Michelle Tempted By Books (michelletemptedbybooks) | 195 comments Its been ages so... I'm Michelle mom of two, jewlery maker and avid reader. I am looking for a few new reads....

I am looking for three specific stylesof books. I am starting to get worn out on PNR and Urban Fantasy though I do still follow some series and will check out big favorites.

Right now I am starting to get into "cozy mysteries" something similar to Victoria Laurie's Ghoul series.

I am also in love with humorous books like Charlie Davidson by Darynda Jones; or anything by Molly Harper.

Lastly I am madly in love with Gini Koch's Alien series; so anything similar is very interesting to me.

I will read some teen and some Erotica though my patience isn't really there anymore. I am really just looking for a change.

Thank you for all suggestions. :)

My name is R.Kain or R.K for short, and I'm an author who loves Urban Fantasy series. My personal favorites in the genre are the Dresden Files series.

Ashlan Thomas (ashlanthomas) | 4 comments Hello! My name is Donna AnnMarie Smith and I don't normally go by my full name, but let's get real. Donna Smith? I might as well stand in a Where's Waldo picture wearing red and white stripes. So...my initials are DAMS, which works for me because I never shy away from a well-placed curse.
I love coffee, but it doesn't love me, so I'm one of those people...a tea drinker. *GASP* But I think I redeem myself with my love of the fish taco. I read New Adult anything, preferably paranormal romance. (Angels rock!) I am a mother of three girls and a wife to one man. :)
And I decided that I loved writing so much, I thought I would do it full time. And I do.

Ian Jarvis | 33 comments Hello there
I’m Ian, and this is my brief introduction to the group – brief, so as not to bore anyone who’d rather be reading something more worthwhile – an exciting book being the obvious alternative.
I was born in the north of England, where I worked for three hectic decades as an operational firefighter with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue. I recently retired, but rather than sit drooling at a watercolour easel with an ear trumpet and a tartan rug over my knees, I walk quite a bit, usually in the Dales or the North York Moors, and I travel, mostly Asia and the Americas.
My interests include natural history with an emphasis on birds, books, American comics, real ale, and ridding the world of all known evils. I’ve spent the past twenty something years in a village near Selby, Yorkshire, where I write horror, urban fantasy and supernatural thrillers featuring a York-based "white witch". The American company Damnation Books have published the first two of these. Please feel free to check out my website www.ianjarviswriter.com and let me know what you think. Every click of the site “like” button delivers a free chocolate through your letterbox. This is a virtual chocolate, however, and you’ll need to use your imagination to enjoy it.
Take care everyone, keep reading, and live long and prosper.
Ian

Ariel Marie (the_arielmarie) | 4 comments Hello!
My name is Ariel Marie. I'm a registered nurse for a major hospital. I specialize in kidney and pancreas transplant. I love reading all romances but my absolute favorite is paranormal romance, love me some shifters and vamps! If it's action packed then I'm hooked! I love paranormal romance so much, I just wrote my first book! So nurse by day, author by night! Hopefully, I can go to full-time writing and part time nursing!

I'm married with three beautiful children. I love cooking and baking from scratch! I'm always open to try new recipes!
Check out my first epic paranormal romance novel , Power of the Fae! It debuts June 10th!

I look forward to recommendations for new books to read! Thanks!

Natalia Marx (nataliamarx) | 8 comments Hello! My name is Natalia Marx. I work in the arts, mostly in film/theatre. I am a definite nerd. Unfortunately not the cool kind that goes to comic con and and kicks ass at video games...the kind that asked for more homework. I was THAT kid.

I grew up loving high fantasy and fairy tales from around the world, as well as classics. I used to make fun of my sister for reading the romance genre, but when I finally gave it a chance, I loved it! Some of the archaic stereotypes still make me want to scream, but I like the overall satisfaction of a happy ending that promotes more love in the world.

Actually, although I always thought I'd write political non-fiction, reading romance novels made me want to write in that genre instead. I'm almost finished on a Fantasy Romance with a strong female lead. I chose it bc I love fantasy romances but there are so few out there! Also, the character is the definite "alpha", not just a "plucky" female, which is also really rare.

