Stacey Jeffreys (staceyjeffreys) | 8 comments Hi there! My name is Stacey. I live in rural Michigan. I am the proud mother of two donkeys, two goats, three dogs, one cat and a varying number of bunnies. I love to read but sadly haven't always had the time. For the New Year, I am making reading a top priority. I need the escape. I prefer fantasy, science fiction, paranormal romance, young adult and urban fantasy but ultimately will read almost anything put in front of me (I'm looking at you, shampoo bottle!). I look forward to finding new books and authors to love from all of you.

Hi Stacey! I love your "family"! Growing up in rural PA, we had a dog, a sheep, a deer, numerous bunnies, and our own family of raccoons that were forever raiding the trash and driving my poor father insane. lol Now I live in the mountains outside of Seattle, and we have naughty bear that like to picnic in my neighbors yard.

I had a deer walk right up to me once in my mom's front yard, maybe 2 feet away, just checking me out. Still one of the neatest experiences ever. We stared at each other for several moments. Cars were driving by and I'm sure they were wondering 'what the heck?'. It finally turned and calmly walked away like no big deal. And when I was little, an old uncle had a pet raccoon. Naturally, that made going to his house a lot of fun. I do love my critters. It sounds like you live in a beautiful place. *envious* Thanks for the welcome!

Alexandra Engellmann (engellmann) | 15 comments Hi! I'm Alex, I live in Russia, 23 y/o. I'm in love with English language, and my whole life I've been a fantasy fan (mostly American authors). I read some other genres, too, and sometimes write short stories that I call "5 min reading" and post them in my tumblr blog. I also draw, mostly it's art for my fantasy book, but sometimes just my favorite badass characters) My favorite character would be Sparhawk, who won my heart even as I was 10 years old. And my favorite book is "One Day" by David Nicholls.

Feel free to add me as a friend!

Hi everyone.
Intro: I’m Mary Jane Cabot, age 25, and I’m located in San Francisco or LA, depending where my job takes me. I spend a lot of time on airplanes and to pass the hours I read, and read, and read – mostly adult or smut fiction (I always wonder if the guy in the seat next to me knows what I’m really reading or has a clue why my cheeks turn red). The last thing I read was “Moan for Big Foot,” by Virginia Wade; fun, silly & also a thrill. Next in line is “A Different Kind of Cosplay” by Lucy Felthouse (favorite), which I think is due out this week. In addition to writing PR & marketing fluff stuff for my job, & for fun, I also love to write edgy urban or sci-fi erotic fiction.
MJC

R&R Express (rrexpress) | 5 comments Hi Erin, there is a series by kf breene that starts with " Into the Darkness" and one of the secondary male characters knits when he is guarding (Charles). I really like this series. There's not a huge focus on it, but mentioned for humor and for development of his character.

Kay (❦ ᴗ ❦ ✿) BooksandMe (iamkayiee) | 28 comments Erin wrote: "Hi all, I'm fairly new to this group... And like most of you an avid reader of not only fantasy but just about everything. So now I have a strange request--can any of you recommend a fantasy novel ..."

Magic Steps (The Circle Opens, #1) by Tamora Pierce Its a YA but one of the characters, Sandry, she knits.

message 1770: by Lokki (new)

Lokki (lokki8) | 18 comments Hi. I'm Lokki (rhymes with pokey). I'm relatively new to GR. I was very active on the Chapters/Indigo community for years but it has really changed (mainly due to Chapters not really supporting it any more) and so I decided to try here. I thought I would check out some groups so I could start interacting with the community here and also get new titles to add to my TBR list. I am a voracious reader and would-be author (yeah, I know, who isn't on this site?). I used to try and write a review for everything I read but that started getting in the way of actually reading so now I only write a review when I feel moved to do so. I read mainly UF, PNR, horror, action/thriller, mystery and some romance (usually found on the bargain table). I have an ereader but I'm one of those that prefers the actual book in hand. Looking forward to chatting with you all.

message 1773: by C.A. (new)

C.A. Mitchell (camitchell) | 8 comments Howdy folks, I'm a 28 y.o. lady-writer from Scotland. I write only fantasy, but read just about all genres (although UF and PNR are my faves, followed by mystery/sci-fi/thriller/historical). I just joined yesterday and have already bought three books based on your recommendations :D I like a good romance, but not a 'two gorgeous people fall in love immediately' sort of thing. A book must be well-written and have believable characters for me to like it. Dragons help too.

Looking forward to chit-chat and more great suggestions from the group :)

Brittain *Needs a Nap and a Drink* (bwilliams2013) Hello y'all!

