Frances (mothindarkness) Robin,

I'm still here, hanging in, thanks. Just hip deep in blog tours, edits and new manuscripts. :-)

I'm only just now starting, Moon Called, by Patty Briggs. I wish I had more time to sit down and truly enjoy it. As it stands I'm catching up on my reading in little fits and starts.

Still having fun though. ;-)

Are you editing your work? That 's good but it is also frutrating to keep reworking things that are completed.
I put off my rewrites all the time then I get good and pissed and decide it is time to face it.
I think reading is such an escape for me too. I am sad when I can't read nothing really comes close to replacing it expect maybe a great movie

Natalie | 4 comments Hi,

I am new to this group my name is Natalie. I have joined this group in hopes of learning about new books to read. I thought that joining a group will help me find more to read talking with others, and possible disussing the books I've read with others!!

I started read again with the Sookie Stackhouse Series, BEFORE True Blood(that show really upsets me) came out.

I love reading story's of the woman/girls saving the day with the stubborn and I can do it myself attitude(reminds me of myself) lol. Sometimes I like romance too, but there better be a girl/woman who can kick butt in the story. I can’t stand the whiny, please help me girls/woman stories. I've noticed with the PR/ Urban Fantasy stories most of them are not. I also read a lot YA Fantasy books!!! There are some REALLY good ones out there. I recent read a series from S.L Naeole(hope I spelled that right), that was so well written and amazingly done.

I use to read/write when I was younger and lost track of that when I went to college. I love to read, and I tend to read the books that movies were made from. They are always better! Like the Princess Bride, one of my favorites!!!

Anyways, I look forward to chatting with all of you and learning about more books.

Hi Natalie! Welcome. Have you read Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake books. If not, you might injoy her character. :O)

message 367: by EowynRN (new)

EowynRN | 121 comments I suppose I should write an intro. I've been lurking here for a while, posting for a couple months. my name is Erica, and I'm 29 from Minnesota. I have a 2 yr old and one on the way in January. I stay home during the day and go to nursing school nights/weekends, and should hopefully have my RN in June!

I adore my nook, and it's the best thing for my reading life ever. If you're a mom, get one. It's soooo much easier to put the book down and pick it back up when you are chasing a 2 yr old around.

My gateway drug to PNR was Twilight, which lead to Sookie Stackhouse (so much better) then to Lyndsay Sands, and pretty much every other vampire series out there. I've since expanded my horizons to wolves, witches, fairies, demons, succubus and all the other good forms of PNR.

I often spend afternoon nap time deciding if I should read nursing stuff or a romance. Today, finishing Styx's Storm won out. ;)

Hope to get to know some of you more!
Erica

Oh I read them. It was good until the fourth book when it became too sexual for me. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind a little romance, but that was just pointless sex. Kind of made me feel dirty...lol But at first I love the character, and still think she is tough and exciting. I just couldn’t stand all the random acts of spontaneous sex. Plus she was driving me nuts with, "am I bad for sleeping with all these men" moments. Made me question her character, but hey we all go through it. Figuring out who we really are, it just got old for me. I think I stopped reading at the 15th or 16th book of that series. I have to finish a book I purchased no matter how much I couldn’t stand it, hehe.

You are right on the type of characters I like though Janai. Some of my favorite writers are Karen Chance, Barb Hendee, Charlene Harris,
Karen Marie Moning, Vicki Pettersson, Rachel Caine, Julie Kagawa, Richelle Mead, Chloe Neill, Kim Harrison, Jenna Black, Jaye Wells, Jeaniene Frost, Nalini Singh(Guild Hunter), and Ilona Andrews just to name a few.

Let me know if you have any other suggestions!! Thank you!!!

Natalie

message 374: by Keri (new)

Keri | 158 comments Welcome to the group, Natalie!

If you like PNR books that have a sense of humor in them you've GOT to read The Magnus Pack series and the Pride series by Shelly Laurenston. Her Dragon Kin series (which she wrote under the name of G.A.Aiken) will also have also make you LYAO. She's a great author, one of my favorites.
Another really good PNR author is Karen Marie Moning. Her Fever series is REALLY good. Just a warning though, the last book doesn't come out till Jan '11 so you'll probably want to start her Highlander series which tie into her Fever series and are also good (the first Highlander book drags a bit so don't give up on the series just by reading that first book!)

