It's pretty different than Farseer. Kind of hard to compare them. I enjoyed both. In some ways I probably like Liveship better because you follow more than one character.
Then again I liked Tawny man better than Liveship and that's back to just Fitz first person.
Ship of Magicis book one. I had to run and make sure I had bought the right one. I'm like you, Rob, and need a break to read some books that I want to read, so I may take a little break after Farseer. Hanne will have David and I think, several others. But I have bought book one of Liveship because regardless of when I start, I really like Hobb, and plan to continue on with her books.
Well in my case Hobb's books WERE the books I wanted to read. I read all of Tawny man in a row in December. The first two trilogies were broken up a bit more due to other stuff I was reading.
Overall I read all 9 between August when S&L did Assassin's Apprentice and December when I finished Fool's Fate

The Rook, Boneshaker, The Heir of Night, etc, etc, I can't wait to read them. At least one a month is my new plan.
I'm looking forward to reading Liveship Traders with this group. I generally have a problem deciding what to read next so these group reads make things easy

Like Gail's awesome choice. With so few of us in our other group, and I've always been a group participator, I'm disappointed that I'm unable to be a part of Gail's discussion. A side read is different. But this is a group read. Anyway it is for the best, now I'll get that personal read in.
Im hoping to catch up! I am hoping to start the Farseer trilogy by th beginning of march! Im really looking forward to it! :) How does this story compared to brent weeks night angel trilogy? because i loved that series!
btw hanne.. I know and used to like pluk van de petteflat. But I truly loved Wipneus en Pim back then.

Hi Shaad, i haven't read Brent Weeks so i can't really tell either. I think David has been reading them? So if he pops in, he perhaps can tell!

I don't know Wipneus en Pim. I looked them up but i don't recognize them at all! As a kid, i probably liked Floddertje best. :D

I think Way of Shadows is a much darker book than Farseer and the type of Assassins are very different as well. The assassins in Night Angel are part of a criminal underworld and are lot like ninja style assassins and there is a lot more focus on the action. While in Farseer they are more instruments of diplomacy and a lot more covert and there is greater emphasis on the politics and intrigues of the royal court. I like them both.
I've only read the first book of the Night Angel trilogy so far. Loving Brent Weeks books - but this is very differ..."Thanks its sounds like that something I will love because i really enjoy good politics and intrigue! Hope to start soon!! :)

Well just finished the finished mistborn trilogy (amazing series)!! I've finally started reading assassin's apprentice!!

Hi - I read all the Robin Hobb books I could find just last year, with Hobb quickly becoming a favorite author. I have been patiently (not very patiently really) waiting for the final book in the Rain Wilds Chronicles, due out very soon! I'll need a refresher before I read that one, so it will be good to read all your comments.
Finally someone who has read them all!! I look forward to discussing them with you!!

Hi!I'm a portuguese fan and I've seen the link for this group in Robin's twitter account.
I've read the Farseer Trilogy and the Tawny Man trilogy and I loved them both. Robin Hobb has become one of my favorite writers and one of the few that I want to read all that is published. I'm currently reading in audiobook "Mad Ship" (the second book of the Liveship Traders), but going very slow. I guess I can read the third one with all of you.

She posted a fb message about goodreads today... I reacted to it with a comment about this group... 2 hrs later she twittert about it.... Coincidence?? I don't think so... Love this confirmation that hobb actually reads the comments people post on her facebook!!

Her fb is kept by herself and some assistant I believe... I too often see pics of her own cat and stuff. Don't think an agent would post that...
I believe when the tweets have the hashtag #TheOfficeKat it's not Robin tweeting, but her assistant. It is her official twitter account, though.

So glad I found you guys! Hi...just started the Farseer trilogy this year and am about to complete Royal Assassin shortly. I hope to be able to catch up...if not, I'm enjoying going back and reading the discussions.So that's about it :)
As certain people's update messages seem to indicate that the Liveship books are totally amazing, I decided to join this read aswell.Only read Assassin's Apprentice so far, but catching up on group reads seems to be my new favourite thing. :)

liveship traders is fabulous! i liked farseer too, but more for the lovely atmosphere she creates. liveship traders is just prime time storytelling

I found that Farseer dwindled off for my by the midpoint of book three. Am I to understand that Liveship is perhaps of a different pacing or story structure? Hope so.
The great difference seems to be that Farseer and again Tawny Man are just one pov books and Liveship and Rain Wild have multiple pov.I'm more of a multiple pov guy so I'm really looking forward to Liveship.
Welcome Mpauili - you can't have enough gargantuan series going at the same time IMO@Darren - I'm around halfway through the third book of Liveships and things are cranking up - I don't think I had any problems with the pace through the series - it isn't fast paced but it's fairly evenly paced I think.

they are written very differently. liveship traders has multiple point of view characters and a lot of different storylines, while farseer is focused on the one and that tends to slow down the different pace.
as op midpoint book 3 i really regret having to sleep and work, i wish i could have read the 500 pages in one go.
I was "reading" most of book three of Farseer through audible (so listening). It was a tough go. Perhaps Liveship will reinvigorate my interest!
hi everyone, I discovered Robin Hobb last year . I loved the Farseer and the Liveship series. It is so dififcult to find really good fantasy. I recently read the first Tawny Man book but now I'm having a break so i don't read it all up in one go ;)

PS: if you want to find some other really good fantasy, there are actually quite a few out there but finding them in a library or bookstore can be tricky.
there is a very good list out there from the fantasy afictionados. if you search for their group i'm sure you'll find it