:) Nice to meet you all!

Anne Smeets (annesmts) Hello everyone!

It's so good to see so many paranormal/urban romance fans in one place, I love it!
My name is Anne, I'm 25 years old and I'm an art history student. I live in the Netherlands. I got addicted to romance novels when I found my mother's at age 11. I started out reading historical romance novels, but two years ago I found out about paranormal and urban romance and I'm hooked ever since.
I love love lóóóóve werewolf romance, although I also enjoy vampire novels. I also love it when romance novels have a strong and smart heroine :)
It's my dream to write a romance novel one day, but I'm afraid my English won't be good enough to accomplish that :/

Ian Jarvis | 33 comments Hello there Anne
Reading your post, I'd say your English is pretty astounding. Go for it.
All the very best

Sophie Morgan (sophiehmorgan) | 4 comments Hi everyone *waves*

I'm 24, English, and hopelessly addicted to romance books. I read Gena Showalter's Pleasure Slave when I was 15 and have been hooked ever since. I live in England where it always rains, where no day is complete without a cup of tea, and where we're all unfailingly polite (to your face) I also write adult PNR/ fantasy under the name Sophie H Morgan. I adore alpha heroes, especially those with a bit of animal in them, heroines who bite back and oodles of humour and sexy times!!! Nalini Singh, Larissa Ione, Kresley Cole and Gena Showalter are all auto-buys =)

Looking forward to knowing everyone!

Sophie | 7 comments Sophie wrote: "I live in England where it always rains, where no day is complete without a cup of tea..."

Amen, Sophie, I'm sitting with my brew and looking at the rain right now!

Morning,

I'm 28, from London, an Aries and single mum to my daughter, Niamh (named after the beautiful princess who lived in a land under the sea in Irish folklore). I love, love, love to read and tend to average 3-4 books a week when they're books I really enjoy! My favourite genres are high fantasy (The Name of the Wind, The Complete Farseer Trilogy: Assassin's Apprentice, Royal Assassin, Assassin's Quest etc.), thrillers, horror (The Secret of Crickley Hall and The Shining made me nervous to go to bed!) and romance (YA, adult and paranormal). If I'm honest, I can handle humans and vampires/werewolves/shifters etc. but I find there something really weird and off-putting about humans and ghosts/zombies! No thanks...

I look forward to meeting everyone :)

Vanessa Black | 9 comments Hi everyone,

my name is Vanessa Black, I'm an avid reader and self-published author of romance, paranormal romance / urban fantasy and I come from West-Germany. I love stories about people who live ordinary lives and are suddenly thrown into the world of the supernatural they hadn't known existed. I love epic romances and epic battles between good and evil.
Some of my favorite books are (not necessarily in this order) the Outlander Series, Terry Goodkind Sword of Truth Series, The House of Night Series, The Vampire Diaries, The Sookie Stackhouse Series, The Fallen Series, The Host, The Twilight Series, The Divergent Series, The Harry Potter Series, The Symphony of Ages Series, Trial by Fire...and many more; I can't list them all.

I've been reading romance novels since I was about 13 (maybe?...can't remember exactly) and I love nothing more than to curl up on the couch on a stormy day with a hot cup of tea (or coffee) and delve into unknown worlds. If you all love reading as much as I do, you'll know exactly what I mean!

So, this is me...it's nice to meet you all!

Sincerely, Vanessa :-)

