gally-Galileo
Teresa-Mother Teresa
Aris-Aristotle
Frypan AKA Siggy-I know this should be obvious...
Harriet-Tubman

Hi guys, I don't want to sound petty or whiny. But please be careful about what spoilers you guys reveal in these discussions. Remember, this discussion is for just the first book. Please mark your spoilers, so that those of us that have not finished the series don't have things spoiled for us.
I clicked on this link to see if anyone figured out Minho's name, and accidentally found out what happens to Jack. In another thread, someone mentioned another (quite major) character dying, which did not happen in the first book. Again, I don't mean to stir up any anger, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who would appreciate the spoilers be edited.
Thank you.

Joseph Fry was the scientist who created the candy bar. Would make sense as Frypan is a cook.
These are smaller characters, but I figure people kind of agree on the bigger characters and I have no life so I paused the movie and wrote down the names of all of the characters on the wall. Plus it's kind of like a puzzle and I love puzzles.
Henry- Henry Ford
Lee- Leonardo Davinci
Doug- Frederick Douglas
Jeff- Thomas Jefferson
Stephen- Stephen Hawking, (his name is crossed out on the wall in the movie along with George's name)
Dmitri- Dmitri Mendeleev
George- George Washington
Rob- Robert Boyle or Robert Hooke

Alby was named after Albus Dumbuldore, the greatest wizard of all time :)
Thomas- Thomas Edison
Newt- Isaac Newton
Gally- Galileo Galilei
Teresa- Mother Teresa (her last name is Agnes; St. Agnes anyone?)
Chuck- Charles Darwin
Alby- Albert Einstein
Frypan (Siggy)- Sigmund Freud
Ben- Ben Franklin
Winston- Winston Churchill
Minho- I remember reading somewhere it was one of his sisters husband/fiancee? Though he said that its someone who could be famous in the future
Zart- Mozart
Aris- Aristotle
I also read that a majority of the girls in the books are named after religious figures, with the exception of Harriet (H. Tubman) and Sonya (variation of Sonia Sotomayor?) who happen to be very good friends, possibly because of their different names.

I hate the fact that the only female within the novel is the only one not granted a scientific name wether she's named after mother Teresa or nobody, it felt incredibly sexist that all the men were granted incredibley intelligent examples to follow, great scientists and the female wasn't. I thought it was a total offence to the gender and all female scientists but then I seen a suggestion that Teresa was named after Tesla and I liked that
in the scorch trials, it says Teresa wasn't named after anybody.

I was waiting for Dashner to pop up a character named James. Just a little pat on his own back, but no! Self control all the way.
Could be where the name Minho came from. :D

Oh my. I've only read the first book and now I figured out a bunch of characters names that I didn't know!!! Oh my gosh!!!! I'm spoiled... :(
Just putting it out there, im half way through the movie right now and noticed the name pattern. Im gonna insist that Minho is from the word Minotaur, a mythical beast who was banished to a maze.
Wait, wasn't there a guy named jack? or am i confusing med-jacks?
Thomas = Thomas Edison
Alby = Albert Einstein
Gally = Galileo Galilei
Newt = Isaac Newton
Chuck = Charles Darwin
Frypan (Siggy) = Sigmund Freud
Teresa = Mother Teresa
Zart = Mozart
Ben = Benjamin Franklin
Winston = Winston Churchill
Minho = I think Minho was named after King Minos, who in Greek mythology, created a maze for the young adults of Greece to be sacrificed to the Minotaur in. This is my opinion but it seems like the most rational answer.

You people need to read The Fever Code.
A lot is revealed about Frypan :p
A lot is revealed about Frypan :p
Minho, as said by the author, does not have a person that he is named after.... yet. The author states that since the books and movies are based in the future, he purposely made it so Minho's scientist name has not been created yet
Minho is not named after anyone James Dashner said he wasn't named after anyone because the book was supposed to be made in the future so he said it isn't obvious on how he is
This is the list I have come up with. A couple of them are my guesses so take it from there.

Interestingly enough, I just read that it's pronounced "meen-oh"
Which makes since because it is a Korean name I believe.

James Dashner actually said in an interview that some of the characters were named after people who will be famous in the future and Minho is one of them.

Lets not forget Winston! I was thinking Winston Churchill, but other websites say Robert Winston.
I was thinking that Zart was actually named for Jean-Paul Sartre, but Mozart works too, I suppose.
I was thinking that Minho might be Ho Chi Minh, That is all I can think of?

If the creators gave them these names... what are their real names?
If you've seen the movie, the name "Alfred" is highlighted pretty prominently. After some geeking out with my oldest, we figured it's for Alfred Nobel. Just thought I'd add that to the list.
Yeah, everyone's like "Who the heck re you named after Minho?!!!"
