Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Welcome Laura. I like all kinds of paranormal books. My favorite are shifters, especially dragons and bears. But I really love all paranormal type books. I have read some great books about angels, fae, vampires, ghosts, and much more. Tell us some more about your new book. If you have a website I'd love to visit it.

Gaia Di Lorenzo Hi,
I am new I love the genres Fantasy / Paranormal Romance/ Urban Fantasy/ Werewolves. I am a slow reader thou so I can't take part in challenges.

message 2255: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments It doesn't matter how slow you read. It's all about the love of books. And challenges are just for the fun of it. The real reason for this site is to meet others who love books as much as we do. You can get some great recommendations for authors and books here. You also will meet some really great people. Welcome, it's good to have new readers here.

No Elizabeth--the real reason for this particular group is--to find MORE BOOKS. I need more books, more books and yes, more books. (Ignore the bed loaded down with books, I don't really sleep there and the pillow with my hair on it doesn't mean a thing.)

message 2257: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments LOL I get it. I'm addicted to books too. I have so many books in my Kindle library that I haven't read yet. But I can't pass on a book by an author I enjoy. I am also a member of Bookbub. It's free, and you just put in the type of books you like and they send you a daily email listing books that are low priced or free. It's a great place.

Have you check out freebooksy.com Elizabeth? Again, you pick out your fav book types and they send you a daily (or weekly or whatever) list of all books in those genres that are free that day (or week) There is also Bargainbooksy.com, if you haven't found it yet. (Yes, I do get all three every single day. And while I don't get a book every day, it's about 4 days out of 7 I get at least one)

I hadn't even heard of those two sites. Thanks for the heads up. I'll check them out right away. Not that I don't already have so many books to read, but you can never have too many books LOL.

Amy*skye.rhyme | 58 comments Hi, my name's Amy. I'm always reading at least a couple books at any time. PNR has been what I've read for years, but now I'm realizing I've also read a lot of UF that I've been labeling as pnr, still unsure exactly how to tell the difference between the two. I LOVE giving book recommendations and getting them too! I enjoy other genres as well, mostly Romantic-suspense, Psychic thrillers, Cops, Biker/bratva romance, and Menage.

My favorite plots/topics are ANYTHING with a psychic cop, pnr/uf with a quirky heroine and her monster sidekick or sarcastic friend, and I love a good shifter romance, interspecies politics or forbidden matings between the different paranormal groups (fae, witch, demon, etc).

*** My 5 FAVORITE Series lately are:

Touch the Dark (Cassandra Palmer, #1) by Karen Chance Touch the Dark by Karen Chance

Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop Written in Red by Anne Bishop

Burn (Dark in You, #1) by Suzanne Wright Burn by Suzanne Wright

Abducting Abby (Dragon Lords of Valdier, #1) by S.E. Smith Abducting Abby by S.E. Smith (sfr I suppose, but reads like pnr to me)

Death Becomes Her (The Kurtherian Gambit, #1) by Michael Anderle Death Becomes Her by Michael Anderle

(ALL the Kurtherian Gambit books are addictive...Bethany Anne and the Queen's Bitches are the best characters EVER !!!)

Welcome Amy*skye.rhyme

You might want to check out Mercedes Lackey she writes some UF as well as regular high fantasy.

Mall Purchase Night by Rick Cook and his The Wiz Biz series are good. Both are U.F. but the first one is a standalone while the second is a series. And, if you are into computers, the second one will turn into a major love affair. The H is a Silicon Valley Master Hacker who gets shanghaied to a world of magic. And the rest, as they say, is history. Unfortunately Mr. Cook hasn't published a new book since 2000, so we have to make do with what Wiz books there are.

Adrian Maudling | 2 comments HI my name is Adrian but I answer to Ade, Adie, A or anything really.
I was originally from London but now reside in Norfolk.
I love Fantasy and Science Fiction and I am an honorary geek and newbie Cosplayer
Over the years I played self created modern fantasy games based around D&D rules and realised we were creating stories each time we played.
I eventually decided to tweak the stories and characters to make a hopefully readable story and my first book is out Friday
if you want to know more or just chat then give me a shout
Happy reading everyone ( and Happy Christmas as it's getting closer and has invaded everywhere.)

message 2266: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Welcome Adrian. Most authors will offer a website where people can view their work. I'd love to see yours if you have one. And a very merry Christmas and New Year to you and yours.

message 2268: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Welcome Acin. In my opinion, if the romantic relationship is the central part of the story it is PNR. If the central part of the story is something other than a romantic relationship, even if there is one as a side story, than it falls into UF. I'm not sure others will agree with me, but that my take. I hope you enjoy this site as much as I do.

That's why Beta readers are so great. They can give you feedback, and maybe give a little nudge in one way or the other. I wish you the very best with your book.

message 2274: by Scarlett (new)

Scarlett Flame | 4 comments Hello everyone. I am happy to find this group and wanted to tell you a little about myself.

I am an author of paranormal romance, erotica, BDSM, Menage, reverse harem, steampunk, sci-fi, shifter and vampire books and much more.

