Antoinette Houston (ajhouston) Hi! My name's Antoinette Houston and I'm a happily married mother of one who gets bored with real life so tends to daydream, buries herself in a book or writes. I am a casual gamer (done ffx, wow, everquest, etc) mmos and have moved back into playing rpgs. i love fantasy genres. books; my faves are sci-fi, paranormal, fantasy, adventure and i even read the ya's. they're fun. i also read manga and graphic novels as well as watch tons of anime! i draw and enjoy cooking have recently started trying my hand at quilting. my most recent success is the fact that i've published my first Urban fantasy book and i'm very excited about that. hoping to get folks to read it and let me know what they think about it. it's a little book called Red Summer and it was a story that had been writing and writing and writing since i was in middle school. and that's it. :)

How are you all, lovelies?

Melissa Stark | 3 comments Hi! I'm Melissa and I'm excited to find this group. I'm a sponge when it comes to paranormal romance. I'm an avid reader and am always looking for new books to read in this genre.

My favorite series is The Breeds by Lora Leigh. I've read the series a handful of times and still love it.

If I can get a paranormal on my Kindle, I'll read it. :-)

K.D. McQuain (kd_mcquain) | 95 comments Hello everyone. I'm new to the group and fairly recent to Goodreads. I have read tons of Paranormal fiction but ony got into the romance sub-genre a few years ago. Now, realizing that the majority of the audience is female, I have been disappointed with the lack of books that are more accessible to the male reader. However, that has encouraged me to throw my own hat into the ring, and I hope to have my debut novel finished later this year. Maybe when I'm finished I can convince some of you to be early readres and let me know if I am on the right track.

Tammy | 12 comments I've been a member of Goodreads I think for maybe a year now and theres not a day that goes by I don't open up the website just to look and see whats what? I have just joined a couple of grps now within the last 4 months or so and I'm so glad I did, you wouldn't even guess all the infor you can get from different view points and being able to contribute to different discussions. Welcome and can't wait to see what you write being a male author ya know, no pun intended! lol :-)

Michael Tyger (michaeljt) | 9 comments Hello, Okay, so I'm a guy. So I think I'm probably in the minority here. And for my second strike - yes I write. I have written one full book to completion. And I want to be a part of this group to learn something important - 'what women want' in the category of Urban Fantasy and fantasy romance. I have loved the Fantasy genre for a long time. I also do enjoy 'good' romantic elements in a story. By good - I mean well written and believable. Unfortunately I have a man's perspective. Although, growing up with all women, helped. I had my mother, 2 sisters, my mother's friend and her 2 daughters all in the same house with me. That being said, I still need to have insight for developing my stories. I am so glad your group exists and I hope to be able to offer something to it as well as get something out of it. Thank you.

Patti (pfurlano) | 5 comments Welcome! Looking forward to your work. I have often thought a male could bring a different and fresh perspective to the genre.

message 1614: by Rusty (new)

Rusty Nugent (RustyNugent) | 10 comments My first horror movie was From Hell It Came!, I was two years old. Then, Trilogy of Terror with the late Karen Black. When I was three years old my parents brought me to see Jaws at the theater. I fell in love with that movie. And I found out my mother had a Readers Digest Condensed Book of Jaws by Peter Benchley. I begged her to read it to me all the time, until she told me that I needed to learn to read so I could read the book myself. In third grade, I was reading Jaws while the other kids were reading kid books. I saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre at the drive in I was age three. Then, I saw The Car staring James Brolin when I was age five. I loved the look of that demonic car.

Then came a little film called Star Wars. It changed my life. But The Car oddly enough is what started me writing. At age six I wrote a book for The Car it was about 4 page. In the third grade, I began writing more often and found it was to my liking and that my peers seemed to like it.

In the early 1980s, three horror films came that made an impact on me. An American Werewolf In London, The Howling, and Wolfen. Thus, my fascination with werewolves began.

When I met my girlfriend and lifemate, we discovered we both liked the same music and had an afinity for these creatures of the night. She begged me to write her a medieval werewolf story. We agreed that it shouldn't be the "typical" tired, traditional tale, so we thought, the werewolf always gets a bad wrap, so let's make him the hero, and thus, "Moonwarriors" was born.

My published my book in Sept. 2004. My mother died Oct. 2004 and 6 weeks later her mother dies in Dec. 2004. In April of 2005 I had a pace maker put in me because my heart is backwards. Then, August 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit and took everything I owned. We all survived though. So, we were homeless for a few months. Next, we moved to Tennessee with my brother Christopher. The group up here that was going to help us with furniture and stuff didn't so we had to get a little here and there, used of course. My second got published in 2009. My girlfriend of 20 years fell down the stairs and crushed three of her disc. So, we moved to another apt. and after 5 years of living there, they kick us out! So, we go back to the town houses. I found out I have congestive Heart Failure and got a new pace maker. I have been working on my third book, Moonwarriors: In An Blackened Dawn. Hopefully, nothing awful will happen.

message 1615: by Fiza (new)

Fiza Hello everyone, nice to meet you. Saw this group, browsed a little and decided to join. I read about anything but fantasy and paranormal reads are my favorites, YA or Adult doesn't matter to me.

I might be one of the few but I love horror as well. First only the movies but then discovered Stephen King and well..had to add horror to my favorite genres as well.

