Introductions!
Welcome newbies. You'll love Goodreads, make lots of friends AND get lots lots of great recommendations. I found myself counting on this group before picking up my next read.Hi Lisa, I'm from Middleburg, FL. We've matched a couple favorites and can't wait to catch some of your authors. I'm reading OUTLANDER series by Diana Gabaldon right now and I'm in awe!
They just opened a thread for everyone to nominate the author of the month for Jan. I nominated Diana Gabaldon. Voting begins in a week. Wanted to let everyone know in case you wanted to vote for her to get it. ;) The link is below for the thread in case you want to nominate someone else. http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4...
Hi Crazy4more, I've started Outlander about 3 times, for some reason I'm having a hard time with it, it's still #1 in my TBR pile. one of these days I'll finish it..
Hello! Thought I'd introduce myself since I'm pretty new around here. I've been reading since first grade, and my mom says that I started reading sci fi/fantasy almost right away. In the past few years my love for fantasy has moved into paranormal romance. Some of my favorite authors are Nalini Singh, Sharon Lee/Steve Miller, Susan Sizemore, Marjorie Liu and Lynn Viehl. I am curretnly reading the Vampire Academy by Richelle Read. I'm looking forward to finding other great reads here on these forums.

Hi everyone my name is Amy. i am obsessed with my Nook and have over 80 vampire/paranormal romance books on it. Like most, I got addicted on everything paranormal after reading the Twilight series. My favorites are Fever series, House of night, BDB, Anita Blake Sookie, Riley Jensen. I would love to share books with other nook users!!!
Amyk wrote: "Hi everyone my name is Amy. i am obsessed with my Nook and have over 80 vampire/paranormal romance books on it. Like most, I got addicted on everything paranormal after reading the Twilight series..."Welcome Have you read night Huntress Check it out by Jeanine Frost
Ursula wrote: "Hello Everybody, I'm Ursula and I love Paranormal Romance. Glad to be here!"Welcome So what are you reading
Hi, I'm new to paranormal romance; at least I've just read my first book specifically labeled as as belonging to the genre: In the Dark of Dreams by Margorie M. Liu. I'm sure I've read others without knowing -- To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis, maybe? From the group's topics, it's clear this is a broad category. I'm look forward to learning more and discovering good books!
Hi I just joined the group today. My name is Heidi..and discovered the paranormal about a year or two ago...when I read Twilight thinking I would hate it...and LOVED it!! And have been hooked to vamps and other paranormal creatures since.
I love Twilight (team Edward-book only as Robert Pattison doesn't do it for me), Sookie Stackhouse (have always loved Eric and then I saw who played him on True Blood and now have an unhealthy obsession for the man) and the Black Dagger Brotherhood (Rhage and V are my favs).
I'm looking forward to having a group of people I can share my new obsessions with and look forward to getting to know everyone.
I have noticed that people are introducing themselves here, so I figured that I should as well. I joined about a week ago and I realize that I haven't read as much paranormal romance as I thought. I see people talking about a lot of series I've never head of, which is good because part of the reason I joined was for recommendations. Anyway, my name is Vanessa, I really enjoy reading about Vampires, which I thought I would hate until I read Twilight since all my friends said it was awesome. I picked it up on hot topic and read the back and thought I wouldn't be interested, after about a month of everyone talking about it though I read it and loved the story line (not so much the writing). I've also read many Dresden Files books and the Harry Potter series (which imo is very well written). I know some of that is considered urban fantasy.
I don't think that books about aliens or demons and angels would interest me, but all the other topics I've seen referenced seem to. I also really enjoy reading series, but it bothers me to read them out of order. I just started the Sookie Stackhouse series, it seems a bit like Twilight to me, I wonder if SM read that before writing the Twilight series.
I hope to make some new book loving friends and get lots of great recommendations from being a part of this group.

awhile back but after reading
, i couldn't bring myself to read anything else by stephenie meyer for awhile. but a friend told me that it was really good, that i just had to get past the first couple of chapters and i'd love it...and i did! and i just read somewhere that there are going to be two more to follow it. anyway, i'm pretty new to goodreads, as well, and although i'm more of a lurker and don't usually post anything, your comment hit home with me, so i thought i'd say hi and welcome and all that.

