I had a bit of a hard time getting into this book as the style is very different and lyrical.
But after getting used to it, I was able to immerse myself in the story which was different than most everything I've read..
Sad, depressing and optimistic all at the same time - and the back-drop of the Newfoundland which isn't really a backdrop but more the centre and surroundings at the same time.
Hard to describe this book - I could talk about the story line, but that's not what makes this book good - what makes it different is the style and the combination of its elements.
So, give it a chance despite perhaps being a bit scared for the first 20 pages.. It's well worth it!

A nice quick-to-read story
Nothing too new when you've read your share of Urban Fantasy, but still a bit different considering Anita's profession.
I liked that the story didn't do the (by now) "usual" turn into loads of freaky supernatural sex, but I've heard that changes as the series progresses. I'll likely read the next book sometime, but it's not high on my TBR.
The most disappointing thing that kept this from being a 4 star book, was the ending which seemed very rushed with everything going just right and within very few pages. Considering the build-up, that seemed a bit "cheap" to just end it that easily and "they lived happily ever after"...
Oh, and I hate cardboard, token friends that are just introduced for 5 mins just so the bad guys have something to threaten our hero with!

○Review: Holly is a very independent and strong heroine. She has experienced her own pain through Adam pushing her away, a painful divorce that left her segregated from love and romance, and now the last thing she wants is to relive that pain when she sees that Adam has returned. She is content, happy with her life until this blast from her past invades her sanctuary. What she never expects is to find a need for Adam and his search and rescue skills, much less a deeper need that she thought was put away and buried for good. In like turn, Adam never wanted to utilize those search and rescue skills that left him damaged, but no matter how he fights it, the lure to help Holly is greater than his will. Jill Shalvis is a must read author for me.

Remember as we get closer to the end it is so important to be quick to read....That means we need to be caught up. Because if we are missing out on points and someone else isn't they will win. I need to catch up on bike.....I am trying to find a book....I already had bike but want the extra points.
Cindy, great job....but please....try hard to catch up......so when the end comes we are in the running.

Yes, Cindy, if we could get up to date before the last few weeks, that would be awesome!
And Alana, I believe in you! You can get that perfect score :)

(Bad News) I only found three items in the book I just finished, but (good news) I found all 4 that I will need in the book I am currently reading. I should have it done by Sat at the latest.

Item of the Week is: Rain
Which if course I have already just claimed :( But at least the rest of you all still have it to claim :)
Sorry for checking in so late, I've had a massive migraine all day and am just now starting to have coherent thoughts again...
Happy reading!

Review:
4½ Manipulative ♥'s.
I knew a wee bit about this book, after all I bought it and read the blurb. I was worried initially that I would not be able to find any redeeming qualities of Olivia, that her being (as she put it) "the worst sort of bastard a woman could drop from her loins" would prevent me from connecting with her or feeling sympathy for her. That was absolutely not the case. Olivia is broken; she made some EVIL choices. If an angel and devil were sitting on Olivia's shoulders... the devil won, hands down, for about 7 years of her life. 7 LONG years. However, despite her horrid choices, she wasn't the sole manipulator.
This book is about choices. Everyday we are faced with choices, some bigger than life, some small and seemingly insignificant. Even the smallest of choices, not to accept an offer to share an umbrella to your car, can set off a sequence of events that can significantly alter your life. This book is overflowing with choices, primarily BAD choices. Over and over, I almost want to label some of these characters insane because they seem to define it (doing the same thing OVER and OVER and expecting a different outcome.) While Olivia was not a 'good' person, I understood her reasoning. I wouldn't necessarily do the same thing myself, but I 'got' why she did what she did. I could accept it, and she really beat herself up far more than she should. For all the hubbub about her ruining his life... lalala... I call bullshit. It takes TWO to tango, and trust me, the manipulation is NOT one sided.
Be prepared for twists. BIG ONES. They are so blindsiding, I felt like I got hit by a truck while playing twister. They hurt my heart. This entire book made my insides ache, made me swear like a sailor, and made me simultaneously sob declare my love and hate for this book and plot the death of the fictional characters. It's intense. It's PERFECT for a buddy read... I really wish I had a friend to psychologically hold my hand while reading it.
GAH! If you can take twisted, broken, messed up romances- just read it already!