Hope to meet new friends, books and recommendations :)

Donna Cooper (donnajunecooper) | 4 comments Hi! My name is Donna. I read romance pretty exclusively (with the exception of some excellent Science Fiction) and my latest addiction is Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy (to me, most Urban Fantasy is just Paranormal Romance spread across more than one book, sometimes a LOT more than one book, but that's just me!) I also write. My first book was published by Samhain in February 2014 and my second is coming out in June. I look forward to talking about romance!

message 1620: by IndiGo Lori (new)

IndiGo Lori (indigolori) Hello everyone! I'm the US Marketing Assistant for Totally Bound so you'll see me pop in here once a week or so to promote our upcoming releases, contests, giveaways, etc... We specialize in erotic romance so I hope you'll find a book or two that strikes your fancy!

I promise to be respectful of the Self-Promotion rules. I moderate a very large M/M Romance group so I know how frustrating it can be to have promo show up in places where it doesn't belong :)

I haven't ready anything but M/M for about 5 years now but within that genre I still love a good PNR or UF story.

Valentina (vroveri) | 12 comments Hello all! My name is Valentina and I have been a Goodreads member since 2011. I have read a ton of books since my time here, including a lot of different genres, but I have to say the paranormal romance and urban fantasy genres have produced some of the best books I have ever read, so I am very happy to have joined this group.

Recently I've had a dry spell with this genre so if anyone has any good recommendations to give me bring it on! I'd love to know what else is out there that I haven't encountered yet.

Some of my favorite authors include Jeaniene Frost, Karen Marie Moning and J.R. Ward (before her books started getting annoying lol).

Kelly Harmon (kellyaharmon) | 2 comments Hello! I'm Kelly. I like to read all kinds of stuff, but right now UF has really caught my attention. I'm a little tired of vampires currently, but hope to get some good recommendations from this group. :)

message 1635: by Haley (new)

Haley | 1 comments Hey everyone! My name is Haley! I've been apart of the of group for a while now and figured it was time to actually be an active member! I really enjoy reading and I'm a pretty quick reader! I sort if have reading ADD and go in spurts of what I am waiting to read but it usually is any sort if paranormal ie vampire, werewolves, fairies, etc, to erotic, science fiction, historical fiction, let's face it I'll read just above anything! Since I'm a such a fast reader I really like to read series! I am a firm believer in reading the books before I go watch the movie!

As of right now I am a college student studying HCSA, so my main leisure reading usually happens during the winter and summer breaks!

A friend told me about good reads because I never knew what to read next! Great decision on my part!! I will do my best in participating in the discussions and book recs!!!

Nice it meet everyone!!

FantasyLiving Hi everyone.
I'm a working mother of 4 and a huge fan of paranormal romance.
My introduction to this genre was BDB. I tend to love series books, and watching the characters develop during each story.
My favourites are the Psy-changeling series, Archangel series, Demonica series, and IAD. I'm currently reading the Rylee Adamson series, and enjoying all the different creatures she encounters.
I look forward to getting to know people here, and reading some of the recommendations posted here.

My name is...Erryn (clearly) and I've recently been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (I can't explain it simply, if your interested, maybe google it? I can answer a few questions, but not many)

Reading has kept my head on straight. It keeps me sane. I like the idea of; idk, alternate universes where everything rocks. You know?

I have a soft spot for vampires :3 omg, they're just perfect...but so are shifters.

Take that Twilight ;}

Well...I think I'm about finished. Sorry for such a huge intro :$

Much love, everyone!

Happy reading! Xo

Ariel Seashore | 2 comments Hi

I just joined this group a little while ago. :)
I've been a fan of Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy for ages!

I have a little bit of an obsession with Vampires and I recently started liking books about Demons.

Ummm... my favourite authors are Lauren Kate (Fallen), Rachel Caine (Morganville Vampires & Weather Wardens), Cassandra Clare (Mortal Instruments), L. J. Smith (Vampire Diaries) and Veronica Roth (Divergent trilogy). There's probably more, but those are the ones i can think of right now. :)

I'm also a big fan of anime (and manga) and I love Merlin (It's one of the few TV shows I watched to completion).

I really like this group! Nice to meet everyone. :)

message 1650: by Lana (last edited Jun 07, 2014 09:47AM) (new)

Lana Hart (lana_hart) | 6 comments Hi everyone! I'm Lana Hart, author of The Curious Collectibles Series, a series of paranormal romance/mystery/horror novels (and a free prequel novella coming soon!). My debut novel came out May 30th and I'm already working on the second in the series.

But enough about that! I like to read a variety of books. Urban fantasy, paranormal romance, horror, mystery, crime, sci-fi, post-apocalyptic/dystopian, regular fantasy (is there such a beast?), young adult, romantic suspense... I'm willing to give anything a try!

Some of my favorite authors are Thomas Harris, Dean Koontz, John Saul, Clive Barker, Ransom Riggs, Brian Jacques, Garth Nix, Jeffery Deaver, Douglas Adams, George R. R. Martin, and R.L. Stine (LOVED his young adult series, The Fear Street Saga).

Some of my favorite books are The Lovely Bones, Jodi Picoult's Nineteen Minutes, Jeffery Deaver's The Coffin Dancer, Sabriel by Garth Nix, The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley, and anything by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Oh, and The Blackstone Chronicles by John Saul. Those were a huge inspiration to me!

Writing like what's in TV shows like Sleepy Hollow, Once Upon a Time, and Castle are what I look for in romances, so if anyone has any recommendations, I'm all ears!
