Jennifer Dills (sportula) | 4 comments I am looking for a book for one of my library patrons. Based on the details I was given, it is a book about: A woman (reporter, possibly) is a survivor of a plane crash. The community that takes her in is sort of an old timey community, and one of the men gets the idea to use the wheel of her plane as an aid in farming or something. This sets off a change within the community as they begin to see that things can be done in different, better ways. It was written in a journal-style, with the voice of a female character. The tone was not really moralistic, took more of a psychological stance. Fiction. The community was not Amish, but that was the insinuation - that it was a society distanced from modern life and conveniences - (similar to choices of the Amish or Quaker communities) in the book perhaps by preference, but the reason for the antiquated way of life was not explained in the story. At book's end, I believe the woman begins a trek over the mountains, away from the now-changed community.

The main character - woman from the crash - observes a change in the villagers after a farmer retrieves wheel/or wheels from the plane, then builds a cart - which makes other villagers - formerly friendly and helpful with each other - become slowly envious and greedy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jennifer, given that you were looking for a patron, are you still interested in pursuing this?

Jennifer Dills (sportula) | 4 comments Absolutely. Even though it has been a while, I still wonder what that book is.

Jennifer--if you bump this up every month or two, you'll have a better chance of getting it found.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Jennifer, here's a free bump for you... I'm sort of interested, too. ;)

Jennifer Dills (sportula) | 4 comments The search is over for this book! The patron remembered enough of the title to find it when she searched Google. It is The Testament of Yves Gundron, by Emily Barton. Thank you to all who helped!