I'm Brittain and I'm a 23 year old blogger/reader from Alabama. I've had a long standing guilty pleasure relationship with paranormal romance and I figured this was the best place to really explore that. I read just about anything but I love urban fantasy novels and I hope to one day be an author of such a book.

I love to chat and love some friends as well! Looking forward to interacting with y'all.

Liv | 26 comments Hi,

I'm Liv and I love to read all kind of books (I don't usually know which genre a book is but as long as I like it, I don't really care). Since I'm non-native english I am a bit slow in reading english books but I really enjoy them because the translations are usually just bad.

Karen, meet another former reporter who also can write with distractions all around. I have been spoiled by having a quiet place to write for several decades now. Sometimes you need a lawyer, so it is good to know where to find one ;-)

message 1780: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello! I just joined Goodreads, as an author, but I love reading all kinds of stuff in this broadest, most awesomest of genres, fantasy and sci-fi! I'm really looking for some new stuff to read via recommendation since I feel like I'm hitting dead ends since I've read so much already!
As for me, I'm 29, live in Seattle, born and raised in the PNW and love reading and writing erotic science fiction with a brain.
Feel free to friend me and send me recommendations!
Best
Chary

message 1784: by Candace (new)

Candace Blevins (candaceblevins) | 21 comments Hi everyone!

As an author, I've recently jumped into the Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance genres, after writing the Safeword series for years.

My PNR will be a sister series to the UF, so some of the secondary characters can get their HEA. The UF will a little BDSM, but toned down so I don't freak people out, and the PNR will just be kink without jumping all the way into BDSM.

As a reader, some of my favorite UF series are October Daye, Jane Yellowrock, Kate Daniels, and Mercy Thompson. And yes, I realize there is little to no sex in most of these, but they're still my favorites when it comes to UF :)

message 1785: by Shelleen (new)

J.S. Watts | 35 comments I thought I'd already said hi, but it was either further back in the mists of time than I remember, or I didn't do it. So:

message 1792: by Skye (new)

Skye Callahan (skyecallahan) Hi everyone! I'm Skye Callahan, and I have loved reading paranormal books since I was a kid. This passion also led me to start writing my own paranormal stories, and while I was in grad school for Public History, I rediscovered my love of fiction through A Discovery of Witches and decided to try my hand at writing again. Since then, I have published 2 paranormal urban fantasy novels and 4 romance novels. Some of my favorite paranormal authors are Deborah Harkness, Chloe Neill, and R.L. Stine.

message 1793: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (sharonkara) Hi everyone, I'm Sharon. I love to read but also write paranormal romantic comedies. I became hooked on paranormal romance about a year ago after reading the likes of Robyn Peterman. I've just finished reading Tara West Eternally Yours series and laughed my butt off. Now looking for my next book and I'm like a kid in a candy store :)
Happy reading!

message 1794: by Jean (new)

Jean Carlson (jeanlowecarlson) | 6 comments Wow! I love this introductions thread!

I have been a long-time lurker into the paranormal romance genre, and it all started way back when (I think it was 2003) with Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake Series.Guilty Pleasures Loved it. Totally addicted. Wanted so much more. I read these on and off for years, working my way through college and later getting my doctorate of naturopathic medicine, and suddenly in the last three years I found out that I actually love to write fantasy romance and paranormal romance in addition to reading it! Just self-published on Amazon this month, and really excited to meet everyone who is involved in the paranormal romance and fantasy romance genres. So! Just joined Goodreads and am now looking for some good reads! Nice to meet you all... ;-) Jean

My name is Leslie. I'm a criminal defense lawyer who dreams of retiring as a writer. (yes, I'm crazy.) I am a voracious reader who enjoys sci-fi horror paranormal romance urban fantasy type books. I'm the last person in the world to discover the Anita Blake series, and I am just loving it. It's the first paranormal romance/ urban fiction I've stuck with since L.A. Banks' The Vampire Huntress Series. Rhiannon Frater is also a favorite of mine along with Justin Cronin and Stephen King and Sam Sisavath I'm a huge comic book nerd, and I also an a bit of a zomiphile and vampire freak. I am not yet published, but I did just get my first rejection letter. (whoo-hoo!) Glad to have found this forum.

Rachel Chanticleer (rachelchanticleer) | 37 comments Hey everybody!!

I'm Rachel and I'm a PNR girl all the way. My favorite stories are the ones where (usually the heroine) discovers the world of the supernatural at the same time the reader does.

I've been on Goodreads socially for a while, but I will be publishing soon, and this is my pen name profile.

I'm glad to be part of your group!