○Review: Rafe Delacantro is a photographer, who is tired of taking pictures of fashion-shoots. He wants to retire from Hollywood, lead a quieter life and be closer to his sisters. He only has one assignment left, with Amber( a high-strung model). But it is not Amber who walks into the shoot, but her twin Emma. Rafe realizes it's her since he knows Amber and her behavior, but he decides to play along. Emma is the script-writing sister who is more of a parent than a sister. She is the responsible one, bailing out her sister, putting work first. She is terrified of the shoot since it is so sexy but later she feels exhilarated over the power it gives her and how it makes her writing better. So, she returns for more and this time Rafe confronts her. Rafe is attracted to Emma and so is she, but she doesn't want to accept it that easily.

○Review: Genevieve is excited when she is selected to go on an overnight business trip with Nick Brogan, her rich and handsome boss. Computer programmer Jack, who is secretly in love with Genevieve, tags along for the ride. Unfortunately, Nick has been embezzling money and parachutes out of the plane to escape, leaving Genevieve and Jack stranded on a desert island. Genevieve and Jack are richly written characters with a lot of depth and a great connection. Their romance is sweet and compelling. Nick is the only bad part of the book, as he turns into a cliched villain.

Enter Jessie, A sassy, human female who's job it is to go in with teams to free Female New Species on the task team. Jessie is tough, beautiful and tells it like it is. She is also the daughter of a US Senator who is supportive of New Species. Both she and Justice are instantly attracted to one another.

I need to read a bike book for some of these too. I will read that now...and maybe knock most of these out for next week's item.

We have several other items that we have 4 of, but we can't claim those until the original item from the posts have been claimed and they all have at least one "shoulder" post.
Unfortunately, "Emergency vehicle" was not the best for us, as we'd already claimed that :(
Have a look here to see how we're doing (hopefully that makes more sense than me trying to explain it!):

Or do you just have to keep "substituting" with new books and just get 1 point/item?

I know I'm SOOOOO late to the game, but I really did like this :)

Such a lovely story!
I had kept off from reading this for quite some time... My forays into PNR have not been very favourable, as I need a good/believable story in order to enjoy the romance stuff - in the end, I am a fantasy/supernatural reader first and romance/erotica second!
But this story really positively surprised me! I thought the world and especially mythology was really well-done and I liked the main characters... and then I really liked the naughty bits too ;)
There were a few times when I thought the interplay between the brothers became a bit too overdone and "we're so cool", but mostly I think Ward managed to keep them likable and not too tortured (you can be tortured and not just overcompensate all the time!).
All in all, I really enjoyed this story and will definitely be looking into the next books in the series. :)

Read 1/1/11 & Re-read for me 1/21/13
I just love this book...The first half of this series is fantastic and I just love the couple featured in this book whenever they pop in to the story.
Beth who doesn't know she is a vampire by birth...hasn't transitioned yet and her father who is watching her from a distance asks Wrath, the crankiest, meanest, bad-assed vampire to help her with her transition which is coming soon. He has sworn off humans and relationships with anyone. He is a very strong, biker looking type...He doesn't smile and carries some deep issues about his youth that he doesn't want to face.
We meet Butch for the first time here who is another formidable foe for Wrath, friend of Beth and miserable outcast...He is a cop who just doesn't fit in...He is incredibly unhappy and tries to date and later save Beth from Wrath, whom he thinks is a drug dealer.
Beth and Wrath have instant attraction and despite that they find they are at each others throats until her transition where they both see each other through different eyes. I love how Wrath, as tough as he is, is not afraid to show public affection, is committed to Beth and is so touched when she shows compassion for Rage who returns from a fight with the Lessors in not so good shape.
Love this series....the good and the bad....but this first book will always hold a place near and dear to my heart....I love you Wrath!
Weather: Rain - (Pg 47) "From out of the sky rain started to fall"
Body Parts: Nose - (Pg 40) "The smell of burnt metal, a tangy chemical sting, filled her nose."
Clothing: (Necklace) Platinum chain around his neck - (Pg 261) "Billy shifted uncomfortably, fiddling with his platinum chain around his neck."
Misc.: Bike - (Pg 372) "He was going to go to the training center's gym, get on a recumbent bike, loosen himself up a little."

Since it's my first time playing, I'm struggling a bit with seeing how well each team are doing other than the claimed points...

Just FYI I agree too hard to see with the waiting for the captains to submit. I will be reverting to the old way next round.
Camillia you submitted for bike point using Katya's Tie book. I know she claimed bike there but I want to make sure she didn't read another bike book that would give her points for other items.

Just FYI I agree too hard to see with the waiting for the captains to submit. I will b..."
Well, when I submitted the bike post, she hadn't, but now she has, so I'll go change that and re-post if that's okay?
