Shauna Mckelly (mathyoda) | 25 comments Hi, Everyone!

I just found this group, and it's a great idea. My name is Shauna, and I am from Southern Califonia. I work part time as a tutor/mentor, mostly for adults. I have been a member of Goodreads since June of 2011. I have about 320 books on my TBR list, only about a third of which I own. There are just too many good books out there and not enough time to read them all. I will start at the lowest level and gradually work my way up the mountain. Pike's Peak, here I come!

message 52: by suzi (new)

suzi (mordreg) Hi I'm new :) I have half a closet full of books and I've only read half of them I think. I blame ebooks and my android phone :P So I'm joining so I'll be "forced" to read my physical books. I'm starting slow so I'll be targeting Pike's Peak.

message 53: by Jemidar (new)

Jemidar | 116 comments I'm back because despite reaching the dizzying heights of Mt Vancouver, I still recorded a nett gain of over 100 books to Mt TBR in 2012. Seriously, I think I have a problem!

Anyway, I'm up for Mt Vancouver again even though Bev has sneakily increased the number of books needed to reach its summit :-).

Christine (chrisarrow) Hi all,

I'm signing back up. Looking forward to those buddy reads.

So do I.

message 56: by Mary (new)

Mary Jane | 3 comments This is a great idea! My mountain of books has taken over the apartment! I'm aiming to read 36 of my poor books that have been gathering dust the longest and will go from there. Maybe if I can get a dent in my TBR pile I won't feel so guilty when I bring in new books into the house!

And HAPPY NEW YEAR FOR ALL AUSTRALIAN FRIENDS!!!

message 66: by Hélène (new)

Hélène (hlneb) Hello,
I'm Hélène, from France.
After 2012's fiasco, I don't dare a greater challenge than Pike's Peak but the truth is there's a whole mountain range in front of me and I don't even know where to begin!

message 67: by Hélène (new)

Hélène (hlneb) @Christine : Tyrant is buried somewhere in "Mount Historical Novel" - which I'll have to pass to get to Pike's Peak. So, this is perhaps a beginning...

message 68: by Sylvia (last edited Dec 31, 2012 11:40AM) (new)

Sylvia (sylviahartstra) Hello I'm Sylvia, I joined the challenge for 2012 somewhere half the year. I have a terrible mount of unread books, so many I even can't give the exact number. So I picked some 12 books for Pike's Peak, which I want to read in 2013, but I hope to read more books which are waiting to be read.

message 69: by Brian (new)

Brian | 6 comments My name is Brian, and I'll be climbing Pike's Peak. I'd make Mt. Blanc my starting goal, but I read so many library books throughout the year that I don't think I can read 24 that I already own. Looking forward to sorting through my "own-but-never-read" books and making a list of 12 to post soon.

Hi, Hélène! Just start with a few steps up Pike's Peak and soon you'll get in your climbing rhythm! Hopefully, you'll be able to reach the top and move on to an even bigger mountain!

Lynn (larainey) | 65 comments Hey everyone I'm Lynn. I'm a grad student in library science and I have a mountain range of books too. I am going to aim for Mt. Blanc and hopefully get more in. I look forward to talking with all of you over the next year!

MichelleCH (lalatina) Hi Everyone! Last year I finished Pike's Peak, this year I am upping the challenge to Mt. Blanc- we shall see. I am in the process of organizing my books which hopefully will curb duplicate buying and help me finally get a sense of how many books I do own!

Yes... makes me remember something : "You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
Where are you leading me? ;)

...to the highest peak you can manage. :-)

message 83: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimmr) Hi everyone. I enrolled for Pike's Peak last year and upgraded. I ended up, if I remember correctly, reading about 27 books from Mt TBR. I'll start again with Pike's Peak this year and see how far I get. While I don't own a huge pile of unread books - I more or less read them as I buy them - I'm sure that there are more unread books hanging around here than I think there are.

message 84: by Claire (new)

Claire | 1 comments Hi, I'm Claire from London. I work in a bookstore, so being surrounded by lovely books, and having a staff discount means that my TBR heap is bigger than I'd like. I'm signing up for Pike's Peak because I have to read a lot of new books and proofs for my job. I've not listed many of my TBR on Goodreads but I'll add a new shelf for this challenge. I started yesterday with 'The One-Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared'. Good luck everyone!

message 87: by readmuchrunfar (new)

readmuchrunfar | 42 comments Hi everyone, I'm Miranda from Indiana. I've been looking for a challenge like this for a while! I made good headway last year on my own; I even read a book that had been sitting on that shelf since middle school (I'm 30). But I always do better with an incentive, so here's to summiting!

I'm going for Mt. Ararat. Eeek!

message 88: by Iola (new)

Iola (iola_goulton) | 32 comments I'm Iola, and this is my first Mt TBR Challenge (although I have completed the Goodreads Challenge for the last two years). I review a lot of ARC's so there is a tendency for Mt TBR to pile up, both electronically and in paperback, so hopefully this challenge will give me motivation to start to clear some of that backlog. I've signed for Mt Ararat (48 books), which should clear all the paperbacks and about half of the ebooks.

I like the idea of a Mt TBR shelf - that will make my numbers easier to track!

message 89: by Julianne (new)

Julianne (juliannebenford) | 1 comments Hello! I'm Julianne and I'm aiming for Mt Vancouver. I want to read much more, especially as I've started to be sent books by publishers to review for my book blog. My TBR is 191 at the moment, which probably doesn't sound that much to some of you, but I have little storage space as I live with my parents, and I need to read books so that I can pass the non-keepers on to new homes.

message 90: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 03, 2013 12:55AM) (new)

Greetings from me as well :)
My name is Eugine (pronounced like the Ameriacn/British male name Eugene, but I'm a girl) and am from Korea/Germany. Last year I read 52 books off my TBR shelf which makes up about half of what I read last year.
Because I know I'm going to be busy with moving and starting university and stuff, so I'll start again at Mt. Vancouver - I can still move up later ;)

message 91: by Freda (new)

Freda Mans-Labianca (fredamans) Hi all.
I'm Freda from Freda's Voice! A Canadian Lifestyle blogger who LOVES books and always has my nose in one. I tried sticking my nose to the Kindle, with little effect.... (^_^)
My hobbies are sarcasm, humor and general tom-foolery.
In all seriousness I am a mother of two teens, hence the need for the above hobbies.
I have done the challenge previously, and failed miserably... but I don't back down from a challenge and aim to succeed, even after the mountain grew!! Imagine!?!
Wishing you all the best in your climb! Hope no one needs to be airlifted like I was last year!

message 92: by Karen· (new)

Karen· (kmoll) Sheesh, I almost missed you over here. For some reason I hadn't noticed that there was a new group for 2013.

Nothing like over-ambition: having narrowly missed the 25 target last year, I'm now going for 36.
