Kristina
I think I have finally found what I want to do for the 50 point task.

I Was A Non-blonde Cheerleader by Kieran Scott and under her Pen Name, The V Club by Kate Brian

message 4403: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (affie) | 371 comments Question about the 50 pt task: Do we have to read one by the author, and one written under their pen name? That's the way it sounds to me, but I thought I would double check. So, instead of reading 2 by Dean Koontz, it would be one under his name, and one under a pen name?
Thanks in advance for the clarification!
And , that list was very helpful! Thanks!!

Hey, that is who I am am going to do, except I am going to do Megan Meade's Guide to the McGowan Boys under Kate Brian instead. She is one of my favorite YA authors... though I have only read her under Kate Brian, not under Kieran Scott.

Madeline | 293 comments For the 50 point does the author have to be currently using the pseudonym? I've found a couple off my tbr list that were originally published under a pseudonym and then re-published under their true name once the author became popular.

There was also some question as to whether previously used books/books read outside the challenge but during the time period could be used for this task - I'm going to make a compromise...one book can be one that you have claimed points for/read during the challenge that didn't fit BUT the other has to have been read after the challenge was posted - or obviously you can read both books now

Sophie Kinsella and Madeleine Wickham are the same person? Maybe I will read one from each of them instead then.

message 4418: by Avory (new)

Avory Faucette (avoryfaucette) The 50 point task is an interesting idea. I would be most grateful though, if anyone is able to unearth a writer who uses two names to write and doesn't write genre fiction (historical is ok). I hate romance and mystery, and it seems those are the most common genres for which someone take another name.

message 4419: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Judith - Don't know if you'd be interested, but I was looking at Lemony Snicket/Daniel Handler.

Yes, Madeleine Wickham is her real name. I'm not sure how many books she has out under that name, but I think there are several more than she has written as Kinsella (Cocktails for Three is the one I have, but I think there are at least 5 or 6 more)

message 4422: by Steph (new)

message 4429: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) Yeah... I have never read anything under Kieran Scott, but I love her series Private. I don't understand why you would write in the same genre under both you pen name and your real name... I mean I could understand if their is an author known for fluffy romance and then wants to write something that will be taken seriously... but why write for two authors all in YA?

Now I need to just go read a Barbara Michaels book...of course I am a little disappointed because she stopped publishing YEARS ago and I have read everything she has written already. I'll see what i have on my bookshelves in my mothers house to see if I have any I can reread. (This would be the first time rereading a book for this challenge).

April (booksandwine) | 954 comments Judith, if you enjoy classics:
Mark Twain was a pseudonym for Samuel L. Clemens
George Orwell was the pseudonym of Eric Arthur Blair
Lewis Carrol was a pseudonym for Charles Dodgson
George Eliot was Mary Ann Evans' pseudonym
For Sense and Sensablity Jane Austen used the pseudonym "A Lady"
Karen Blixen wrote the very successful Out of Africa under the pen name Isak Dinesen
The Bronte sisters first published their works under the pen names Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell.
Also, Voltaire was a penname, his real name was François-Marie Arouet.

Kate (kathrynlouwca) This 50 point challenge is crazy (in a good way)!!! I never knew so many authors had pseudonyms. I mean, Janet Evanovich? Isaac Asimov? Barbara Delinsky? Some of these people are rather well known. That is so crazy. Would reading Sense and Sensibility work for this task since it was published under "A Lady"? This is so informative!

Angela | 1934 comments I just looked up Steffie Hall and she does not have any books solo from Janet Evanovich (both names are listed on the books).
I have found this to be the case with a couple of authors... I am assuming that the books we read would not be able to have both names as authors on the book.
