refresh book rating stats

People have mentioned that you can go to your Edit link and click Refresh book rating stats if your stats get out of synch (which mine are), but when I try it, it tells me I have to be a librarian to do it. Can someone please help?

Thanks for trying, but now instead of missing a dozen or so ratings, there are no ratings at all. It has been half a day, but still nothing shows up.

Can someone please refresh the stats for this book? Usually an author can do their own but it just gives me an error message. It should be 17 ratings instead of 18, because I lost one ages ago.

Thanks. It said I wasn't a librarian and only a librarian could do that. It said I should apply to be a librarian if I wanted more access or something. It was a big red message, on the book page. But I refreshed the stats for another couple of my books, and it worked fine (I do wait a while, it just doesn't happen on its own anymore). Weird.

It was the same message for me, and even though my book was just refreshed on the 2nd, none of the half dozen ratings the book has received since then have shown up in the details. I write software for a living, and I can't imagine why this would be the case.

I'm not sure why we got the error message saying you had to be a librarian to refresh stats - that's new to me - but the bug where the stats need to be refreshed in the first place has been around for weeks. It's happening to loads of books, and there's a thread in the Goodreads Feedback forum where it's been mentioned.

I don't know if Goodreads' staff are doing anything about it yet, though. This never used to happen before. Hopefully it will be fixed soon, and the stats will go back to updating a few days after new ratings are added, like normal.

The OPTION to refresh the stats has been around for about 3 years. I'm not sure if the the need to use it has grown recently or whether authors (and readers) just check their stats more carefully.

That's not what I meant. I know the option to refresh the stats was around for a long time, however for many books lately the stats graph doesn't update - even after weeks. The star average will change and the number of ratings will change, but the stats graph will be stuck.

We think it's a bug because the stats graph used to update after a few days when you got new ratings - you just waited. Now it won't update for some books. Patrick said he thought there was a problem in another forum and he'd have it looked into, but that's the last I heard.

I agree with Mona. (I do check once a day or so, but) my stats had literally not updated for months before I mentioned it, and now it's been over a month since they were manually updated and they still aren't updating automatically. It seems likely it's a bug in the software.

Last I heard, the bug was something in the cache process and was impacting more stats than just book ratings and they are actively working on (well, maybe not during holiday breaks).

I don't think it's supposed to be giving authors an error message about librarian status when they try to refresh their own books. In fact, in feedback group, the bug discussions, keeps telling authors to refresh their own or ask for help in this group.

Nearly a year has passed since I last posted on this thread. My stats still aren't updating, and I still get a message saying I need to be a librarian to update them. I think it might be related to a problem I've had previously with there being two authors named Bill Allen. My books were apparently entered with two spaces between the names, so maybe the software doesn't recognize me as the author of my own books. In any event, would someone please help me refresh the stats on this book:

Your books are supposed to have two spaces between first and last names. That's how the system knows they belong to you and not another author with the same name.

re 27, i've updated the stats for both books. if that doesn't solve your problem in the next day or so, contact support directly. this is all librarians can do in this instance.

It gets confusing when a thread linked to a specific book or author is also used for other books. I am closing this thread. Start new ones for other books.
