Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Love Conquers All by Robert Benchley by Robert Benchley?

It will work. it's over 200 pages and has the word tie in it.

E. (justmee) OMGosh… i thought i had go find a book witha tie on the cover! i was stressing & found these two covers!
http://www.yalerecord.com/by-robert-b...
http://www.booksshouldbefree.com/imag...
which is why i started this one. oh well! can ya tell i'm still learning? LoL! anywho… i see everyone posting pages already. do i need to look for anything besides tie? is there anything else i should keep any eye out for? i know it's prob. obvious to everyone but i'm not sure if u need all the words or if we all look for the same words together.

E. (justmee) fog= "it is claimed inthe text, knows all the inside dope on why FOG forms in beads on a woolen coat,"
is that what i am suppose to keep an eye out for? also it is showing up more than once… do i count how many times or just the once?
again… sorry gals, not as challenged… just trying to make sure to pull my weight! :-)

message 55: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) The item can be in a picture on the cover, a word in the title, or a word somewhere in the text of the book. So you've got 3 options to make it easier.

You can see all the items you will need to claim through out the game in the Announcement Thread.

Each week you can claim one from each of the four catergories. Since this week has to be tie, that is your clothing, you'll need one from weather, body part and misc. You will need to claim them all by the end of the game but it is up to you which ones you claim from your book.

Your fog sentence is exactly what else you are supposed to be looking for.

It really is so much harder to explain than to do by week 3 you'll lhave it all down.

Just pick one sentence and the page/kindle location it's in.
Are you reading Love Conquers All?

Turtlecollector Dennis I am about a third of the way through now and have found about 10 items. I think I will try picking alphabetically this time unless I come across one I really don't think I can find in any of my other books I plan to read.

This book was longer than I would usually pick for this game, but since it is just the first week, speed of reading will not matter yet. I hope to have it finished by Tues though, since I have 6 more classic books to read by the end of Dec for a challenge in another group, and they usually take me a little longer to read than current ones.

E. (justmee) @Dyllan:
Yes… reading LCA. I found "FOG" in the sentence. I'm looking for other words. I'm doing AudioBook & PDF file. No page #s. can i look for ALL the words i can in this book o am i limited? are these the same words for the entire challenge o do the words change every week? Do i post my book info (words found, reporting where i am etc) here or on a main page? do you have to change book (finish book) each week or is same book for entire challenge acceptable? Thanks D & the rest of the BadAss8 for your help. I swear i'm not "slow" just confused because being a first timer! :-D

message 59: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) can i look for ALL the words i can in this book o am i limited? you can only claim 4 words from your weekly book

are these the same words for the entire challenge o do the words change every week? The 32 words given are it for the challenge, you need to find them all 4 per week but the item drawn that you MUST claim each week will be different, but still from the list of 32

Do i post my book info (words found, reporting where i am etc) here or on a main page? you will post here in your team thread

do you have to change book (finish book) each week or is same book for entire challenge acceptable? You need to read one book each week, it needs to be a new book each week. You can not claim your points until you finish the book. You can not claim a book that you started before the item of the week is drawn.

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) E. wrote: "can it be eye instead of eyes?"

Nope, the plural items have to be plural. You have to have at least two of them.

However, the sigular items are ok if there is more than one.

message 64: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) E. wrote: "bicycle= bike or no?"

Yes. Bike could by bicycle, moterbike or motercycle.

Turtlecollector Dennis If anyone needs a book, this is fairly long but I found 23 of the items in it. Since tie is last alphabetically in its list, I will claim the items that are last in their respective lists.

Week 1 - Tie

Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison by Ralph Ellison
Read 12/3/12 - 3 stars

This book was all right. I am glad I read it once, but I probably won't ever read it again. I did not connect with the characters and it is hard for me to relate to the time period it is set in. It follows the life of an African-American just two generations from slavery and from my current perspective, I just kept getting mad at what was happening to him.

Items claimed:

1. Clothing: tie pg 30
"...a blue-and-white polka-dotted tie."

2. Weather: wind pg 29
"...the dry winds hidden..."

3. Body part: toe pg 327
"...tip of the spieler's toe press upon..."

4. Misc: sky pg 99
"...as though the sky had shut its eye."

Way to go TurtleCollector!!

Here's your prize for finishing first!

Turtlecollector Dennis Thanks, I have 6 more classic books to get through in the next 3 1/2 weeks. Of course, I have lots of fun books as well. We'll see how many I can get done before my family shows up for Christmas.

E. (justmee) Almost finished w/ my book. Hurt myself yesterday. Laid up yesterday and today. Kids have been ordered only to help, no to bother by hubby (thanks hunee) so I am quickly getting through it. I have found so many of the words here I don't know which to choose for this week. Anywho… L❤ve Conquers All is heeeeelarious! Family is wondering what I find so amusing since I randomly laugh every so often! :-D

Paris (pah13) Week 1 - Tie

Broken by A.E. Rought by A.E. Rought
Finished: 12/4/2012
Rating: ★★★

Review:
I wanted to really like this book. After reading the description I thought that it had a ton of potential, although the fact that it was YA had me a little worried. Sometimes young adult books are great and sometimes...well sometimes I want to kill someone after reading the ridiculously whiny drivel that comes from the characters. This was kind of a combo pack of what I love and hate about young adult books. On top of that it really dragged in the beginning and middle. Things really picked up at the 80% mark, but by then it was too late and things were over too quickly.

