Carrie Warkentin | 1 comments Hello my name is Carrie and I’ve been a King fan for years. An avid reader for most of my life, then for about 10 years I stopped because of personal issues with my ex. Now that that’s behind me I’m starting to integrate reading into my life again. I’ve missed it so much, lol! Thought this was a good group to add to my small handful of others on Goodreads. Plus making more friends of like interests and minds the merrier! Thx 😜

D.W. Metz (dwmetz) Hello all. I've been on Goodreads as a reader and an author for some time now but I'm new to this group. In the past few years, I've discarded or abandoned most of my social profiles (more time for reading, less time for drama). That said I've been trying to be more active on Goodreads lately, hence joining this group.

I became a King fan back when I was 11 or 12 I think. Different Seasons was the first book I read. I've recently started reading a lot more Stephen King (and Joe Hill) again.

Currently, I'm reading Needful Things

Amy Jo Colbert (amyjocolbert1973) | 3 comments I also was introduced to Stephen King at a young age. I was in 4th grade, so I would have been 9 or 10 when a teacher got on to me for reading a Stephen King book, during free time, in her classroom. Said it was inappropriate and vulgar, so of course I only wanted to read it even more. I'm pretty sure it was Different Seasons, or wait maybe it was another of his short story collections. Either way, I was hooked. At one time i owned everything he ever put out in print, was so proud of my book collection. Time passed, situations changed, I got older. Still love Mr. King, but sadly must admit I am several years behind on reading his works. I decided to remedy that by starting his Mr. Mercedes trilogy. I'll admit when I picked them up at the library I didn't even realize Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers were related, let alone a trilogy. I'm excited, I started reading a little tonight, but kids and other things got me distracted by I will get these books read, and hopefully move on to other great novels I haven't got to quite yet. I am really curious to read something his sons works, I have read so many great reviews, especially about Joe. Long live the King!

Amy Jo Colbert (amyjocolbert1973) | 3 comments Update on my earlier post, it was actually Skeleton Crew that I got called out on for reading in my 4th grade class. Love that book, can read it over and over and over.

Welcome DW & Amy. Great to be rediscovering King again. DW - as a writer I started reading King to keep his tone in my head. I figured if I kept reading him, the horror I was writing would have some of his feeling. Next thing I knew I had read all his novels. Did you ever do that... read to maintain the author's mood or tone or possibly even - hate to admit it - style?

message 3321: by Tracy (new)

Tracy | 163 comments Wow, Amy, as a teacher I hate to hear that happened. I think anything is good to read. It can be the most unimportant garbage, but if my student is reading it, I'm okay with that. I just want them reading.

message 3322: by Amy (new)

Amy Jo Colbert (amyjocolbert1973) | 3 comments I guess admitting that I read skeleton crew at 9 really shows my age! I agree tracy, as I got older and began to question authority and thought back on the incident in 4th grade, being reprimanded by my teacher for reading the highly inappropriate and "vulgar" Stephen King, I always thought it strange to get in trouble for reading a book! She was obviously letting her personal opinion on age appropriate reading material interfere with her job as an educator. Anyway, she didn't deter my reading or my love of anything Stephen King.

Hana Greetings, everybody.
My name is Hana, and I’m 16. I’m from Slovenia. I’m currently reading Mr. Mercedes and The Stand. Although a little ambiguous at first, I must say that I fell deeply in love with the original version of The Stand. I’m a tad idiosyncratic at times.

Monica Crane (mlcrane) Hello! My name is Monica, I'm from Maine, and I've been a Stephen King fan for 25 years. My first King book was Carrie but it was my second King book, The Stand, that had me hooked. I'm currently reading his books in order of publication just for fun. I also have a ridiculous need to buy every single movie adaptation to all of his books, no matter how terrible they are.

message 3346: by Del (new)

Del Hi folks. I was alerted to the existence of this place when I saw that my GR friend Monica had joined. How did I not know about this place before???

I was encouraged by my mum to buy a book as a gift for my dad, either for Fathers Day or a birthday. She mentioned he was a Stephen King fan, so I picked up It, which had just come out on paperback at the time, with that iconic cover featuring the eyes in the storm drain. I was only ten or so, and I knew I was too young to read it, but time and again I found myself gazing at the cover, terrified and excited at the same time. I think I finally read it about two years later, and... the rest is history.

mrbooks | 1469 comments Hello and welcome Monica. Hi Hana my friend now you can get other opinions and thoughts I think you will love these pages you will find those that agree and those that will argue with you but always with respect. Hi Del it is always those things we know we shouldn't do that pull us into doing them anyway. I am betting you connected with the boys when you read it the first time.

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Hi Monica. Do you keep an excel spreadsheet of all the books and the films and TV shows and cross-reference them all? I think that's called OCD... maybe a mild case, but it's not a bad condition for a writer to have. :-)

So, Monica, I picked up an e-book copy of your novel "Through The Shattered Looking Glass." Looks very good. I've got quite a stack of books to read, but I'll get to it and write a review when I can.
Graphic adult content, extreme gore? Sounds like my kind of book.
