Introductions!
Hello Ray. That blurb sounds very enticing. I love books with angels and demons in. I would definitely read this. Happy writing Ray. :-)

Hi there Pam, my name is Kezzy and I just joined this particular group. I'm generally new to Goodreads and hope to find some interesting stuff, and company as well.
Welcome Jedi and Kezzy. I've really enjoyed the conversations here. I've also got some great recommendations for books, authors, and series. I hope you like it here as much as I do.
Still here. There have been several posts that I've gotten. I'm not sure why they haven't come to you. But we're still here.
Hi guys! My name is Christina Hart. I'm a self-published author. It's nice to virtually meet you all :)
Welcome Christina. Tell us about your work. What genre do you write? Are any of your books available on kindle? I like supporting authors when possible.
Hi Elizabeth, I write in different genres, from literary fiction to fantasy to paranormal to horror. Thanks for asking! And yes I have several books available on Kindle. My latest novel, Fresh Skin, is a vampire thriller and it's currently on Kindle. What are your favorite genres to read?
Christina, I looked for Fresh Skin on amazon kindle and couldn't find it. Would you mind giving your last name, or the names of some other books I could look for?
Christina, I found your name on another post and bought the book. I'm looking forward to reading it as soon as I'm done with my current series. I hope others here will read your work as well. I think it's important to support writers, especially self published writers. I look forward to reading Fresh Skin.
Thank you so much Elizabeth! I sincerely appreciate that. Let me know what you think. I'd love to chat about it with you when you're done :)
Hi, my name is Lara. I am originally from Alabama, but moved to Scotland after marrying my pen pal that was from Scotland. We have been married for ten wonderful years. I have an adorable little son, who keeps me on my toes, as he runs around the house chasing bad guys and goblin kings! ;) I have always loved reading and writing since I was a child. I have just recently published my first book that is a series. I love all genre really, however, fantasy and supernatural has a special place in my heart. As odd as it is nowadays, I do not have ebooks or a kindle, as I love the feel of a traditional book. When I am not running around after my son or writing, I enjoy curling up on the couch with a good book that I can get lost in.
I am looking forward to the group, discussions, and the book suggestions! It is nice to be here and I look forward to getting to know you all. Feel free to add me as a friend as I am always up for a chat on books or writting. :)
Welcome Lara. Is your book on Amazon, and what is the name of the book? I like to support new authors when possible.
Welcome Isabelle. I just got your book from Amazon. I love shifter stories. I'll let you know what I think after I read it. I have to laugh because after reading that you like the erotic, I looked at the name of your book and at first thought the first letter of the first work was a K LOL. Freudian mental slip. I think it's going to be fun having you as one of ours:)
Greetings, elders and wise :-)So what's a Tatter Jack when he's at home? Well, for a start, he's not really Tatter Jack. First, because that's only one of his names (there are covers with Tatter Jack on the front, but there are other covers with another name on :-) ). Second, because really he's TatterJack - but the Publishing world (especially in America) doesn't like folk without first and second names. So TatterJack became Tatter Jack :-).
This is where the Book of Rules says I'm supposed to try to sneak in some self-promotion and hint about those covers with Tatter's name on. Well, not gonna (blush). I really don't like doing that in first posts. I'll say this though, if I may. Tatter Jack is the name my 'other hat' uses for his self-published work. That lets him make really bad Cover Art for them while trying to get better at it, and work in genres his existing Publishers don't really play in. So yes, there are covers with words in them you probably don't want your boss reading over your shoulder. Or even your cat.
OK - maybe your cat :-).
But while some of the work is more blush-creating, some other titles are less so. And include Romance - or at least, I hope they do. Because (as I've said elsewhere), if I paraphrase the band LINX and say 'is this Romance', I'm not sure there's a yes or no answer. Is Romance purely individual? Is it different for males and females? Is male-female Romance different somehow from male-male or female-female?
Buggered if I know (blush).
So I won't say some of my work (XXXX XXXXXXXXX, perhaps, or XXXXXXXX XXX) is Romance. I'll just say I hope it is. Heck, I hope even some of the, um, more blush-inducing micro-shorts are :-). And Paranormal? Well, that's easy to define - and hard too. Is it a _Paranormal_ romance if one of the characters is, say, a Shifter - but only shifts _once_ throughout the whole book? Or is it a Rom that just happens to have a Shifter in it? Heh - maybe that's something we could talk about :-).
So there you are. This is me - Tatter Jack. At least, it is when I'm not being someone else. Pull up a chair - let's talk!
Welcome Tatter. I'll give you my opinion about one of your questions. I enjoy romance/exotica that encompasses all types of relationship (straight, gay, bi, fetish, etc.). What makes it a compelling romance is the relationship between the characters. What makes it a good or great romance is the depth of the characters. I like characters that are layered and complex. Nobody is all good or all bad. I like the shades of gray. Great intro.:)
I finished Isabel's Runt of the Litter. It was a really enjoyable book to read. The main female was more dominant than the main male. In a shifter book that is unique. The characters were fun to get to know. And I am looking forward to reading the second book in this series. I recommend this book with the warning that the sex scenes are explicit (and delicious). Not something I would recommend for teenage readers. However, I say that knowing that if I were still a teenager that would be enough to make me buy the book LOL.
Lady ElizabethAnd my thanks indeed for thy kind words, wise one and fair!

