Avarla | 1 comments Hi everyone,
I'm 26 and live in Germany.

I'm always on the lookout for new recommendations and people with good taste in books to follow.
I love fantasy books, but absolutely can't stand the Middle Ages and thus I'm mostly stuck with urban fantasy. I'd love to explore fantasy further, but just don't know what to look for.
Last paranormal romance I read was the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh, and I really like the "one world - several main characters" setting. I hope to find more of that.

Besides that I read thriller and suspense with tons of plot twists and the occasional "normal" romance, if I feel in the mood for something really cheesy.

See you around :)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Welcome. Have you read Singh's psy/shifter series. It's really great. I also would recommend Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series (as well as the spin off). If you are up for less intense sex scenes, and a more playful storyline, you'll like Kristen Painter's Nocturne Falls series. I hope you enjoy your time here as much as I have. And you might want to connect with some of our local writers who post here. I've read some really good books by people here.

Amelia Faulkner (ameliafaulkner) | 5 comments Hi everyone! New to the group, so excuse me while I blunder around all the different threads :D

I'm from London in the UK, I love corgis and kittens, and also PNR/UF! I also write it, but tooting the old horn isn't my thang!

message 2159: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Welcome Amelia. Anybody who is an animal lover is okay in my book. We enjoy meeting new people, including writers. If you list some of your books that are available on Amazon I'd love to check them out.

Tyler Gray (wickedjr89) Hi, i'm Stephanie. I love reading a lot of different things but paranormal romance and urban fantasy are among my favorites. I love having vampires, aliens, mermaids and more in my reading! :)

I'm 28, an Aquarius and I also like to play games. Especially Sims but other games too, Pokemon, Mortal Kombat, Zelda....

I want to get started learning how to draw and if I manage to do it i'll definitely be wanting to draw all kinds of fantasy creatures!

Oooh thank you! It has been bookmarked and i'll be checking it out :)

message 2166: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Welcome Stephanie. I like games as well, but stick with mostly word and number puzzles/challenges. I would love to be able to draw, but can't make a stick figure LOL. I hope you love it here as much as I do. There are some really great people here. I've met some talented authors whose work I've enjoyed. And I've gotten some great recommendations for new series and authors. This is definitely one of my favorite sites.

message 2167: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Gray (wickedjr89) Bunnycore- I need to make progression first! I figure if I mention it enough to others i'll stop procrastinating and just do it. But once I do, I will :)

Thank you both :)

Nicola Sarandria | 2 comments Hello,
I am C. Wain. Dark fantasy and fantasy in general has been a great passion of mine for as long as I can remember. Gothic romance has always fascinated me. I love mature grimdark books and some of the more classical adventure/romance works. I think books can create a world in which one can take his/her mind off things in a way which is completely different from movies or spectacles (both of which I find are incredible means of sharing an author's work). I have also self-published a new dark fantasy book.

Lauren Barrett (laurenbarrett) | 4 comments Hello!

My name is Lauren Barrett, and I'm a fresh writer who's eager to learn. I thought joining groups in the genre would be a good way to see what people enjoy, and try to learn from what other people have written.

While I'm here because I write and want to discuss paranormal romance, I actually read a little bit of everything, from Dostoyevsky to Rowling.

I wrote my first ever completed work not too long ago, I released it in November on Kindle Unlimited. It's a paranormal romance short-story, and the story centers around individuals who live longer and recover from injuries far quicker than regular humans, and their encounters with them.

I'm writing the next part in that series right now, and can't wait to grow it even further.

I hope to be part of some great discussions while I'm here! :)

Michele (micheleoshelrosa) | 4 comments I am horrible talking about myself. I will copy and paste the bio from my website. Cannot wait to read the forums!

- - author who has lived in Georgia for the last fifteen years and proudly calls Maine her home state. As the ninth generation to hail from Maine, it is essential to bring a flavor of Maine and its people.

- - passionate student of British history and politics. She aspires to continue her studies of the Paston Letters as well as the War of the Roses. It is crucial to the author to include a rich tapestry of historical background and settings to her work.

Michele is also an Army Veteran, artist, hiker, wife, and proud mom. Be sure to check out the Art Gallery page. The author is an avid traveler and is crossing the pond this summer!

I love so much paranormal romance. I read it and I write it.

Give me a Vampire dom with a Shifter/Cyborg girlfriend and I'm a happy girl.

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 398 comments Hi all

Been lurking on your group for a little while now! I'm a big reader and UF/PR is one of my fav genres, but also a lifesaver for me.

I love vampires, but I have to admit that shifters have taken over as my most beloved supes, Feline shifters in particular. Anything lion, tiger, panther, jaguar etc BRING IT ON! Have also got a strong relationship with Bear shifters too, thanks to the (formulaic but immensely enjoyable) Damon's Mountains series' by T.S. Joyce!!!

One of my pet peeves is having to wait for the next in a series to be released, so I mostly binge read a series only once it's complete. I can never understand how you can wait for a year or more between installments, it's worse than waiting for the new season of a TV show to start! And how do you remember what has happened so far in the series? This is why I haven't read many of the "big" PR/UF series yet. There are exceptions, but not many!

message 2184: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Welcome Kitty. I'm with you about waiting for a book in a series. I love to read older series that are completed. But then, of course, I mourn the ending of a series I love LOL.

