This is not The Haters Club You're Looking For discussion
I hate how this object is not mine.

Not as cool as a snail lamp, but it'll do.

Look, here I am. WANTING.

I used to live in this townhouse that had lots of snails living in the boxwoods around my porch. I used to smoke back then :) and I would sit out there and watch them. I fell in love. I loved to touch an antenna and watch it retract and then freeze until the coast was clear. There were little teeny, tiny ones, too. SO CUTE!

Yes, there were various sizes, but some were little like this!

There are about 7 other things I would like to add to this... but It would just be obnoxious so.
Easily within your grasp, Harry.

Sarah,
Buy yourself that lamp. I'm sure you deserve it!
It's irresponsible for me to spend $200 on a lamp right now. Really. I just went to Chicago and I'm going to New York, soon (!) so I'm not exactly depriving myself, lately. I'll be fine.

When I really want something but don't feel like it's practical I wait a couple of days to see if it's still haunting me. If you are still coveting that snail lamp by the end of the week I say you should buy it. It's the kind of thing that disappears, then you keep looking for something similar but never find it.

Those lamps are butt-ugly, Montambo. For God sake. If someone were giving them to you, or they were on for 50 cents at a yard sale, I'd say have your fun. But I'm sorry, unlike Gretchen I cannot support you in this. I don't care if you're coveting that lamp by the end of your life. Do. Not. Buy it.

you use lamps for yeeeeeeeaaaaars! think of all the things you'll be spending money on that are dispensable in the amount of time you'll own that lamp.
and yes, you may look at it one day and say - eggads but in the meantime, enjoy! Those HUGE wooden kitchen utensils that hang on walls are "in vogue" again - maybe the snail lamp will have a 2nd run after a 10 or 20 year break.
I'm not saying buy it now - I'm saying when it goes on sale, buy a few less coffee's or something and buy it.
then take a picture of you french kissing it and send it to Doni.

you want it to look like a beetle and not a scarab tho right? (i know same thing but "scarabs" tend to be bulky). I LOVE looking for jewelry.

Your mom!
Your mom!

When I lived in China, my ("very wealthy") neighbors wouldn't put their heat on at 32 BLOODY DEGREES. Turning on the kitchen light at night? There's already an anemic glow seeping in from the single bulb out there in the living room. Yes, the Chinese have rediscovered conspicuous consumption in the past decade, but I doubt they'll ever subscribe to impulse buying. Spending money on valuable articles is one thing; spending money on things of no value is quite another. And considering the Chinese typically buy their homes and apartments with 100% down payments ... well, I think that at this juncture we Americans could possibly learn just a tiny bit from them, NO?
Montambo (and everyone else on this forum): You are herewith only allowed to buy funny-tacky crap when the price is incredibly right. Don't make me come over and smack some unAmerican intelligence into you. Because I will by God do it.
Doni: Not funny or tacky. Just beautiful.
Also, I apologize for that "your mom." I didn't finish. I meant, "Your mom raised you to hate beautiful things. Pity."

Too true. I don't think your in-laws will be back any time, soon, though.
What objects do YOU want, Haters?
