Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Here is the link to the game spreadsheet.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) I don't want to be captain this time. Too much pressure.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) Although, "7" is supposed to be lucky

Camilla (cyqua) Here's our team spreadsheet where I'll try to keep track of our items.
Team spreadsheet

Hi, so happy to be playing this round! :)

I haven't played before, but if no one else is up for it (and I can get some help from the more experienced players) - I wouldn't mind being captain :)

Really looking forward to playing with you all!

message 7: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cynx) | 408 comments Hi Ladies ☺! 7 is my lucky number!

Since Camilla is interested, she could be the captain. I'm not too sure if I'll have enough time, sadly I still have a lot of Christmas shopping to do.. =/

message 8: by Camilla (last edited Nov 25, 2012 03:24PM) (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Anybody have any good ideas for names??

I'm terrible at that stuff.. :D

All I can think of are things like...

"Scavenging Seven" (the obvious one)
"The Savvy Seven"
"Smashing Seven"
"The Deciphering Seven"
"Seven Spellers"

message 9: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) By the way, just thought I'd quickly properly introduce myself:
My name is Camilla, I'm 31, I'm originally from Denmark, but currently live in Barcelona, Spain with my husband (no kids).
I love to read and do it whenever I have the chance :)

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) Savvy Scavengers (kind of a mix of your earlier ideas)

message 11: by Cindy (last edited Nov 25, 2012 05:04PM) (new)

Cindy (cynx) | 408 comments My name is Cindy, and I'm 26. I live in Boston, MA. The timezone here is Eastern Standard Time.

I love the name Savvy Scavengers, Alana! ☺

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) I keep imagining Johnny Depp doing his Captain Jack Sparrow "Savvy"

I'm 36, live in Austin, TX. Mother of two boys, my husband is my best friend, and I work full time as a church secretary. But I'm not your average church secretary. I'm in Central time zone.

message 13: by Camilla (last edited Nov 26, 2012 01:47AM) (new)

Camilla (cyqua) I love the Savvy Scavengers as well! And Alana, you're completely right - it should be said as Captain Jack Sparrow! :)

Oh, and my time zone is is Central European (CET) which is GMT +1 (it's 10.47 am right now :)

message 14: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) I was just wondering, how many of you have played this before and how many are newbies like me? :)

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) I've played the last 2 rounds

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) Oh... Katya.... where are you?

Hopefully we can see what Katya thinks of Savvy Scavengers, and then have it as a name unless she comes up with something better

message 17: by Camilla (last edited Nov 27, 2012 09:53AM) (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Yeah, I was wondering whether we should send her a PM later today if she still hasn't checked in?
Maybe she just didn't notice that the teams have been posted...

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) It was a holiday weekend, too... maybe she's still getting into the swing of things, catching up on work or something

message 19: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cynx) | 408 comments I played the last round.

message 20: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) I'll send her a PM. If she doesn't pop in soon make sure to bring it back up to me.

message 21: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Thanks Dawn :)

message 22: by Katya (new)

Katya I am here. Sorry, got preoccupied.
Savvy Scavengers sounds great to me.
My vote for captain=Camilla
I am in CT/USA EST
This is my fourth round....I was on one winning team...but it is fun no matter what.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) OK... I think we have a winning name!

Savvy?

message 24: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Hi Katya, Great to have you with us! :)

I still don't mind being captain (I'm happy to do all the "practical" stuff), but considering I'm the only newbie of us all, I'd also be happy to hand over the reins to someone else! :)

And since everybody likes the Savvy Scavengers (Jack Sparrow-style), let's go with that! :)

message 25: by Katya (last edited Nov 27, 2012 01:03PM) (new)

Katya Camilla just because you are a "newbie" does not mean you are not a perfect candidate for being the captain.

I am happy to have you as our captain. We all need to support each other and cheer each other on. But we need a leader and it is good to give everyone an opportunity. You'll be great!

BTW....It is a great name for the group.

The most important parts of this challenge is:
1. Stay in communication....so if you are having difficult or need a suggestion....chat. I have been on teams where people disappear.
2. Find as many items as possible and use up the hardest items first...just in case.
3. Especially near the end of the game....pick and read your book as fast as possible....because someone else might go out a couple hours before you.
4. If any of you don't read electronic books ask us....we can search for items in your book for you or offer suggestions.

message 26: by Camilla (last edited Nov 27, 2012 01:03PM) (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Thanks, Katya :) That's so sweet of you!

Ok, I will take on the mantle of captain then :) I'm really looking forward to playing and I actually spent a lot of time following the last round you guys played (I just missed the sign-up).

I'll let Dawn know our awesome new name :)

Also, would you guys like to have a "private" spreadsheet just for us? I can create one so we have several places to keep track of what we've found :)

What ever you would like Camilla....I am easy.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) I am easy, too.... Usually I just print out a list and stick it in the front flap of my Kindle as a reminder.

Camilla (cyqua) Alana ~ The Book Pimp wrote: "I am easy, too.... Usually I just print out a list and stick it in the front flap of my Kindle as a reminder."

What a great idea! :) I'll do that too :)

I'll probably make a spreadsheet anyway to keep track, so I don't miss any items - we're going for gold! :)

message 30: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Ok, I put the team spreadsheet in my first post #6. Hopefully, that'll make it easier to check :)

Thanks! Hopefully not too overexcited ;) I was just so bummed that I missed the last round, I've really been looking forward to being able to participate this time around :)

message 33: by Katya (new)

Katya This is a fun game to play Camilla...it is especially fun because of the team aspect.