I am also an ex children's nurse and Health Visitor living in Manchester in the UK.

I have a blog and a website and happy to help other authors promote their work. I also organise book signing events in Manchester and Liverpool in the UK. Bit of a Jack of all trades.

I not only write but love to read an eclectic mix of genre. Dark romance and dark fantasy being particular favourites. As well as Steampunk.

I love reading Anne Rice and Dean Koontz in particular but have read many different works by others. As a teenager, I was obsessed with Bram Stokers Dracula and avidly watched Buffy, Angel, True Blood and the Vampire Diaries on the telly.

I also love a good werewolf series, film or book to read. The fairly recent Teenwolf being a particular favourite. Put some magic and mayhem in a book and I am there.

message 2275: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments I also have read and loved Rice and Koontz. I especially enjoyed the Vampire Diaries series. I really love shifter stories. My favorite are bears and dragons. Welcome to the site. Could you give the link for you website? I'd like to check it out.

message 2276: by Scott (new)

Scott Boyer (rscottboyer) | 1 comments Hello everyone. My name is Scott. My favorite genre growing up was fantasy: Terry Brooks, Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind, and Anne McCaffrey. Oh, and Pierce Anthony. Love those puns!

I also love the short classics - Catch 22, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Count of Monte Cristo, Treasure Island, Frankenstein, Dracula, The Old Man and the Sea, and other amazing short classics.

My all-time favorite genre is spiritual fiction: Celestine Prophecy, Life of Pi, Siddhartha, The Alchemist, etc.

Guilty pleasure read = Twilight series.

Nowadays I write YA fantasy (Harry Potter meets Life of Pi). I'm also an ex-gamer (WoW), basketball player/coach, and huge dog lover.

I'm a huge dog and cat lover. I also love short stories. Frankenstein is one of the best. I also love the short stories by John Steinbeck (as well as the Grapes of Wrath). I also like the spiritual fiction. What Dreams May Come is a great book. So much better than the movie. Welcome to the site.

L.J. Red (ljred) | 3 comments Hi, I'm L.J. Red, I've been a fan of vamps forever.

I watch a lot of vampire tv (although, I feel like it's been slim pickings lately, I can't wait until the Vampire Chronicles start!)

This year I finally decided to start on my novel and I've just come out with my first Vampire Romance! Super exciting :)

message 2281: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Welcome. I prefer to read about vamps than watch. The movies and t.v. shows tend to over do the blood scenes. I have seen some I like though. I hope you like it here. This is a great site. Why don't you put your website address here so we can check out your book?

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 398 comments Hi all

LJ wrote: "... I watch a lot of vampire tv (although, I feel like it's been slim pickings lately, I can't wait until the Vampire Chronicles start!) ..."

Really? I've not heard about that. Do you know who is involved/what channel? There is so much material there it will be so easy to get it really wrong. I'm never sure what to think about my favs being put onscreen as so many have been fubared in one way or another. Personally I've been DESPERATE for The Witching Hour (I know... no vamps!) to be made into a series ever since I first read it.

Elizabeth wrote: "... The movies and t.v. shows tend to over do the blood scenes ..."

I totally agree with that Elizabeth. I suppose so much has to be a gore-fest on screen these days. It is a tad ironic to be complaining about too much blood on a vampire show/movie but I read a comment somewhere here on GR from someone saying something like who regularly spills half their dinner all over their face (and elsewhere) which made so much sense to me!

message 2283: by Ella (new)

Ella | 1 comments Hi, I’m Elle. I’m new to this group. I’m Romanian born and bred, my great great grandfather was British, that’s why my last name is Stone, my first name is Mirella, but most everyone calls me Elle. English is a foreign language for me, so I’m asking from the beginning to excuse any spelling or other errors I might make.
I love books, and I’m on a pnr/uf/fantasy/sf kick right now but I’m finding it harder and harder to find a series or a stand alone novel that actually grabs me.
I found this group while trolling goodreads for new books to read. I’m mostly into series, love the continuity, and the fact that with every new book I get to revisit and find out more about the characters I love.
Some of the authors I like are: Ilona Andrews, Nalini Singh, Thea Harrison, Jeaniene Frost, Sherrilyn Kenyon, J. R. Ward, G. A. Aiken/ Shelly Laurenston, Jennifer Estep, Suzanne Wright, Chloe Neil, R. L. Mathewson, Larissa Ione, J. D. Robb, Kristen Ashley, Lauren Dane, and a couple of others.
That’s about it for now.

message 2284: by L K (new)

L K (lkredd) | 4 comments hello, I'm fairly new to group, too. I've lurked some, not too involved, yet, but like other's recommends. But on pnr/ uf series, have you read any of the Quentin Black mystery series, by J C Andrijeski? Black In White is the 1st one. I've read up to book 7, and still love the books. Especially Black, of course. (and I Love Ilona Andrews, too).

message 2285: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Welcome. I haven't read any Andrijeski, but I've read everything I could get my hands on by Ilona Andrews. They are a great writing team (husband and wife). I hope you enjoy your time here. It's a really wonderful site.

message 2286: by Keta (new)

Keta (ketadiablo) | 16 comments Hello everyone! I'm Keta Diablo, romance author in several genres.
I live in the Midwest part of the US on six acres of woodland. We have trees, lots and lots of trees here, and with wooded areas comes lots of wild life. Our favorite to study and watch are a pair or barn owls that return every year to birth their young. It's so much fun to watch them train their adorable, white-faced babies to hunt and eat.

