Georgia | 2 comments Hi, my name is Georgia, 40 years old and I live in Athens,Greece. I have been a huge fan of Stephen King ever since I read The Stand. I'm trying to read all his works and I'm currently reading 11/22/63. I love reading especially horror and sci fi. I recently found Goodreads and love it

Danny Tyran (danny_) | 16 comments I think I've not introduced myself still. Men born in 1975. French Canadian (sorry for my English mistakes). I love science fiction, horror, thrillers,...

I am reading On Writing by Stephen King On Writing. It's very interesting so far.

Rhys Purtill | 1 comments Hey there, my name is Rhys and I recently joined goodreads. I only started to read novels by king this summer, reading both carrie and the shining. I have started to read doctor sleep but got distracted and as of yesterday (Christmas Day) I have started to read IT. I am only 30 pages in and I am loving it!

Liz Chiodo (lizchiodo) Hi all! My name's Liz. I'm a newly engaged Army fiancee and when I'm without my man, books are my go-to past time. I've always been a fan of horror and spooky stuff (I even work at a haunted house!) and Stephen King himself. I really credit my love of reading to Under the Dome, which kicked off my addiction in 2009. :D

Danny (DannyPEgan) | 14 comments Hey guys! On January 1st 2012 I set myself up for an epic failure, my new year's resolution was to read my way through Mr. King's entire canon. I assumed it would be easy to accomplish, I work mostly overnight, and figured it would help me pass the time. I was sorely mistaken. Although it does help me pass the time, I guess I thought of myself as a faster reader then I actually am. I would estimate, in almost two years, i have read 35-40% of his work, taking roughly ten "breaks"to read some other books. But as the new year approaches, I feel reinvigorated, to at least finish up by 2015! Im currently about a hundred pages intoWizard and Glass

message 357: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 2 comments Hi everyone! My name is Vanessa and I am a proud constant reader. I've always had a thing for horror and mystery books. Growing up I read every single R.L Stine series. So it's no wonder that now I am a huge SK fan. He is by far my top favorite author. I'll never forget how I felt when I picked up my first King book by recommendation of a friend; The Gunslinger. I immediately became hooked...and thus began my amazing journey. I started off with the Dark Tower books and was so in love with King's writing that I decided I want to read every single work he has ever written. I've read about 20 of his novels and a few of his short story collections so far.

I've been following this group for a while now but the timing has always been off when it comes to joining in the monthly readings. So, I am actually really excited that I got the email letting me know that January's book is Black House, because I happen to be currently reading it. I am only on chapter 4 and I'm not the fastest reader out there, so I think I should be good for keeping up with this one now.

Cheers to all, and happy reading!

message 360: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (goodreadscombeebeezee) I've been "off the grid" for awhile, so to speak. Sad to hear that the original thread has been deleted but it gives me a chance to start over...
Hi, My name is Barbara and I am from Ohio. I have been enjoying SK for as long as I can remember. I think I've read almost all his full length books. I'm not a super big fan of short stories, in general, so I've missed some of those. Just finished Dr. Death. It was another good one, in spite of being a sequel. Looking forward to BLACK HOUSE discussions.

What did you think of the Talisman? One of my faves. You are going to enjoy Wizard and Glass, too. Have you read any of the other books in the Dark Tower series.

message 364: by Clint (new)

Clint Hello Everyone,

I have been a King fan since I read Pet Sematary during the free read portion of my 7th grade literature class. I am now a teacher myself. I may have become an even bigger fan of his short stories and novellas.

message 365: by Stacie (new)

Stacie C (thenextbook) Hey Jason, I would definitely recommend pet Semetary, The Stand and Christine which are some of his amazing older novels. The sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep, was really good as was 11/22/63. I spent a good part of this year reading all of his novels, in order, if you are curious about any of the novels let me know. Hope you enjoy! Try some of his Bachman novels too!

anush (elle) (anushg) | 2 comments Hi, my name is Anush, I'm 18 and I remember my first S. King's book: Kaleidoscope...I was 13 and I got lost in the many titles of my school library, and there it was, a big black hard cover with golden letters. Since then I'm obsess with his books. So far, my favourite is Duma Key. Just the details are everything in his creations

message 369: by Martyn (new)

Martyn Handley | 1 comments Hello everyone, I'm Martyn from Chesterfield in the UK. I just joined Goodreads yesterday. I've been a Stephen King fan since I was about 11. My favourite King books have to be The Stand, Salem's Lot, It and the Shining. I also love the Dark Tower series and think its brilliant how he has weaved them into a lot of his other stories (and vice versa). I've just finished Doctor Sleep and thought it was great (though not as good as the Shining).

message 370: by Malina (new)

Malina | 304 comments Welcome Martyn, Clint and Anush!

message 371: by G.A. (new)

G.A. Miller | 2 comments Greetings to all - I'm Bob from RI, and have just recently joined Goodreads, although I've been an avid reader for as long as I can remember.

I believe I first became a "Constant Reader" sometime in 1976...I was scanning the titles of the paperbacks on sale at the news stand in the building in Manhattan where I worked, and the one that caught my eye had an all black cover, with one small spot of color on it. That turned out to be the drop of blood on the embossed child's face on the cover of Salem's Lot.

I became hooked immediately, and have looked forward to every new book by SK ever since. I don't know if it's because it was my first, or because of my enjoyment of the Hammer films of the late '50's through the '70's with Christopher Lee as Dracula, but to this day, Salem's Lot remains my all time favorite of SK's works.

With Doctor Sleep having been so successful (and so good), I hope he decides one day to wonder what ever became of that town named after a farmer's hog after that terrible fire so long ago....