Hi Leslie,

don't worry for one second about rejection letters, I'm told there 'in' at the moment :-). Honestly, I had a hard time even finding publishers that were willing to read a manuscript from a non-published first time writer unless that writer had an agent. And when I sent inquiries to agents, I got some rejections and many of them never even got back to me to give me an answer. I think the problem is they're so busy with manuscripts flooding in that a first time author has slim chances to win their attention. I didn't try for a publisher or agent for long (I think I only wrote to 4 agents and one publisher) before I decided I didn't want to wait for months to get an answer. Instead I decided to self-publish on amazon and CreateSpace. Of course it's different than having a publisher who will put your book on every book-shelf, but it also has its advantages, one of which is that you get to self-publish your book exactly as you want it to be and nobody can make any changes to it. If at some point you feel you're getting tired of rejections or tired of waiting, and if self-publishing is something you're willing to consider, I can just say, I highly recommend it. Of course it is hard work to market your book on your own, but for me personally, just knowing that my book is out there for people to read and getting positive feedback makes me feel proud of what I've accomplished and makes me care less about any rejection I've ever received. So don't let this or any other rejections determine how you feel about what you've accomplished! Just go on writing...because if you're anything like me, loving to write and create your own world is what this is all about!

Sincerely, Vanessa :-)

Evelyn Timidaiski (goodreadscometimid43_timidaiski) | 6 comments Hi everyone. I'm Evelyn. I read and write paranormal. I tend to enjoy the intellectual paranormal rather than the lots of splashing blood kind. I admit that Vampires scare the dickens out of me. I love Christeen Feehan's Ghostwalker series. I stay away from her Dark series. Paranormal books must have a good plot to keep my attention. You can create the most exotic world imaginable, but if the story isn't there- not for me.
I look forward to getting to know this group.

Shelly Laurenston Makes me laugh, J.D. Tyler has a good wolf series, Nalini Singh, if you like literary reads Donna Ball has a awesome vampire story. Rebecca Zanetti's Sin Brothers are awesome, Gena Showalter, Laura Ann Dobner, Shannon K. Butcher, and Patricia Briggs ( mercy thompson series) i do like the sex but i am more attracted to fluid writing styles. I thinknthat is why I am more attracted to christine snd patricia briggs.

Diana Rising (dianaruthr) Hi, I'm Diana Rising, and I have posted a few times to the group, but I don't think I posted here.
My favorite urban fantasy writer so far is Charles De Lint, I love stories about werewolves and dragons and other shifters. Right now I'm not in to vampires, but I occasionally am all about the vampires. I love Patricia Briggs, the werewolf stories and the dragon stories, and I really like humorous paranormal romance writers like Celia Kyle, Eve Langlais, etc.
I live in Los Angeles, California, USA, and work in computers. I do a bit of proofreading on the side.
Besides these genres, I read a lot of romance and erotica.

I'm Margaret Madigan. I'm actually an author. I write all kinds of romance, including pnr, urban fantasy, historical, contemporary. I'm published (you can find my books on my author profile, if you're interested), and the things I love best about being an author are: 1) creating new characters, worlds, and stories; 2) meeting readers and other people like me who love books and stories!

Otherwise, I live in the northern plains of the U.S.A., I have a master's degree in English, I love donuts and the Oregon Ducks, I'm terrified of balloons, and I have a cat named Rufus.

I'm excited to be part of this group and can't wait to be part of the discussions!

Jo-Jo Hello everyone! My name is Joanne. I am from a small town outside of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA and have lived in the Cincinnati area my entire life. I am a mom of two beautiful little girls, ages 9 and 10. I love reading many genres. The ones at the top of my list have to be anything paranormal and supernatural but I also can devour(in a reading sense) horror, historical romance, dystopian, young adult, fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction, true crime, and any other type of book as long as the storyline seems interesting to me. I have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. I am fairly new to Goodreads and would love some new friends on here- so if anyone would like to add me, please do! Thanks so much for taking a little time to learn about me. ☺

Louise (wopsywoo) | 44 comments Hello everyone! My name is Louise. I'm from Lincolnshire, UK. I'm 30 years young and a mother of two gorgeous boys. I am obsessed with reading and finding new authors but I've only just recently joined Goodreads. I am a serious paranormal romance/erotica fan! I started reading them about a year ago when I received a suggestion through facebook to read A Shade Of Vampire by Bella Forrest. I have always been fascinated by the paranormal/supernatural genre when I first read and watched Interview With The Vampire by Anne Rice when I was just a delusional teenager haha! Brad Pitt clinched it for me in the movie! I read a lot of other genres, romance, sci-fi, horror, mysteries, basically anything with a strong storyline but my true love is paranormal romance. I would love to make friends with others who enjoy reading PR- so if you would like to add me then that would be great. Thanks for reading :-)

message 1836: by Celestine (new)