But there, at the risk of starting a discussion here and improperly hijacking other Introductions - well, there lies the rub, as William of the Shaking Spear might say (blush). Is that view one, perhaps, more shared by female readers than male? An interest in the people involved, as opposed to what they're involved _in_? Or are males (and males, I'm assured, do read Rom though they may not admit it openly :-) ), more interested in counting kisses than the mystery of motivation?
I'm minded of a micro short I scribbled once - THE DAY WE DIDN'T. It itched at my fingers so much, it grew some and turned into XXXX XXXXXXXXX (blushes again). But that's not the thing. A female friend of mine read it, and said it was the hottest, most erotic, most romantic thing she'd ever read. She showed it to a male friend of hers. His reaction? 'Where's the sex bit'. Well, there isn't any - not really. That's sort of the point of the title :-). And it's rash to call a gender bias from one sample :-))). But it does raise the question in my head. The best numbers I have for my 'other hat' say 70% of my readers are female. Why? Buggered if I know (not that I'm complaining :-))))) ). But still, it makes me wonder. Is there an answer to 'is this Romance'? Or does it depend totally on _who_ is answering? Are there common threads, common 'must have's'? And if there are, who are they common _to_?
I know. I'm blethering. My apologies, wise ones and fair - to silence I return (a final blush - at least, for now :-) ).
Tatter, I doubt it's as much gender as individual personality. For instance, I enjoy reading S&M (even though it isn't something I like in "real" life). I know many women and men who also enjoy that kind of story. I know an lot of women and men that are not turned on at all by the rougher ride LOL. Men may admit to liking steamy books more than women, and women may admit to liking relationship books more. But I think that has more to do with society expectations than what they actually enjoy. Now I do think straight women are more likely to enjoy gay romances (especially men and men) than straight men. But I think that has more to do with fear of being labeled gay, or latent gay feelings, than it has to do with the stories. Just my take on things. I admit to, occasionally, being wrong LOL.

Heh - and now you have me fascinated to find out out how you might feel about some of my micro-shorts collections. But this isn't the place for self-promotion, free or otherwise (blush). Still, if the idea might intrigue you, drop me a note - I have an in with the Publisher (since it's, um, me (blushes again) :-).
I needed to catch up with this thread, and I'm glad that I did! I see a few tempting reads here from some of you writers!
Hi allNeed a little help in terms of understanding paranormal romance. Does that term cover everything from ghosts to demons or is it more specific?
In terms of the romance part is this boy meets spirit, fall in love and live ethereally ever after? Or would it be leaning more towards the erotic?
I ask because I'm putting the finishing touches to my latest book and I'm unsure as to how I should classify it.
Thanks
Tom
Welcome Tom. PNR encompasses everything from shifters, vampires, angels, ghosts, demons, zombies, etc. The romance part goes from tame love scenes to erotica. A lot of the readership of PNR is tween and teen readers, so I would advise being specific about how detailed your sex scenes are. I hope you enjoy the discussions here. Please let us know more about your writing. I, personally, love to support new writers or writers new to me. I've read the works of several people who have posted here, and enjoyed most of them.
Thanks Elizabeth, that's very helpful. I suspect my work may be a little tame for many a tween/teen as you put it, in this day and age. I'm probably between romance and erotic, but there is a degree of violence as well.
Book1 is completed in a series entitled The Demon Detective Agency and I'm in the process of editing and tidying up, creating the cover and the website - a test-web can be seen here http://thedemondetectiveagency.busine...
and I'll be actively seeking readers over the next few weeks for review.
Fingers crossed!
Regards
Tom
Please let us know when the book is available. I would love to read it. I like the idea of demon detectives:)
Tom there are other authors here (Isabel, Victoria, Tatter, etc.) who I have befriended. You may enjoy sharing your experience with the other authors. Just a suggestion. And if you would like to friend me I would be happy to accept.
Okay, thanks for that Elizabeth.I have put a short sample from The Demon Murders on my test website, so feel free to have a read and tell me what you think.

I'll be looking for more readers once I've published and will let you know when that is.
Thanks.
Tom
Well Tom you made me miss the Jets kicking the Bills butts for a few minutes LOL. I have to ask, is your woman a succubus? I wouldn't ask you to give away any of the plot, but I do enjoy a good succubus character:) Very intriguing. I'll definitely be reading the story when it's finished.
Hey everyone!I'm new to the group. I'm a huge fan of UF and PNR with strong female protagonists. <3
I'm a bit shy when it comes to posting, but I'd really like to connect with some ladies around my age who share similar reading or writing interests.
Thanks for having me! :)
Welcome Fictivate. This is a good group. There is no pressure to post. You can just read the posts and respond when the mood takes you:) I have gotten some really good recommendations for PRN books, authors, and series. I've also enjoyed the discussions a great deal.
Well, Elizabeth, I'm not sure about Succubus as Polydorus doesn't quite fit that bill, to my mind at least. But if you like to think of her that way then by all means.Must admit, I do like her and her attitude... but then I'm biased.

I'd thought I'd post the preliminary blurb and see what folks thought of the premise.
Here's the blurb.
The Selkirk family is one of the seven Blessed bloodlines; true emissaries of God empowered by his seven Archangels. The Blessed have protected humanity from the Grigori and their demonic allies for over nine hundred years. Trained from birth to battle the Grigori the Selkirk brothers fight forces that most people do not believe in yet still instinctive fear. The seventh son of a seventh son, Cadell Selkirk has power beyond that of his brothers and the other Blessed. That power has made the Grigori fear him and mark him for destruction. With the Grigori gathering their forces against them Cadell and his brothers are the only hope of stopping a plague of vengeful demons from being unleashed on an unbelieving and unprepared human race.