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 398 comments Thanks, Elizabeth.

I hear that the Kate Daniels series is due for completion this year and am sooooo looking forward to that one!

Darinne Paciotti | 6 comments Hey, all! I'm already a member here with my romance pen name but joining under this account to talk urban fantasy (I write mythological urban fantasy). I like fantasy, I like romance, I like books that blend the two. Not sure what else to say.

message 2187: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Hi Darinne. We have asked here before what the difference is between urban fantasy and paranormal. I would love to hear your take on this issue.

message 2188: by Darinne (new)

Darinne Paciotti | 6 comments Hey Elizabeth, you read Growing Up Godly. Would you consider that urban fantasy or just fantasy? I guess I feel like the difference between UF and PNR is the amount of romance in it. I think series with the same characters are more urban fantasy and standalones with a romantic arc would be PNR.

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Darinne wrote: "Hey Elizabeth, you read Growing Up Godly. Would you consider that urban fantasy or just fantasy? I guess I feel like the difference between UF and PNR is the amount of romance in it. I think series..."

I guess I considered Growing Up Godly to be PRN. I can see where you'd name it UF since the romance angle is definitely not the central theme. I have read many paranormal books that had little or no romance, and enjoyed them. However, I do like the romance angle since it seems to bring out more of the full range of the characters emotions. If that makes any sense LOL.

message 2190: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 5 comments Hi,

I am a single parent of two girls 8&5 and I was born in 1986!

I hope to share and listen to other people on here. I have been reading since elementary school till now. I started reading Historical romance and Nora Roberts when I was a teen, but those stories no longer appeal to me. I collected Paperbackbooks but now I use Kobo App and I don’t really read Non Romance Genres like Crime, Suspence or Fiction unless the Story and Characters appeal to me. I do read Romantic Suspence if I like the story. I still feel weird reading Some form of Erotica or BDSM infused into the story BUT the characters must show Developement and not just graphic language. I’m always looking out for new series that have Vampires, Werewolves and more!

My Top 5 Authors are Cynthia Eden, RedPheonix, Emma Rose, Christine Feehan and Felicity Heaton.

My list of authors changes, I used to read Gena Showalter, J.R Ward, Julia Skyes, and others.

I read other Authors when I’m bored as well and times have changed since I was a kid. I remember having to write in a paper card to take books out, now the city library was torn down and remodeled. The Library’s Cloud Reading App makes borrowing Ebooks and Audiobooks without a fee but they limit 5 books and I can return anytime.

I started Reading Online Through a site called Fanfiction. Com as a teen, and Manga which was quite expensive at a store and no one used the internet to read stuff when I was 15. Now a ton of websites to read Manga on and I DL free books fromSmashwords as well.

I hope I can meet new people and share any thing to do with books and authors.

Oh, I’m Chinese Canadian and I live in B.C, Canada. :)

Jackie

Welcome Jackie. I hope you like it here. I have found some wonderful authors and series here. I have two recommendations. If you like the paranormal romance Nilini Singh has wonder series. Her Psy/Changeling series is my favorite. I would also recommend signing up at bookbub. It is free. You put in the genre you like and they send a daily message to your email alerting you to discounted or free books in the areas you have signed up for.

C.C. Solomon | 5 comments HI all, thanks for letting me a join! I'm a civil rights worker by day and a blogger/writer by night. My fav author is Ilona Andrews (they make a great writing pair) and am always looking for other similar style authors. I'm currently getting into more paranormal romance and open to suggestions on good writers. Currently writing a multicultural UF and hope to see more POC in this genre. Thanks!

message 2193: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Welcome C.C. Thank you for your work in civil rights. It's never been more needed than now. I also am a fan of Ilona Andrews. The on the edge series is really good. I just wish it wasn't so long between books LOL. If you have a website showing your work you should list it here. I've found some really good authors here. I'm sure you would find a following.

Ivy | 3 comments Hi, everyone!

My name is Ivy and am a huge reader of Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy. I tend to read fast and if a book hooks me, I tend to talk and talk about it. I'm always up for any suggestions on what to read next and can't wait to get to know you all!

message 2197: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Welcome Ivy. I get what you mean. There have been times I've picked up a book to read, and by the time I'm so tired I can't stay awake any longer it's morning LOL. Nothing can hook you like a really good book.

I have stayed up many nights trying to finish a book when I should have been in bed! I was really bad about doing that back in college when I had morning classes (I heavily relied on coffee during those morning afters).

Been there, done that. The funny part is, I can remember characters and storylines from books I've read decades ago. However, much of the stuff I "learned" in college was quickly forgotten as soon as I realized it did absolutely no good when it came to my job. I love education, and believe it should be available to every child in this country, but honestly hands on experience teaches as much as classroom study.

message 2200: by Ivy (new)

Ivy | 3 comments I'm the same way. I can't remember much of what I have learned in college, mainly because I had changed my major so many times. I do, however, remember many of the books I was reading between breaks or before class had started.
