Jessica | 1 comments Looking for a children's book that I read sometime between 1976-1980. It's about a a rabbit who is very messy. He has green mittens and loses one on the stairs. Every year he looks forward to going to the circus and hopes to get the rose that's handed out. He doesn't get to go this year when his family goes - not sure if it is because he is in trouble or can't find his mittens etc to go. The book ends the following year with a much neater rabbit going to the circus and getting the rose.

Description:

"Once there was a little rabbit who lived in a wonderful old house with his mother and father and sisters and brothers. He was a very handsome little rabbit, with great big eyes and a fluffy tail. But he had one fault that grew worse every day. He was the messiest rabbit ever.

Well, when you are messy, it is impossible to find anything, so while the little rabbit's brothers and sisters go to puppet shows and birthday parties, ride on fire-engines and see the circus, one little rabbit is always left behind--looking for his shoes or his jacket or his hat.

It takes a lot of missing-out before the little rabbit--with some help from a friend--finally cleans up his room and learns there's a lot more time for fun when you keep things where they belong."

Must be the right book. Kirkus writes:

"How ""our little rabbit' misses, in turn, a movie, a football game, a puppet show, a fire engine ride, a birthday party, and the circus--all because his room is so messy that he can never find his shoes, money, or whatever, in time to go off with his brothers and sisters. At last a friendly deer pops in and helps the left-behind rabbit clean up his room, and next time the circus come to town he is first in line. Nivola's syrupy old-fashioned style is as dead as her monotonous story, and her daughter's illustrations, in line and pastel blobs, are just a little more stylishly cute."

Moving to Solved.