Looking forward to continuing the journey with like minded travelers along for the pleasurable ride!

Michi (michidoane) | 4 comments Hiya, I'm Michi. Love all kinds of books, but King has always been my all time fav. Reading has always been my little getaway and lets face it, we all need those sometimes! : )

message 373: by Cindy (new)

Cindy | 4 comments Hi y'all, I'm Cindy. I put the Goodreads app on my phones year ago but only just realized how much there is on the website!
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who started reading King at a young age, I picked up The Stand in the fifth grade and have been hooked ever since. I've lost track of some of the electronic only releases in the past few years but I'm sure this group will help me catch up.
I just ran into the other room to tell my husband about this group and he said "I'm not sure what worries me more... that you joined the group, or that you're so excited about it!" :)

message 374: by Tonya (new)

Tonya (hobbittonya) | 2 comments Hi, I'm Tonya. I'm a new fan of Stephen King's. The first book I read by him was "Under the Dome." At first, I was very disturbed by the descriptions and I was determined that that was the first and last SK book I would ever read. But by the time I got half way through I was hooked! I went on to read "11/22/63" ,which is just a beautiful work of art in itself, then his "Richard Bachman" books. I own almost every book he has published now, but I still have a lot of reading to do!

message 375: by Kim (new)

Kim Lobdell | 1 comments Hi, I'm Kim...new member as of today. I love to read and read from all genres. But Stephen King is my first book love. I have them all. The Dark Tower series is my favorite. I love finding Dark Tower references in his other stories. I am happy that his son, Joe Hill is as amazing as his dad. Horns and NOS4A2 were fantastic.

message 378: by Autumn (new)

Autumn | 1 comments Hi all. I'm Autumn and I've been a King fan since I was around 7. I've always loved reading, so my Mom encouraged me and allowed me to read almost everything. The first King novel I read (I think) was IT... needless to say, I was terrified to take a shower for a few months!

My favorites are the books in the Dark Tower series, but The Stand is a close second. I look forward to participating in group reads in the coming year!

message 379: by Mary (new)

Mary Lawrence (mary22279) My name is Mary and I have been reading Stephen Kind books since I was about 5 or 6. I remember having my teacher always call my mom and ask them if I was allowed to read those kind of books lol. He is my favorite author and always will be.

So far, my fav King's books are Pet Sematary, It, Dreamcatcher and the Skeleton Crew stories.

I'm so happy I found you people, and I hope I can join you in a reading discussion very soon.

P.S. English is my second language so I apologize for any mispelling n.n

message 386: by Stacey (new)

Stacey Sioui-tapp | 1 comments Hi, I'm Stacey. I was introduced to Stephen King back in the early 80's when I was about 11 or 12 years old. We would spend summers at our country house and while looking for something to read in the bookshelf, I was drawn to a weird looking paper back with a gauze-covered hand that had eyes on the cover. It was probably the first or second book I read for pleasure...there was no television up at the cottage..so playing games and reading were our only forms of entertainment. It became the first of many Stephen King books that I read. By the time I was 15 or 16 - I had read every book he published and so became the ritual of impatiently waiting for the next one. I believe I have read every novel and short story published in book form by Mr. King. I received an IPad for christmas this year and and now have the opportunity to purchase stories which were only published in e-book format. I'm loving GoodReads and am thrilled to have found this group!!

Hi Stacey, I'm Michelle. I just joined this group a few minutes ago and the first comment I read was this one and I had to laugh. That is almost exactly the same way I was introduced to Stephen King novels. Also in the early 80's, at the same age, I was looking through my mom's bookshelf in the basement and found "Night Shift", with the gauze-covered hand with the eyes on it. I love Stephen King books. I have most of them, but haven't read all that I have yet. I will get to them all eventually. Along with being what I consider a slow reader, and adding all of these to my other books I want to read, and all of life's other activities and distractions, it'll take awhile, but I'll get there. Thanks for the memory of my first Stephen King novel and nice to meet you :)

message 388: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (bellz18) | 2 comments Hi my name is Elizabeth and I absolutely love all of Stephen King's books. I have watched almost all the movies. He is one of the best authors that I have ever read and watched. My favorite movie of his is Rose Red followed by Langoliers and The Shining.

Rob Damon | 24 comments I first read Stephen King when I was a teenager. I had The Shining and the Nightshift collection. Then I didn't touch his stuff for years but picked them up again as an adult. I think reading The Stand at 15 daunted me a little and I never finished it. But as an adult I have read over twenty of his novels and some short stories too.

Glad to join this group!

message 396: by Pandora (last edited Jan 07, 2014 03:21PM) (new)

Pandora (pandora1) | 1 comments Hi all, my name's Pandora and I love, love, love Stephen King!! Read "Doctor Sleep" last year and re-read "The Shining", "Carrie" and "Needful Things" among others - last time I read "The Shining" was in the 80's. I have a lot of Stephen King related stories, but won't bore everyone by writing a book! I noticed that the group is reading "Black House"! I've had this in my collection of over 40 King books and haven't read it yet! I will get on to it right away! Looking forward to reading and re-reading all of his fantastic books!! I'm ashamed to say that I haven't read "The Dark Tower" series!! Only read "The Gunslinger"! I have an obsession where I HAVE to buy ALL the books of a series, before beginning to read them, and have just managed to secure the whole seven in my Library of over 1,000 books! I've got a lot of reading to do!

I'm huge Dark Tower fan, and right now I'm reading the comic books and I'm quite enjoying them. Lately 22/11/63 totally rekindled my appreciation for the latest King work, after the huge disappointment of Under The Dome..
