What objects do YOU want, Haters?

Reads with Scotch my current one isn't functioning up to par, I launched Mumbles beer weeks ago, I fear it has "landed" in the hands of hoodlums.

Not as cool as a snail lamp, but it'll do.

Reads with Scotch The ONLY thing cool about the snail lamp was the picture... you can zoom around it and stuff, without it getting blurry, so you can see all the details.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Look, here I am. WANTING.

Reads with Scotch huh? i don't see anything but a red (x)

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Can you see this one, Nick?

Reads with Scotch must be blocked... forbidden title or word or something

Reads with Scotch what is with you and snails

I used to live in this townhouse that had lots of snails living in the boxwoods around my porch. I used to smoke back then :) and I would sit out there and watch them. I fell in love. I loved to touch an antenna and watch it retract and then freeze until the coast was clear. There were little teeny, tiny ones, too. SO CUTE!

Yes, there were various sizes, but some were little like this!

Reads with Scotch I can't believe I never realized how totally awesome snails were in the past. I think I'll start loving snails too. Escargot is pretty good too you know.

Easily within your grasp, Harry.

smetchie | 5729 comments Now I'm coveting that lamp too. Snails ARE totally awesome. (and so is escargot).

Reads with Scotch I was kidding about escargot. Icky!

message 22: by Donitello (new)

Donitello You love snails, so you want this.

Once I saw a clock with a crucified Christ on the face.

message 23: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 5729 comments Ecargot is DELICIOUS not icky. yum yum.

message 25: by Malbadeen (new)

Malbadeen Sarah - I hate that you want that lamp! and I hate that but I also hate that you wont just buy it for yourself if you want it so bad. It's apx 2 jeans worth of spending. and I bet it will be on sale pretty soon, they don't exactly look like they're flying off the shelf (or oozing off it for that matter).

message 26: by Malbadeen (new)

Malbadeen I wish I had a small/gold beetle on a necklace. Someone find it, please, please, please.

smetchie | 5729 comments Marie,

or did you mean this kind of beetle :)

Sarah,
Buy yourself that lamp. I'm sure you deserve it!

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

It's irresponsible for me to spend $200 on a lamp right now. Really. I just went to Chicago and I'm going to New York, soon (!) so I'm not exactly depriving myself, lately. I'll be fine.

message 29: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 5729 comments My friend recently spent $200 (each!) on a pair of lamps and I thought that was silly. But they were just normal lamps....no mollusks anywhere!

When I really want something but don't feel like it's practical I wait a couple of days to see if it's still haunting me. If you are still coveting that snail lamp by the end of the week I say you should buy it. It's the kind of thing that disappears, then you keep looking for something similar but never find it.

message 31: by Donitello (new)

Donitello You know, just because something looks like something cool doesn't mean IT'S cool.

Those lamps are butt-ugly, Montambo. For God sake. If someone were giving them to you, or they were on for 50 cents at a yard sale, I'd say have your fun. But I'm sorry, unlike Gretchen I cannot support you in this. I don't care if you're coveting that lamp by the end of your life. Do. Not. Buy it.

message 32: by Malbadeen (new)

Malbadeen but Doni - how do you feel about the lamps?

you use lamps for yeeeeeeeaaaaars! think of all the things you'll be spending money on that are dispensable in the amount of time you'll own that lamp.

and yes, you may look at it one day and say - eggads but in the meantime, enjoy! Those HUGE wooden kitchen utensils that hang on walls are "in vogue" again - maybe the snail lamp will have a 2nd run after a 10 or 20 year break.

I'm not saying buy it now - I'm saying when it goes on sale, buy a few less coffee's or something and buy it.

then take a picture of you french kissing it and send it to Doni.

message 33: by Malbadeen (new)

Malbadeen Gretchen - kinda - sorta. I'm looking for something a little more delicate/maybe antique-y but that's close.

message 34: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 5729 comments Marie,
you want it to look like a beetle and not a scarab tho right? (i know same thing but "scarabs" tend to be bulky). I LOVE looking for jewelry.

message 35: by Tom (new)

Tom Foolery (tomfoolery) Nick already posted a picture of what i want in the Amy Crackhouse thread.

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

Those lamps are butt-ugly, Montambo.

Your mom!

message 37: by Donitello (last edited Feb 23, 2009 01:10PM) (new)

Donitello Marie: You are an enabler. Montambo: Some people you can't talk to. I am deeply pained to see that you are one of them.

message 38: by Donitello (new)

Donitello And yes, those huge wooden utensils are in vogue again, but not with anyone who's in any way intelligent.

When I lived in China, my ("very wealthy") neighbors wouldn't put their heat on at 32 BLOODY DEGREES. Turning on the kitchen light at night? There's already an anemic glow seeping in from the single bulb out there in the living room. Yes, the Chinese have rediscovered conspicuous consumption in the past decade, but I doubt they'll ever subscribe to impulse buying. Spending money on valuable articles is one thing; spending money on things of no value is quite another. And considering the Chinese typically buy their homes and apartments with 100% down payments ... well, I think that at this juncture we Americans could possibly learn just a tiny bit from them, NO?

Montambo (and everyone else on this forum): You are herewith only allowed to buy funny-tacky crap when the price is incredibly right. Don't make me come over and smack some unAmerican intelligence into you. Because I will by God do it.

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

Doni: Not funny or tacky. Just beautiful.

Also, I apologize for that "your mom." I didn't finish. I meant, "Your mom raised you to hate beautiful things. Pity."

:)

message 40: by Donitello (new)

Donitello Hee hee!

message 41: by Malbadeen (new)

Malbadeen Doni - good thing you don't come across as pompous or anything. That would be so embarrassing.

message 42: by smetchie (last edited Feb 23, 2009 02:17PM) (new)

smetchie | 5729 comments This guy is pompous. Maybe you know him?

message 43: by Malbadeen (new)

Malbadeen you mean she's like me? oh, in that case...she's just fine.

message 44: by Malbadeen (new)

Malbadeen don't know Mr. Pompous - and shoot, me already dating someone!

message 45: by Donitello (new)

Donitello Oh. Well, actually it would. Didn't know that was happening. Sorry.

message 46: by Donitello (new)

Donitello Yes, this may be an inherent incongruity of loving hate. I guess no one ever said it would be easy.

message 47: by Donitello (new)

Donitello But God knows it's worth it. Can't we all just hate along?

message 48: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 5729 comments I'm trying to limit my hate to Mr. Pompous to this group...tho I did cross threads. But it may not be enough. I may have to go hate him directly....again. I'm getting addicted.

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

Too true. I don't think your in-laws will be back any time, soon, though.
