Introduction thread - always need one of these

After you mentioned it on your Dresden Files review, I actually tried listening to an audio book while I walk, and it seems quite difficult to concetrate. Especially when there's noise around me. I have to pause, restart, listen again and look around me like a grumpy old grandma :p
It does take a bit to get used to. I speed all my audio up, which makes it much faster, which actually requires more concentration :)

I hear that they have at least done the first two books. I like my narrator to create different accents and pitches for te characters, can you imagine this in Malazan?

You know they are working on creating stands for musicians, which is basically an ipad on a stand with a pedal to move a page.
Shouldn't that hard to reapply for book reading with twins?

Lmao.
A tall slightly unstable stand with an iPad perched on it with two 2 year olds running around. That's your future :)

Some people really like audio and some just can listen to it. Probably me making up words in the wrong context. I am good at that.

What's a partitioner?"
An attendee at the local church. But is usually spelled "petitioner." ;)

someone who divides their love between written and audio, like the division between book and ebook.
Eek, I'll just shut up now.

I am a Mazalan addict. I was introduced to the Mazalan series in book #4 (House of Chains) when we exchanged books with my friend. I was reading the culture novels (i still do) so my friend asked if we could exchange series. I just finished reading The Algebraist at the time and he just finished House of Chains.
Let's say the rest is history! Once I started reading House of Chains...I was hooked. It was like reading Dune for the first time, for me. I am forever grateful for that exchange... that's what friends are for :)The Malazan series has everything I want in a book series, like it was written just for me :)
Currently reading, The Crippled God and other stuff.

Hi Shaad,
Welcome to the group. You'll find group reading at least the first few books in a group read very beneficial. The story is so large, that at one point two books 3 and 4 if I remember, happen at the same time. It takes 2000 pages to describe what is going on.
But fear not, you are in good company.

Hopefully thats true! I guess then lots of patience is required.

Been meaning to read the series again and look forward to starting it again with you guys.
Finished the main series early this year, and have read all the side books that have been released in the US so far.

I think this is one of the most amazing things that you hear about from so many readers who finish the series. It is something that the new readers should take notice of. A lot of people hear have only just finished the series this year and it is a huge series, yet signing on to start it all again. Not 'i'd like to read that again in a couple of years'. I remember writing when i was halfway through book five or six that I couldn't wait to start it all again as I became so much more familiar with the world.
Buckle up! Its going to be a hell of a ride!

LOL Traci, I did start GotM and read the first few chapters. It absolutely blew me away reading those few chapters. I knew I wasn't ready to read again so soon. But reading about a young merchants son called Ganoes chatting with WhiskyJack and Surly giving orders....... Feners hairy balls its exciting.

That first scene is especially poignant to me after finishing The Crippled God.

I actually started to read the Malazan way back before it first came out ;)
I read Gardens of the Moons as an advanced bookstore copy( which you can't argue would make me the number 1 fan, sorry Shelley) back in the 90s while I was still living in France. It was the only review I ever made for the scifi fan group I was a member of at the time.
Since then I moved to the US so I had to wait a few years for the US edition to catch up but it finally did and I have read every book in the serie as well as the first 4 Eremont books.
I've been itching to reread some of the early books ( especially Deadhouse Gates ( you can never get too much of the Chain of Dogs) and Memory of Ice).

Welcome Travis and Aildiin, we are going to have quite the group here, between fans 'for over 20 years' to 'I heard heaps about this and thought I'd give it a go'.
I am excited, ths group started out a couple months back when a few friends agreed we'd like to read Malazan again as a group. Here we are less than a week from commitment and a shite load more of The Fallen than expected.

I have been reading this for about 2 years and have fallen, no pun intended, for this series completely. I am a huge fan of Glen Cook's The Black Company series and never thought I would find a series with that gritty realism plus the fantasy setting that Cook had created. Then I picked up Gardens of the Moon 2 years ago and was floored by the scope and imagination that Erikson had put on the page. So I am excited to see this group and to see the discussions within...also I really love the map!!

I've never read the series before, but have been planning to tackle it this year for a while now (and then onto WoT :S). So I will be starting fresh with Gardens of the Moon today, Jan 1st, which has been on my shelf for over a year.
I also write a blog with responses to my fantasy reads - www.fixedonfantasy.com.
Cheers,
Josh.

i have only reread less than 5 books in my life (I'm 56) because life is short and there are too many books. I own all of them because I knew one day I wanted to reread but who knew when. This reread was brought up in the bridgeburner group - was I the one who brought it up? Even so I wasn't sure I would actually reread but a few days ago I did start Gardens and I'm just as enthralled' it's also nice that this time I don't have to wait for the last few books to be released. Which I didn't want to wait for the 6 month American delay so ordered from England!
Btw Rob it shouldn't be called the terrible twos. Whoever said that first clearly hadn't yet endured the tyrannical threes ha. ALSo the Hobb series is one of my favorites and maybe I shouldn't say this but I would finish that first. I should note tho that I love marathon reads of series when possible ie all the books are done. You get to be inside that world.
As foe WoT jeez I can't believe the end is near! I've been with that since the 2nd was released. Ditto for Martin but I may be dead before he finishes.
Ok I'll shut up now!

I discovered this group today via the Only the Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy blog.
I have read this series till The Bonehunters and I loved every book so far. I usually read only two of the books in this series a year because they are complex and English is not my first language but I need to reread the first books (at least) and I would love to do it in a group read.
Hi Roberta.
Glad you found you found us. We started today and plan to do four chapters a week so that people can read other books at the same time and not be swamped by the series.
There are discussion threads for each chapter, grab your copy of GotM and join us :)

That's very cool. Thanks Bryce!
PS; are you guys seriously going to always blame Gail? you haven't read all the moderator names then. :p
(i wasn't going to say it, but then i figured i had to come up for Gail's innocence)
LOL gosh you learnt quick. although I have to say, by admitting your guilt you have undone your own name ;)
I'd apologise to Gail, but, well she'll probably change my name again tomorrow to get me back.