I have some books lined up and ready to go!

message 34: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Hi guys,

Just wanted to let you know that I'm leaving tomorrow morning for a long weekend. Going to the wedding of one of my best friends :)
But that means I might not be very much online the next couple of days including Friday. I'll definitely check in and get the item called and will of course read my book, but just so you know that I might not be the best captain this first week.
I will have access to internet where I'm staying, but maybe just not very much...
I will be back home on Wednesday the 5th.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) First week is NO biggie... have fun! And thanks for keeping us in the loop!

message 36: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) So, the first word is called! And it's: Tie in the clothing category :-)
Happy reading!

Katya I am already started on The Marriage Mistake (Marriage to a Billionare, #3) by Jennifer Probst I scanned it already and it has an item from each category: Clothing-Tie, Body Part-Toe, Weather-Mist & Misc.-Bikes.

Katya Week #1 - Clothing-Tie

The Marriage Mistake (Marriage to a Billionare, #3) by Jennifer Probst The Marriage Mistake by Jennifer Probst
(Book 3 of the Marriage to a Billionaire Series)

4.0 Stars! Read 11/30

I liked this...And I love this series. Max runs those US operations with Michael, his best friend. In comes Michael's baby sister into the picture, fresh out of college, has arrived to take her place in their business, as his assistant. Growing up, she idolized Max, and was always hurt when he pushed her aside and dated one beautiful women after another.

But what is different is that Max is wildly attracted to the new and improved, grown-up, sexy Carina. But she is his best friend's sister and he trusts her to look out for her and certainly not to treat her as one of his women. It doesn't help that she flirts like crazy with him and their attraction spills out all over the place. Fun series, easy read, great characters and lots of passion. I look forward to book number 4 coming out.

Clothing - Tie (Page 81) "His purple tie was perfectly knotted and never askew."
Weather- Mist/Fog (Page 60) "By the time she buckled herself in, a light mist of rain hit the windshield, which suddenly turned into a fierce storm."
Body Parts - Toe (Page 160) "He paused and lifted her up on her toes."
Misc - Bike (Page 188) "Then he brought all his rodent friends to party and we were afraid to even go in to get our bikes."

message 42: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cynx) | 408 comments Way to go Katya! ☺

message 43: by Katya (new)

Katya Thanks Cindy! It is easy to find a book at the beginning!!!

message 44: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) I found out that my book I'm reading for another challenge has "tie" and several other words from the other categories :) Yay!
Now I just have to decide which ones to claim... Do any of you more experienced players have any "tips" about which items to claim if you have several to choose from?

message 45: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cynx) | 408 comments I'm going to read Escape to Paradise for Tie.

message 46: by Katya (new)

Katya I find that at the beginning to try to find the hardest words.....for instance in the past we had words like Moonlight and another word might be Hurricane. And the weekly word might be couple. Well, you find a couple book and then try to find your secondary words and since Moonlight is easier so if I had my druthers I would find a hurricane secondary word first. Did I make any sense...because when it comes down to the wire you want easy to find words. Like car vs bike or floor vs staircase....

message 47: by Katya (new)

Katya The other thing that is important is to get your reading done as quickly as possible....not so much at the beginning but nearer to the end. One hour can make the difference from coming in first or third.

I also steal ideas from other threads.

And another important thing is to find as many items as you can...if the book doesn't have all four items you are eligible for...move on....don't read it.

message 48: by Katya (new)

Katya Enough sage advise? lolol

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) Week One: Tie (Clothing Item)

Dark Waltz, a Praestani Novel (#1) by A.M. Hargrove

Read from Nov 30th-Dec 2nd
Dark Waltz, a Praestani Novel (#1) Dark Waltz, a Praestani Novel by A.M. Hargrove

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Rocked my socks right off. I'd actually give it 4½♥'s, but fudged up to 5 for GR. I received an ARC from A.M. Hargrove in exchange for a honest review. This book was SO great... it reminded me of the Donnie and Marie Osmond song "A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock N Roll" only, instead substitute Sci-fi and Dystopian (and a healthy dose of Paranormal.) I really love how this book mashes up so many genres together into this little harmonious, entertaining package.

Those that have shied away from A.M.'s previous works due to them being in the YA Category can pick this book up with no anxiety. It's spicy enough to turn up the heat on any reader. "Jurgasms", anyone? (Trust me, they are a VERY good thing and I'm first in line.) It was just the perfect balance of instant attraction, alpha males, fights, and the romance remains this roaring fire underneath it all. There is no fear in this book of insta-love, rather the romance is more organic and passionate.

Any concerns about not being familiar with the series are not a problem as well. While you won't have the full background, previous books are not required to still love and understand the book. It's a futuristic and darker world with aliens and other dark creatures that go bump in the night. Anyone who would enjoy something a little different, a little spicy will find a gem with this first book of the Praestani series.

Favorite Bit:
"Be glad you're not in my pants right now."
"But I'd love to get in your pants right now. That's exactly where I want to be."
He roared with laughter. "And I'd love for you to be in my pants."

Direct Link to My Review

Items
Tie Location 861/Page 57 "... will be everything from cocktail attire to black tie."
Toe Location 618/Page 41 "...tapped her toe on the floor."
Moonlight Location 527/Page 35 "...swirling orbs of silver, reflected in the moonlight."
Sky Location 248/Page 17 "Did you just fall out of the sky?"
