The fact that downton abbey is the only great period show atm.
yes there are other period shows, but none like abbey.
I really hope stsrz, cw, abc or someone makes more period dramas. They could for example do ya period dramas like Cinders & Sapphires (At Somerton, #1) by Leila Rasheed .thst way us viewers would get more period on tv, and it would be easier to wait for next season of downton abbey.

Re: winter stomach illness ... last year half of my family threw up on Christmas, and I threw up in a bush on New Year's Eve. XD Hopefully this year that won't happen again. *knocks on wood*

Oda don't shoot me through the computer but I think I am done with Downtown Abby. Season 4 seemed to lose some of it's charm for me and it seemed different and not as enjoyable to watch. I do love period shows though. I just watched Death at Pemberly and really enjoyed it. I used to love the show Lark Rise to Candleford as well - have you watched that one?

Yes, death at pemberly is great.(tho thats a miniseries.its over.Finished) Lard rise to candleford was pretty good.
I actually dident become a downtown fan before season 3,before that I just thought it was meeh, but it grew on me and by season 4 I was a big fan.
I geuss the issue is that (in my mind) most period pieces(that arent jane austen adaptions) are about 60\80 year olds, or they are really boring. Yes,downtown abbey is not golden all the time, but its great pretty much all of the time.
And, dont worry I wount shoot you, I dont care for hunger games, game of thrones or divergent, yet nobody shoots at me. I will gladly return the good will to you. :P

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I still need to finish watching Season 4 of Downton Abby. When does the 5th season start, is it January?

message 358: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
It starts Jan 5th I think Jenny. I don't think I will watch it though.

Oda I was the opposite- I loved the first 2 seasons and thought season 3 was good but did not really like season 4. I found I was having to remind myself to watch the episodes which is never good! p.s. I did not like Divergent either and wonder if I would have loved the Hunger Games had I read it after Chaos Walking. As it was my first dystopian series I think I loved it simply as it was new and fresh.

Haha I have way too many little black dresses. Whenever I go out it's like "Hmm should I wear this black dress or this other black dress?" XD

I'm sorry Jenny! When I'm at home, my younger siblings are always loud in the morning and wake me up, so it's pretty much impossible to sleep in. :P I love them of course, but they can be noisy!

Not my thing either Oda. I prefer nice musicals like My Fair Lady!

message 374: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I've never seen it live, but I do like the musical! I just like musicals, though, I can't think of one I didn't like. I guess Oklahoma wasn't really my favorite.

Oklahoma is quite dark Jenny. I can see why you wouldn't love it.

message 377: by [deleted user] (new)

Ohh, I just thought of another thing that does NOT rock:
- the fact that I have only seen one musical in my life.( I want to see more.)

Love musicals but I see most on the tv Oda!

message 379: by W.J. (last edited Dec 19, 2014 01:47PM) (new)

W.J. Lennox | 48 comments Oda - I love musicals in general, just wish I had the chance to see more live. Last year, I went to see Evita, which was very good. Some of my friends have just been to see Wicked and said it was fab, but I left it too late to get tickets this year. It's also very expensive if you're going as a family.

What a shame you had such a traumatising experience watching Phantom of the Opera. That's one of my favourites, especially the song, The Music of The Night. Have always wanted to see it live as only watched the DVD. Maybe one day.

Heidi- I absolutely love My Fair Lady, practically know the words off by heart, I've seen it so many times. Audrey Hepburn was such an icon, beautiful and so elegant. I have all her movies as I'm a huge fan. Another musical that puts a smile on my face is Calamity Jane with Doris Day. Back in the 90's had a very similar fringed suede jacket that I wore to death. I definitely had an 'interesting' fashion sense back then, cringe!

message 380: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Musicals I have seen live: Oklahoma, The Lion King, Wicked, Mamma Mia, Mary Poppins, High School Musical (took my oldest to see it when she was 9, and it was surprisingly good!) Annie, Bring It On...I think that's it.

All were good, with Oklahoma being my least favorite. I think my fave was the Lion King.

message 381: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Hahaha Wendy! Love the info about your jacket. I own My Fair lady and love it to pieces

message 382: by W.J. (new)

W.J. Lennox | 48 comments Jenny - Wow! That's an impressive list. Would love to see Mamma Mia live. They're such feel good songs, you can't help joining in.

Oda - After your story about Phantom, you reminded me of the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The character of the child catcher really terrified me when I was little, and even when I watch it now, he still creeps me out!

- the fact that peter Jackson in interviews says he is not sure what he will do next¨.
I cant tell you what you will do next , TINTIN 2!
you said after the hobbit tintin would be a priority, so..get on With it. the first one was a masterpiece, and getting the People baxck shouldent be any problem, the audience loved it too.

message 387: by [deleted user] (new)

Heidi (Yup. Still here.) wrote: "I don't even know what Tintin is Oda! Sorry! I am no help."

Tintin, a Comic book from 1900, a tv series, as well as a film from 2010(Jackson produced, spielberg directed.)http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0983193/?...

message 388: by W.J. (last edited Jan 04, 2015 07:08AM) (new)

W.J. Lennox | 48 comments Oda- I saw the first Tintin film when it came out and watched it again when it was repeated over Christmas on TV. Really good :) Peter Jackson should definitely be making a sequel. And once he's finished that, if he's still stuck for his next epic fantasy film, tell him to knock on my door ;) (I wish!)

message 389: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Ahhh! I must have have missed it when it came out Oda. At least Peter didn't say he would never do a sequel! Look on the positive side :)

Yes,that is true. A sequel is slated for 2016 hoping they start working on it soon.

message 391: by Becky (new)

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments My family really enjoyed Tintin. We've been a bit disappointed with The Hobbit (it should have been one movie, in my opinion) but think that Tintin 2 would be great. Maybe if I hadn't actually read The Hobbit, I would have liked it better.

message 392: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Becky I fell asleep the first time I watched the Hobbit and agree it seems drawn out (at the most it should have been 2 movies). Now that HBO has added HBO Go to Roku sets I just tried watching it again last night and got about 2 hours into it. I liked it better than the first time and will finish it and the second movies since HBO has that one as well BUT still think it is too drawn out. The book was super short so I don't understand the need for 3 movies except for financial gain.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments UGH--THIS DAY!!

message 394: by W.J. (new)

W.J. Lennox | 48 comments Becky/Heidi - Totally agree, just saw The Battle of the Five Armies the other day and had mixed feelings about it. It was all the things that you'd expect from a Peter Jackson film and tied in nicely at the end with the LORT, but they really spun it out and deviated a fair bit from the original storyline/ characters. Don't get me wrong the film was still epic in its own way and I did enjoy it, but I still much prefer the original book. - Wendy

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Its AWFUL outside!!

Quick recap of my day: Grandmother died (actually, this happened yesterday, but dealing with all of it today), snowstorm (horrible one!), Darryl's truck breaks down (of course, we need it, there's a SNOWSTORM!) and my sister-in-law's cat is in heat again and driving me nuts!

But, its mostly okay now. Went out in this crazy weather to my parent's house and used their garage, then journeyed to the parts store, but truck is now fixed! And everyone is home safe and sound. I'm enjoying some hot soup in my PJs. So its all good :)

message 398: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Oh, I was also having technical issues with Goodreads, my browser was giving me "your connection is not secure" mumbo, jumbo, but thankfully, I was able to fix it.

(Not being able to get onto Goodreads?? TORTURE!)

message 400: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Thank you Heidi :)

Its sad news, I will miss her, but it wasn't unexpected. She was going to be 103 years old next week! So she lived a long, happy life :) And she passed peacefully in her sleep, so that was good too.
