To my kowledge, this was a correctly performed welcoming joke. :P
Hi all, my name's Em. I'm a bit late to the party as I see you've already started/finished the new book! I'm just glad to find a group where I can chat about everything as there's always so much to discuss with these books! I've just finished my third re-read of the whole series and started the book yesterday. I'm on chapter 7:)
Hello All, I've been commenting away for days without introducing myself. On here i'm Little Red, Good morrow fair gents and maidens (bows with hand flourish). I've read all of Robin Hobbs books apart from Soldiers Son- which i started then nodded off! Good to chat with like minded folk!
Hello everybody. My name is "Violaine", I'm french and I'm glad to join your group.
I only red the Assassin's books when I was a teenager, but by finding this group, I have a new motivation to read all others.
(Please, excuse me for my poor english).
I don't really know the rules of goodreads but can I start this challenge even if I'm a little late ?
I will read Robbin Hobbs books in french, so the covers won't be the same for me, but the story will surely be as good.
Welcome Violaine. You're more than welcome to read the books at whatever pace works for you.
Since you've only read the first trilogy, I'd highly recommend reading the rest (Liveship, Tawny Man, Rainwild, Fitz & Fool) in publication order.
Feel free to jump in to the old discussion threads and ask questions and post observations, people will still likely be reading and responding to them.
Greetings and best wishes for 2015!I began the series in order with the Assassin's trilogy in October and although I have the Liveship trilogy in my kindle I decided to jump forward to Tawny Man.
I realize this goes against the general consensus regarding reading order, but I really just wanted to continue with Fitz's story for now. (Anyone who has read GRR Martin understands the trauma of enduring an entire book within a series that leaves a favorite main character ignored and absent. I will not knowingly submit myself to that again!)
I look forward to reading the insights of the group both past and future.
Cheers!

I did the same, but after reading Tawny Man , you will want to read Liveship/rainwilds to fill in a few blanks. You have many 'Aha' moments to come! Enjoy!
happy new year!
zyxanthus, you're free to read in whatever order you want. suggestions are just suggestions and nothing more! i hope you'll enjoy them.

Hello :) I've just started reading the assassins apprentice it's one of thee most intriguing story's so far discriptive but not overly like some fantasy books. looking forward to the next few I read.
Hi :) I discovered Robin Hobb in February through Booktube. Needless to say I fell completely in love with the Realm of the Elderlings after reading the Farseer trilogy. Now I'm absolutely awe struck with The Liveship Traders. I might finish The Mad Ship today (less than 100 pages to go) and imediately start Ship of Destiny. So glad to have found this group, even if it's not so active anymore :D
Welcome. The group was fairly active for her latest book earlier this year, but yea the older threads aren't seeing as much love.
Hi all, so glad I found this group since the other one is so silent. I finished 11 books of Hobb in a row recently - I think I only have the Soldier's Son trilogy unread. Definitely could not get enough of the Realm of the Elderlings. My favorites would be the Liveship Traders novels, first two Rain Wild novels and of course, the latest two books. Wonder when the third book is going to be published.

Welcome on board! you have excellent taste. :-)
I recently joined as well, after reading The Farseer Trilogy, The Tawny Man Trilogy and the Fitz & The Fool Books. I've also read the Rain Wilds Trilogy & am on Ship of Destiny. Next comes Soldier's Son. Absolutely cannot get enough of her writing (or Fitz ;-) )I've noticed referrals to the Realm of the Elderlings. Is this another book series or is it the overall series title?
Parker wrote: "I've noticed referrals to the Realm of the Elderlings. Is this another book series or is it the overall series title?"It refers to the overall series title of the majority of her series.
Hi Parker, if you feel inclined to, there's also Piebald Prince to read. It is a prequel of sorts about Wit in Buck, so considered part of the Realm of the Elderlings (ROTE).
Alfred wrote: "Hi Parker, if you feel inclined to, there's also Piebald Prince to read. One about the first settlers-who came from Jamallia, and the second about a trader. (the rest of the anthology is contemporary/sci-fi and i found it meh.
Scarletine wrote: "And there is also a couple of the short stories in the anthology 'The Inheritance' that is about Bingtown"I didn't know that! More good stuff to read thanks!

Actually, that's what led me to the rest of the books. That and "The Inheritance". One read & I was hooked.
Hi my name is Kaylee and I just joined Goodreads.Since I finished the rain wilds trilogy I absolutely love Robin Hobb's work and after some other books I'm reading this week I'll start on her other work !
Hi everyone! I am Colleen, I found Robin Hobb through book list suggestions on GoodReads as I am a fan of Marion Zimmer Bradley's Avalon Series and GRRM's SOIAF. I detested Patrick Rothfuss's Kingkiller Chronicles and have been looking for another addictive series, I think I have found it in the Realm of the Elderlings. I am only on the second book of the Farseer Trilogy (Royal Assassin) but as I was reading I had some questions....is it okay to "revive" threads that have been buried for a while on this board as they relate to the Hobb books I'm only now reading?
Welcome Colleen. Go for it. I'm sure people here are more than happy to discuss the earlier books with you.
Donna wrote: "Yes please, I can discuss all of them anytime."Totally agree with that. Would love to, in fact.
Candace wrote: "Christopher wrote: "So cool I have still to read her latest three! :D Lol"Hi Christopher, great to see you here. Do you plan on joining us for any of the books before the last three? We're finish..."
I would read the Farseer trilogy then the Tawny man and then the Fitz & the Fool books, the liveship books are not a continuation of the other books it just has some common characters and will throw you off a bit.
Alfred wrote: "Hi Parker, if you feel inclined to, there's also Piebald Prince to read. my yearning for anything to do with the six duchy's.
I disagree about skipping Liveship personally. There are some nice easter eggs in Tawny Man you'll miss if you haven't. Plus she's stated those books will be more important to the current trilogy.
Rob wrote: "I disagree about skipping Liveship personally. There are some nice easter eggs in Tawny Man you'll miss if you haven't. To each their own. I thoroughly enjoyed them all in publication order and still think that is the best way. While there appear to be few connections between the series at first, the events of Liveship occur during the gap in time between Farseer and Tawney man (about 15 years). Not to mention Tawney man has a major spoiler for Liveship.
Yeah, avoiding Liveship entirely is one thing (which I don't recommend, btw), but if you're going to read both then read them in order! Because Tawny Man sits down and infodumps the ending of Liveships.
Besides, some of the same characters are in Liveship who figure in the later books & you'll be confused (as I was, since I read the Tawny Man Trilogy first) as to who they are & their significance to the story.
Plot wise Liveship seemingly has little connection to Farseer and Tawny Man, and Fitz-Fool. But there is actually a... big bridge that spans across all four trilogies. As in the aha moments are even more meaningful when you read them, and read them in order. I am slowly re reading for the x time, and still going wow! Brilliant! Aha! Cool! Damn! And other more embarrassing exclamations...Please don't take this as "dictating" how anyone must read the books... Just a minimum suggestion for maximum enjoyment.
I read Tawny Man before Liveships and, while I still loved both, I kind of regretted reading them out of order. Each series is still great, even out of order, but I would have been more excited and rewarded to understand the references to Liveships in Tawny Man right away than trying to retroactively contextualize them.