As much as I hate the whole insta-love thing, I think this book would have benefited moving that part of the book along quicker so it could get to the creepy "Frankenstein"ish part of the book. That was definitely the best part.

Tie: "Mr LaRue smoothes his tie, a nervous habit and then says, "Welcome to Dune Ecology, Alex." Location 327
Weather: Moonlight "Moonlight spills down an angel's robe, collects in a puddle at the foot of the chipped urn, and glances from headstone engravings." Location 5
Body Parts: Elbow "The sharp elbow nudge Bree gives me registers in the same way movement registers in peripheral vision." Location 146
Misc: Emergency Vehicle: Ambulance "Ambulances turn the snow to mud as they back around to help us." Location 3691

Hope it's not too bad, and you get better soon. Or at least that you have the oppurtuity to milk it for all the reading time you can.

Turtlecollector Dennis I have been holding back on some of my books this week depending on what item is called. It is very hard for me to wait for the next item tomorrow, but I only have a few more hours to go and I have all day off tomorrow to read.

I did get one more of my classic novels finished this week, but it did not have quite 200 pages so it wouldn't work for this challenge anyway.

Hope you all have a good weekend. (It's past midnight here yay TGIF!!!)

Paris (pah13) Sorry you got hurt E. I hope that things get better soon and if not, at least you can take advantage of it.

No worries Dyllan. We'll make do without you, but I hope you can get that internet fixed. I would be in hell without internet. It's hard enough not being able to get online during work right now.

Turtlecollector Dennis @E- it's fine, you can still post your book.

I will be reading Life of Pi by Yann Martel for bone this week. I have to read it by Tuesday anyway for my book group. Since I was successful at picking last week, I am sticking with my alphabetical way of choosing again this week. This book will have the first alphabetically in all the categories.

Katherine (katdylan) Week 1
Item Called: Tie
Book: Romeo, Romeo
Author: Robin Kaye
Date: 12/04/2012
Rating: 5 Stars

Quick Review:

I have read this whole series already, and I'm doing a reread (to start her new series). I totally love Romeo, Romeo. Nick is the PERFECT man. Too bad he is fictional. When he is worried, he cleans! He cares, he's good looking, he works hard, he's great in bed. I really like Rosalie too. She's funny and crazy, she too works hard. They're opposites with lots of attraction. Their "relationship" starts so fast, they don't even notice, and before they know, they're a couple. I had so much fun reading this book. Domestic Gods is currently my FAVORITE contemporary series. 5 stars, no brainer.

Items Found:

WEATHER --> RAIN --> It was spring. It rained. End of story. (KL: 4314)

CLOTHING --> TIE --> It felt great to be out of a suit and a tie. (KL: )

BODY PARTS --> NOSE --> Hell, she even had a spot on her nose. (KL: 2875)

MISCELLANEOUS --> SHELVES --> "The secret to proper closet usage is to hang the clothes, put the heavier things on the shelves-or invest in a cargo net." (KL: 1896)

Review:
I like to support independent authors, so I didn't hesitate to buy this book when I was informed it had what I needed for a challenge. Unfortunately this is one of those indie books that I wish I hadn't bothered with. The plot had potential and was actually interesting, but the narration was lacking, I wasn't sure if it was third person or first person because at times it was both. On top of that, this book had obviously not been edited or at least not enough. There were words missing everywhere to the point sentences and scenes didn't make sense and there were times when sentences were attributed to the wrong gender. And if that wasn't enough there was a bunch of flashback type moments that I didn't realize were flashbacks until halfway through the scenes because they were not clearly marked as such. I spent a lot of time reading this book really, really confused.

This book could have been so much better than it was. It had a lot of potential, but in the end it was a giant waste of time.

Bone: "She made Tabitha want to go out and eat McDonalds every night just to add some meat to her bones." Location 1773
Weather: Rainbow: "The heads around the table nodded, and rushed to pack away their Limited edition Delta pens and bright every-shade-of-the-rainbow laminated folders into briefcases." Location 5779
Clothing: Bra: "They wear g-strings or nothing at all and frequently go without a bra." Location 1499
Misc: Cake: "You see, it wasn't every day a man got to have his cake and eat it too and to be honest, Markie felt as if he was rolling around in thick luscious chocolate Jerry Springer-style." Location 434

Turtlecollector Dennis Week 2 - Bone

Life of Pi by Yann Martel by Yann Martel
Read 12/10/12 - 5 stars

When I read the description of this book, I did not think I would enjoy it but it was for my book group. Much to my surprise, I loved it. It is now one of my favorite books. There are great descriptions of his life and at times I had to laugh even though the subject was serious. The end was also a big surprise and makes you think about what you just read.

Items claimed:

Body part: bone pg 37
"They'll break your bones as if..."

Weather: lightning pg 233
"...as that bolt of lightning..."

Clothing: belt pg 36
"...who was a black belt in karate..."

Misc: bike pg 43
"At least we're not riding bicycles..."
