~Joanie~ (joaniereadshorror) Hi! My name is Joanna, I’m 36 and I live in England. I have only just joined Good Reads but have been an avid reader all my life. The first Stephen King book I ever read was Pet Semetary when I was 11 and it scared the pants of me. It was brilliant! Since then I have been hooked. My favourite book is The Shining :)

Marlise (mawz76) | 119 comments Welcome Joanna! Pet Sematary was also the first book I read of his. The Shining, too, is one of my favorites!

message 3903: by Clara (Jelly) (new)

Clara (Jelly) (uvjelly) Hello, my name is Clara and I was born in Indiana, raised in Kentucky and recently moved to South Dakota with my boyfriend. I have always been into Stephen King books, I guess it's because my biological mother was so into him. She gave me away to her parents when I was 1 month old, she was sent to prison on and off throughout my life so I didn't see much of her but when I did she always had a Stephen King book. I was also born with something that I can't get rid of and I have to live with it for the rest of my life. So, naturally I hated her my entire life until I went to college for Human Services. Now, we are on a message and talk every couple months or so... But, I think that little part of me wanted to see what kind of person she was and I fell in love with the King for my own purpose of getting closer to her. Now, I am everything that is Stephen King. <3

~Annaki~ (annaki) Hi everyone :)

I'm Annaki from Denmark.
The first book I ever read by King, was The Tommyknockers, I was 14 and to this day I remain a little baffled that I actually managed to chew my way through it, because not only is English only my second language and I was young, but I was (and am) not a fan of horror. At all. But for some reason, even though I would probably have been better off starting with one of his other books, I got hooked and moved on to the ones that have become my favorites- The Shining, The Stand, It, The Dead Zone, Misery, Carrie, The Green Mile and so on. I still have a good number of his books that I haven't yet read, but I'm getting to them :)

So yeah... that's me :)

We are currently reading that one as a group and our consensus is that even though it isn't his strongest plot, his writing is terrific anyway.

Welcome!

Emily | 3 comments Hi everybody! I am Emily. I'm from southern Illinois (real close to St. Louis, MO. for reference) and I have been reading Stephen King's novels/short stories for about two or three years now (not long, I know). My first King was It and I would say that my favorite so far has been Salem's Lot . That being said, I don't know if I've really disliked any of his books. I'm charging through Joyland right now and I can't wait to see where it ends up. Feel free to reach out if you're looking for someone to chit chat with, I'm really looking forward to meeting more King readers! Nice to "meet" you all!

Welcome! Coincidentally I am listening to Joypland right now and have only a bit left. It's a re-re-reread for me. I hope you like it. Clearly I do.

Pretty sure there was a reference to Joyland in Revival which I actually really enjoyed.

message 3919: by Emily (new)

Emily | 3 comments Derrick, thank you for the welcome! I have not read Revival yet. I'm glad I'm reading Joyland first so I can catch that reference. Thanks for the heads up!

Matt Hey folks! My name's Matt and I'm coming from Columbus, Ohio. I'm a fairly new Stephen King fan. I read On Writing for a graduate course about a year and a half ago, and it inspired me to pick up It and The Shining. I instantly loved both books, and I can't wait to read more. I'm particularly curious about Pet Sematary, Salem's Lot, Carrie, The Outsider, The Institute, The Gunslinger and Mr. Mercedes.

Thanks! Yeah it was a class that relied heavily on memoirs. I was surprised to see it on the syllabus. A great read, though. Glad my professor included it!

T.L. Spezia (tspezia) | 1 comments Hello. I'm Tim and I'm from Michigan. I started reading Stephen King when I was a freshman in high school, which was 13 years ago now. My first King read was Carrie which got me hooked. Since then I've read at least fifteen of his novels, countless short stories, and have seen most of the movie adaptations. I'm looking forward to discussing these books with other King fans.

I have read It and Under the Dome in the past, and they inspired me to read King’s works from the beginning. I’ve read Carrie, ‘Salem’s Lot, and Rage so far, and I will be starting the shining probably tomorrow! I love his writing, and I’m keen to have more goodreads friends who read in this genre, so give me a friend request if you read a lot of kings books/ other similar works!

Brenda (brendabren) | 23 comments Hi. I've been here before but left cos there were a couple of people here that posted a lot that I didn't care for. I haven't checked out the topics and threads yet to see if they're still here. Anyway, also back because I noticed my reading habits got worse. Even if I'm not reading a Stephen King book, checking this place out somehow encouraged me to just read more often. Feel free to add me as a friend, as long as you're not inappropriate. Thanks! =)

There are many audio lovers here, so don't worry about that! I actually enjoy listening to an audio after I've read a book because they are often very different experiences.

Welcome. I would like to assure you that much of what King writes is not horror. He has been labeled as such because he excels at it, but he is not a one trick pony. A few of his that are not horror are The Body, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption: A Story from Different Seasons, The Talisman, The Colorado Kid, The Green Mile and many of his short stories.

Welcome, Drew, and I think 11/22/63 is King's best book of the 2010's.

Courtney | 1 comments Hi I'm Courtney!

I have been wanting to join a book club for years so I am so excited to discover this! I just got back into reading and there is no surprise that after reading my first Stephen King novel I just couldn't get enough. So far I've read The Shinning, Doctor Sleep, and It (I just finished this one today).

I am obsessed with his writing and I hope to write a little bit someday. So if anyone has any advice on what to read next or how to "book club" let me know! :)

Whitney (goodreadscomwhitney_april) Hello. My name is Whitney and I am from northern Maine, but i have spent the last couple of years leaving in Orono, ME attending UMaine, which as many of you may know is where Stephen King attended college and the state he grew up in. King is my favorite author and I especially love reading some of his novels and connecting with the places he is talking about as I have been there, or just the way he describes this wonderful state, even though it is sometimes in a very disturbing way. I look forward to reading more of his books and discussing them with you all! I am currently about 3/4 of the way into The Stand and loving it!