As for thinking that you won't like the books about aliens and demons etc...you won't know until you try...I never thought I'd like vampires and I love them now. I haven't read that stuff yet either but I plan to try it and keep an open mind:)

"I'm kind of a lurker too, I might have to give The Host a try, I didn't know it was going to be part of a series. The whole idea of aliens freaks me out a bit so that's why I am a little hesitant to read them.

Do you know how many books there are supposed to be? It's just in the first few pages I found Sookie kind of annoying, but I'm starting to get curious about what's going on, I've only read like 30 pages so I know I don't have room to talk =) I'm sure I'll become addicted to the series soon enough =)
Thanks for your replies guys =)

Sookie is annoying in the begining but it does get better. And the thing with the Sookie series is that there will be books in it that you love and some that are just ok...but the ones that I love might be the ones you think are just ok...everybody is different. I love Eric so 4 & 9 are my favs:) Almost everyone I know loves 10...and that's my least favorite of the whole series...
Heidi wrote: "The new one in May is the 11th and Charlaine Harris Is contracted for at least 2 more but she doesn't have a number in mind yet."I'll have to let you know what I think of them. Not sure what I think of jumping into a series that isn't done yet. Not that I haven't done that before. Plus I wanted to read the books before I watched the show. Also there is a book (I think it's after the 5th book) of short stories that also has another short story that comes after book 7 of the Dresden Files (I've read up to book 6), so that's another reason I started this series now. I'm totally neurotic when it comes to reading books out of order, even obscure short stories. Maybe it's kind of crazy but one of the things I love about Goodreads, so much easier to track series and obscure titles. =)
Hey im Chelsea I just joined the group, Im 18 years old and im a big time reader :D I even collect books :D
Hello Everybody! My Name's Ian and I live in England. By day I work in a shop and by night I write horror fiction.
What do you mean I'm in the wrong group? Please, bear with me a moment. My daughter asked me if it was possible to write something was wasn't so gross and icky. She's my daughter so of course I said I'll have a go. Do you mean like that Twilight nonsense? She's team Jacob (Whatever that means)
Well, I'm into my second week of writing and... I'm really enjoying it! How weird is that? Anyway, I thought I'd better brush up on the genre and ask for a few recommendations. I've started on Charlaine Harris's Dead series, after that I'll read the Twilight books and after that? I'll let you know.
Anyway, it's good to be here and apologies for the rambling first post.

There is hardly anything that is the same as the books in True Blood...it's a VERY loose interpretation of the books. I'm anal about reading the books in order to:)

Welcome...the vampires are pretty addicting...be prepared:) The Charlaine Harris series and Twilight are both have a way of pulling you in and leaving you wanting more.
@Ian I agree with Heidi, Vampires are WAY addicting, once you start reading one book about vampires you want to read more. It definitely "sucks" you in =)
Ian, I have one thing to say to youBlack Dagger Brotherhood
Enjoy (but I wouldn't recommend them for your daughter if she's in her early teens) ;)
Welcome Jessica. You have quite the list there. I don't have any recs for you since I am new to the genre myself but I can't wait to get my fix either =)
I do like a book that can make me laugh when the time is right. I'll have to add all your bold ones to my tbr list. Thanks =) I don't think I've read anything PNR that you haven't, except maybe vampire diaries, and I don't think the writing is that excellent even though the stories aren't bad. The show is good though =) And though it's not PNR Harry Potter is a good read.

I'm Juana Duran and I love books. My parents don't get it though. When ever I am at home I always have to have a book in hand no matter what. I also like going to the library, listening to music, and getting on the computer.
