Revision: The first book I gave three stars. By the end of the book, I knew I was going to read more, but before Bones showed up, I was unhappy.

Once he came on the scene, it was full steam ahead and the following books in the series didn't disappoint.

Argeneau series is funny as hell, has hot couples without falling into erotica and is an easy read.

Dark Hunters is not really vamps, but soul-suckers vs immortal warriors. Has a lot of action, and is fascinating for the mythology she brings in and the hot, take-charge men. She concentrates a lot on world-building, so there's an awesome plot that threads throughout the series.

Hamilton and Harris' worlds are fab for vampire politics and making you understand that these are not human beings, they're immortals with different motivations. Chance's world has been good at bringing that home too.

MaryJanice Davidson's Undead series is just plain hilarious. Betsy is an unorthodox vampire queen who sneezes at holy water (literally) and loves nothing more than shoe shopping.

Adrian Pheonix is dark and gritty. She also incorporates fallen angels into her books.

Morganville is YA and again is on the darker side of things, where the characters are forced to look at not good vs evil, but at what qualifies as the lesser evil.

Frost's is a kick ass heroine who again deals in lesser vs greater evil, with action, humor, and gov't agencies thrown in.

The rest either don't have vamps, or have them as peripheral characters.

Someone else will have to chime in on Black Dagger since I've never read it!

As you can see, I can't choose a favorite. I've gotten sucked into each one of them for different reasons. But I'd run to the bookstore for any one of them (and have)!

Adrian Phoenix's The Maker's Song series is awesome! Uber hot vamp in Dante, super sexy fallen in Lucien and pure yumminess in the form of nomad Von. We're only two books in, but it's definitely one of my favorites. Too complex for me to describe in two sentences though.

Now, to weigh in on the whole Black Dagger Brotherhood recommendation for vamps - amazing! Honestly, J.R. Ward's Brothers remains my favorite series. Seriously hot guys, strong women and a wonderfully interesting world/story line. They are warriors fighting to protect their race from a race of baby powder smelling freaks out to destroy them.

Be advised that neither of these series are strictly PNR though. BDB starts off that way, but has moved into the UF, and The Maker's Song has always been UF. However, that shouldn't deter you - they're both still steamy. You should run out and buy them both. Now! ;)

yep, that's what I did. I was never an Angel fan--something about him turns all my buttons the wrong way, possibly the Cro-Magnon thing with the forhead. Anyway, it might be worth "suffering" through that if Spike resurfaces.

Has anyone read The White Mare by Jules Watson? I just started and I'm only about a 100 pages into it. I'm not sure if it's going to fall into the paranormal or fantasy realm and I'm praying there's going to be a romance because my inner love story junkie is jonesin' for it. I see the set up and feel the love a-comin' (no pun intended) but so far haven't felt the spark.

I found this book after a review in RT (or maybe historical novels reviews? can't remember) but the review said it was fabulous. So far, so good. Just wondering if anyone else had read. (no spoilers, please :))

Erin, I read a little bit The White Mare, Erin, but I stopped. It falls more into the historical side of historical fantasy, imo, and the romance is mild to nonexistent, LOL. Sorry I don't have any good news for you. :(

Another series with Vamps (very, very, VERY little to no romance) Is the Dhampire series by Barb & J. C. Hendee.

The 2 "heroic" characters in this series are a female Dhampire and her male elven partner. Oh--and his giant fey hound dog.

They start out "pretending" to be vamp hunters and about 1/4 or so of the way through the first book find out that "uh oh, there really ARE vamps out there" and then start killing them for fun and profit. Also cause they got P.O.-ed at a couple of vamps. This series is NOT set in "our" world per se, just one that is similar to ours.

As for my fav Vampire book, sorry, gotta go with THE main vamp book ever--Dracula. If Bram Stoker hadn't written that, there wouldn't really BE a PNR category today, since lets face it, Frankenstein just is NOT something that you can really come up with a romance for (Bride of Frankenstein or no Bride.)

I just read Midnight Mass by F. Paul Wilson, and it goes back to the traditional evil vamp scenario. Good page turner, if anyone's interested in taking a break from the romeo vamp.

I haven't read the book yet, but Nalini Singh's first book in a new series called Guild Hunters is out and it has fallen angels in them. The book is called Angel's Blood.

Adrienne, there aren't many books about fallen angels that I've seen, other than The Fallen by Thomas Sniegoski, but there are plenty about hot, conflicted angels who not always "good," LOL. Check out this thread for some good suggestions, including two of my faves. ;)

On the fallen angel comments I am not 100% but I think JR Ward is starting a new series about fallen angels. I feel like I heard it will be out around Thanksgiving. Has anyone else heard about this?

Wendy Alec has a couple of books about fallen angels. I haven't read them, but I don't think they are overly PNR. They are based on Lucifer and his "brothers" I think. Just FYI...

Yep J R Wards new series is about fallen who are bikers:: she introduced a angel in Phurys book right at the end called Lassiter he's staying with the BDB as a *two for the price of one* condition for bringing back one of the brothers who was missing:: can't wait for these books as i reckon they'll be as addictive as the BDB books.

on fallen angels--two of the Dresden books have fallen angels in them, but these are NOT fallen angels you would EVER want to meet. They make Hitler look like a nice guy. There are 30 of them, and they are called The Blackened Denerians (guess why there are only 30 of them) and they get their kicks out of murder, plague, torture and mayhem of all sorts. But they do make interesting villians.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure if Lassiter is any indication, I am going to LOVE Ward's new series. But Thanksgiving? I hate waiting!!!!

I have mixed feelings about the Warden starting a new series. That means it will take longer for BDB stories to come out. I really hope I love Covet and that the BDB is in them also.

Well, it's been taking longer anyway. I remember the release date for Lover Enshrined got pushed back at least once, and it's been almost a year between then and the release of Lover Avenged.
To me this means we won't have to wait a whole year to get our Ward fix after LA, even if it isn't BDB. (And even if Thanksgiving still seems too far away...)

Adrienne, no problem. Yep, A Mermaid's Kiss is definitely spicy, LOL. Heroine has to save a very doubtful angel. Angel's Blood is good too. The hero is definitely not always good there. He's a scary mofo, LOL. Who decides to seduce the heroine.

oh wow--I just thought of a sort of angel. The Sookie Stackhouse stories (aka Southern Vampire series) has Claudine, who is a faery WORKING on becoming an angel. She's Sookies Faery Godmother. So she only randomly pops in when Sookie is REALLY in trouble and is also NOT around vamps. Vamps and faeries get along like a chocoholic and a Dove bar. :o)

Nightkeepers is very good--there's a big cast of characters to keep track of, but they're all distinct and Striker is smoking hot. Her premise (holding off the Mayan Doomsday) is really interesting and unique.

My daughter will turn 21 years old on 12/21/2012. I told her she can't have any big parties cuz I don't want to 1. waste the money if the world is going to end anyway and 2. don't want her party possibly being the thing that brings on the end of the world. LOL