I write historical romance (mostly hot), contemporary romance (sometimes New Adult), and always paranormal no matter the genre. I have an obsession with ghosts, it seems. Probably because I saw them as a child. Really, I did. Now, ghosts walk on to the stage in my books, always as secondary characters. Sometimes they're humorous and friendly and sometimes their sinister and revengeful. I start the story and once they're on board, they decide if they're going to be naughty or nice. Do you like ghosts? Have you had any experience with them in your life?

message 2287: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Welcome. Please give us a website so we can peruse your work. As for your question, yes I saw a ghost once in my life. It was a moment, but left a very strong impression in my mind. When you said your live in the woods I imagined that it would be a great inspiration for shifter stories. I hope you enjoy your time here, it is a great site.

Hi Elizabeth, thanks for the comments. I do have a web site: http://authorketadiablo.com.

Ghosts do leave strong impressions - lol - I think that's their objective. I saw them often as a child and was so frustrated my mom could not see them when I'd point them out. I haven't written many shifter stories, one or two with werewolves, but not necessarily about them shifting. I love paranormal, but there's so many sub-genres within the paranormal to write about, guess I haven't hit all of them yet. Thanks again for the warm welcome.
~Keta~

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 398 comments Hi Cc, welcome!

HR - completed trilogy An Extraordinary Union (The Loyal League #1) by Alyssa Cole

PNR - To be completed series this year (final two books are due out Sept and Dec) Wolfsong (Green Creek, #1) by T.J. Klune

What else do you like? I love recommending books that no-one else is talking about. I love loads of the popular stuff, but think it's really important to share other good but lesser known stuff too.

Hi Cc .. Welcome, if you haven't tried Into the Wilderness this series is amazing and even has a cameo from some Outlander characters. Karen Marie Moning Highlander series has a great historical blend. Kushiel's Dart This one here though, in my top 3; uuuuhhhhmaaazing!!!

I have been away from goodreads for a bit ... I was reading 3-4 books a week (not a fast reader) and letting my life fall down around me lmbo!!! so I had to step back a bit. Now i'm indulging in more audio books and it fulfills my need without letting my day to day stuff get past me. good luck on adding to your list, a book a day (I'm jealous)!!!

If you like historical romance, my book Moon of the Sleeping Bear has been likened to the Into the Wilderness series. If you'd be interested I'd be more than willing to send you a .mobi file.

Erika (mystereen) | 1 comments Hi Everyone! I just thought I'd introduce myself since I just joined the group today. I have always loved reading books though I spent most of my years reading mystery thrillers by Sydney Sheldon and Mary Higgins Clark.

I just started reading PR/UF because I started to realize that some tv shows and movies that I most enjoy are in this genre. So now that I've started reading books in this genre, and I can't get enough! I absolutely love it!

I'm not a writer just a lover of books and love books that have fantastic fantasy worlds built that include steamy romances. Some of my recent favs include The Tairen Soul series (C.L. Wilson), The Hidden Legacy series (Ilona Andrews), and The Fae Chronicles (Amelia Hutchins).

I accept book/series suggestions and book-reading friends!

Glad to be here!

Erika

Jayla Kane (jaylakane) | 101 comments Hello everyone, nice to meet you--I am an avid reader, mostly here looking for reviews; I like to read absolutely anything but with two kids I'm narrowing my focus to guilty pleasures that I refuse to feel guilty about (PNR and high fantasy being the two I've really indulged until now, but looking to get more into UF--had no idea, when I read the rules, that the difference was primarily HFN vs. HEA endings! You learn things every day. I thought it was location based--because I am old, and UF ten years ago was all based in big cities; good old Sookie was PNR back then and now she's UF. Huh). I am also a writer, like most people these days, but I don't plan on mentioning that again because I realize how annoying it is. Love cupcakes, read far too much, bathe too little... TMI, but #momlife. Very much looking forward to finding some great new (and being reminded of great old reads--Shawn mentioned Kushiel's Dart above and that's probably in my top three. Nice to meet ya!

message 2296: by Dani (new)

Dani Morrison | 2 comments Hey There,

My name is Dani Morrison and I'm a 35 year old author and American expat living in the Netherlands. I've been a long time lover of romance novels and recently started writing my own this year.

My paranormal kicks tend to come from stories involving demons, shifters, and nature spirits but I'm open to just about anything as long as it's written well. I like heroines who have their own goals/ambitions but plenty of flaws while existing/living in complex worlds that don't necessarily do anyone any favors.

I'm interested in finding more Paranormal/Sci-Fi/High-Fantasy romance featuring, and/or, written by women of color and seek to create similar characters in my own work.

I look forward to reading everyone's recommendations and finding some new friends, and new reads, along the way.

Cheers!