Celestine Hi everyone. I'm from the Midwest, USA, where right now the corn is tall and the cicadas are loud. I'm an avid reader of genre romance. I read a lot of sci-fi romance and western historical, but find my self lately enjoying fantasy and some varieties of paranormal romance. Hence, the reason I joined this group. I like to recommend books I enjoy and write decently long reviews of five to three star reads. If it is a one or two star read, I rate it but don't waste my time postulating the whys. Looking forward to good reading suggestions and discussing books!

BookPusher D (bookpusherd) Hi all, I'm D. The reading challenges in this group compelled me to join. And my love for preternatural/paranormal/fantasy/so-on-and-so-on... I love lore and fairytale retellings and am a sucker for mythology, fae, and angels (pretty much everything except zombies). I am obsessed with the Dark Hunter world, and have a love love/hate relationship with the Shadow Hunter world (it's complicated). I also keep on top of the Iron Fey world, and (for reasons that are beyond me) the Shadow falls world.
Ok I am off to join those challenges :D
Hope to meet some of you soon!

Rose | 7 comments Hey everyone, I'm Rose. Love to read and love, love all type of romance novels. I am obsessed with Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden. He is & forever will be my #1 book boyfriend although I tend to collect a few of them on a regular basis. Acheron of Dark Hunterverse, Charley Davidson's Rey Aziel (Reyes) & Con of Dragon Kings to name a few. I prefer reading a book series & occasionally enjoy a good YA novels.

I'm a doctor by day and author of PNR/UF by night. I love to read almost any type of fiction when I'm not slogging through textbooks and papers. I'm an occasional runner and I drink way too much coffee. I also love red wine and the ocean (I live in RI).

message 1847: by Karen (new)

Karen Harley (karenharley) | 6 comments Hi all,

I'm a fan of pretty much all the genres except horror. If there's an element of romance, all the better.

Some of my favorites authors:

Romance: Laura Kinsale, Alexandra Sellers, Susan Napier
Science Fiction/Time Travel Romance: Deborah Gordon
Mystery: Dorothy Sayers, Dick Francis
Western: Louis L'Amour (his Kilkenny series, wooh!)

I'm not up on the paranormal authors that have trended in the last decade or so, as this has been a nesting time for me. But that's some of what I write, and I've been interested to watch how paranormal has evolved to cover urban fantasy. You just didn't see that fifteen years ago, when only a few houses like Leisure and Zebra were daring enough to publish fantasy-style romances NOT written by the big names. Online publishing has done wonders for the genre. It's nifty.

It's nice to have found Goodreads!

message 1848: by Niamh (new)

Niamh O'Donovan | 5 comments Hi!
I'm based in Ireland and I just published my first urban fantasy novel. I'm currently reading The Change (Unbounded Series.)

I like craft beer, and sitting in a bar where I have no obligations. I'm about to start a full time photography course, two days of classes followed by a day to take photographs, followed by two days in the studio or darkroom. The course runs until next April. I'm going to have to find ways to de-stress during this. It's going to be so intense, so I hope to find lots of recommendations for books I can fall into on here.

message 1849: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Wheeler | 386 comments Welcome. If you enjoy paranormal I would suggest Ilona Andrews. She's one of my favorites. I also like Patricia Briggs and Charlaine Harris.

message 1850: by Niamh (new)

Niamh O'Donovan | 5 comments I devoured the Charlaine Harris books in about a month. I can't remember where I stopped but I had read a lot (I'm not too gone on the TV Series though.)

I'll take a look a Ilona Andrews when the next paycheque comes through. It'll be interesting to look at stories that are written by two people. I can't imagine doing it myself.

I hadn't looked at Patricia Briggs up until know, but being a Volkswagen mechanic sounds fantastic. I know a girl exactly like that who constantly has her car engine splayed across her driveway.
