My first encounter with Robin Hobb was through a comment on a goodreads list I was checking out. I looked up the Farseer trilogy and decided it might be worth reading, so I wrote it down. Some time later I signed up for a group (re-)read of ASoIaF and one of the other members had Assassin's Apprentice on her to-read list, so I messaged her and we decided to read it together. She hated it and I fell in love with it. I have the entire first trilogy, but since I might not be able to get the others for a while, I've been holding off on reading the following novels. Don't want to binge read the trilogy and then have to suffer through abstinence :D I'm sorry I found out about this group so late, but I'd love to read your discussions and I hope I can still comment while reading the other books.

*wave*
I have read nothing by Hobb yet, but want to. This seemed a good place to be in for when I finally get round to it.

My co-author and I are actually publishing our first maritime fantasy adventure story at the end of this year. If you love reading that kind of thing, let me know if you want to beta read our final draft!
Here's a brief description:
Slavers ply the serpent-filled seas, an ambassador disappears. Two warships from vastly different cultures chase the same mystery. A ruthless swordswoman frozen by grief finds an unlooked for friendship in a reckless sea officer. They fight side by side to prevent a war they don't yet understand.