Wan (wanwaddell) | 195 comments Hello everyone, my name is Wan. I’m 42 years old, originally from Thailand, moved to the US, moved again to the UK and now back in the US. I’ve been living in southern Maryland for about 10 years now. I have an 8 year-old son, the love of my life. I’m a Program Analyst working for the US Navy. My job is routine and boring at times that’s why I love to get lost in books.

I'm new to the group but not to the genre, when I was young I was a Sci-Fi junkie. And like many of us here, I was fascinated by Mythology and the likes. Although, I love to read and can read pretty much everything, but found my passion in Paranormal and Fantasy. I peeked at the group’s bookshelf and shiver. It looks very promising.

My most favorite authors at all time are Diana Gabaldon (forever #1) and Karen Marie Moning (a very close 2nd). I also like Stephanie Meyer and Suzanne Collins. My new found love is the illustrator, Brian Froud. His Faerie books are amazing.

I’m now on first book of Lords of the Underworld Series by Gena Showalter, which looks very promising & I hope it delivers.

Happy Reading!!

I am also a fan of paranormal romance, having read the Twilight series and now moving towards the Night World series, Vampire Diaries, and House of Night series. I have been part of this group for a while, but I felt that I should be jumping in.

Keri | 158 comments Wan,

I read the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon when I was in high school and LOVED them. She's really good. Would LOVE to find my own Jamie Frasier one day ....sigh....
Karen Marie Moning's Fever series is REALLY addictive and great.....but the cliffhangers........WTF! Can't believe she left us hanging like that until Jan 18!
Those are 2 of my favorite authors also. Shelly Laurenston is another.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!! I think I've read over 15 books since I joined. I am enjoying them all!!

Trina: I hope one day I get to read one of your books. I have a friend at work who I got hooked on Sookie Stackhouse series and now she is writing too. I read a lot of her story's and give her suggestions sometimes. I just enjoy reading. I read books that are so amazingly written that it intimidates me to even attempt to write. I use to write a lot in high school, I wish I kept it up.

I am going to look in to Shelly Laurenston now. Thanks guys!!! Gosh, I feel like its christmas, so many books to read now.

Denise (akaurora) | 59 comments Karen Moning will be on your favorites list after reading her FEVER series and her Highlander books. She is a great PNR writer too. My all time favorite vamp. series is by Jeaniene Frost Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost I call it the Cat and Bones series.

Also another good one is Storm Born (Dark Swan, #1) by Richelle Mead a 2 book series by Richelle Mead.

HAPPY READING and welcome aboard.

Donna (BLHmistress) (BLHmistress) | 16 comments I have 2 of her Highlander series they are on my to read list so her Fever series is good to?

message 391: by Denise (new)

Denise (akaurora) | 59 comments It is REALLY good. There is a thin link to the Highlander series, you understand about the history, the fae, the guardians, the seelie and unseelie and the thinning of the curtain between the mortal world and the fae. Those are all covered in the Highlander series and further covered in the Fever series.
My favorite Highlander books are
The Dark Highlander The Dark Highlander (Highlander, #5) by Karen Marie Moning
Kiss of the Highlander Kiss of the Highlander (Highlander, #4) by Karen Marie Moning and Spell of the HighlanderSpell of the Highlander Spell of the Highlander (Highlander, #7) by Karen Marie Moning
This last one is the last in the series of her highlander books and is good to read before the Fever series but not required. Incidentally, they are all about the MacKeltar men (3 of them) who protect sacred relics of the Fae. Their nephew, Christian is in the Fever books.. there's a link for you.

Donna (BLHmistress) (BLHmistress) | 16 comments Thanks I was thinking about doing some shopping on Amazon this weekend , you just made it easier for me :)

message 393: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Valiukas (joannevaliukas) | 8 comments Hello,
I've been around for a little while now but thought that it was about time that I introduced myself here. I am an avid reader of paranormal fantasy with a romantic twist and read anything and everything that I can get my hands on. Had some trouble last year because nothing was satisfying me, even things by my favourite authors. I'm a big believer that authors owe their best to their readers, let's face it...without us, they might still be writers but who knows about it, right?
Well, because of this frustration, I decided to try my hand at writing my own book, a book that satisfies in every way and doesn't ignore the hard issues or change the rules partway through or has fantastical things happen, just because. I like to give reasons for the things that happen in my books.
I believe that thing that makes me a better writer is that first and foremost...I am a reader and will always be.
So hi.

Jo

Thanks Theresa, so gorgeous of you to say that. It so tickles my fancy having someone halfway around the world reading and loving my story. As a writer, I always prefer the recommendation of people I don't know because...it kind of legitimises me. So thank you.
