message 1504: by Dani (new)

Dani Harper (goodreadscomdaniharper) Thanks Pat! I'm still feeling my way around (ie blundering and flailing), but I hope to participate more as time goes on.

James Snyder | 3 comments Hello I just joined this group. Ive been on goodreads for a year now but I decided to join groups so I could be more social on here. My name is James. I like to read paranormal Romance and Urban fantasy so this seemed like a good one to join

L. MacNaughton (lmacnaughton) | 4 comments Hi Kerr, Dani, and James! I'm Laurence, and I just joined Goodreads, so I'm still finding my way around, too. I'm an urban fantasy and thriller author, and I'm always curious to find out what people are reading. My agent just recommended Daughter of the Sword by Steve Bein. Anybody else read it yet?

Not familiar with that one (but will check it out!) I like the Iron Druid series by Kevin Hearne and the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.

message 1509: by L. (new)

L. MacNaughton (lmacnaughton) | 4 comments Thanks Dani! I haven't heard of Iron Druid before -- I'll have to check that out.

message 1510: by James (new)

James Snyder | 3 comments I have read the witches discovery books and liked them a lot. Can anyone recommend any other books similar to those? I also read the physic book of Deliverance Dane which was also excellent. I guess I'm sort of into witches right now Lol.

message 1511: by Dani (last edited Nov 01, 2013 04:42PM) (new)

Dani Harper (goodreadscomdaniharper) Laurence, the first one is Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, Book One). Warning -- these stories are addictive!

message 1512: by Dani (new)

Dani Harper (goodreadscomdaniharper) James - I really like the Deborah Harkness trilogy too. The third installment is called The Book of Life, and is expected out in July.

message 1513: by James (new)

James Snyder | 3 comments Dani- I can't wait until that comes out. They were quick reads cause I liked them so much.

message 1514: by Vannessa (new)

Vannessa | 18 comments Thought I would say a quick little hello as I have just joined your group. I'm Vannessa and I've been on Goodreads for a while now, but fancied doing some other reading challenges and loved the ones in this group. I only really read UF/PNR books, with occasional dips into zombie apocalypse/fantasy/thriller books.

My favourite series in no particular order include Chicagoland Vampires, Dark Hunter, Elemental Assassin, Cassie Palmer, Night Huntress, Sookie Stackhouse, Women of the Otherworld, Sabina Kane, Dark Days, Jaz Parks, Downside Ghosts, Mercy Thompson, Anita Blake (well the first few books for definite), Kitty Norville, Shifters. I'm sure I've missed some out but you get the gist of what I like to read :)

Looking forward to joining in some fun challenges and finding some more to add to my favourites!

message 1515: by Dani (new)

Dani Harper (goodreadscomdaniharper) Hi Vannessa! Love the Cassie Palmer series by Karen Chance too. The only one I love more is her Dorina Basarab series -- I think I relate to the heroine more in that one.
Night Huntress, Mercy Thompson (also the Alpha & Omega series from Patricia Briggs), Sookie Stackhouse, Anita Blake, and Dark Hunter are on my shelves. The rest are new to me, and that's one of the great things about chatting with other readers -- I get intro'd to some fab stories!

message 1516: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t | 539 comments great to have you Vanessa -- your favorites are our favorites and of course you'll fine many more. see in the threads

message 1517: by Ahnah (new)

Ahnah (ladyliriel) | 14 comments Hello everyone! I joined recently and wanted to introduce myself.

I am a lover of books to the full extent, my tiny home looks more like a library than anything else. No kidding, 6 bookshelves full of goodies waiting to be read. :)

I love Paranormal fiction, Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, Dystopian, Fantasy, some horror and sci-fi. Never a regular romance novel on my shelves and I do not relish very many of the YA novels that are being published right now.

I think that's enough, and it's a pleasure to meet fellow readers with similar tastes.

message 1518: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t | 539 comments hi Ahnahm welcome. You'll need more shelves and to be close to the library with all the new books ad writers. have fun

message 1519: by Dani (new)

Dani Harper (goodreadscomdaniharper) Hi Ahnah! I like all of those genres too -- and I also do not read YA.

message 1520: by Vanna (new)

Vanna B. (vannab) | 3 comments Newbie here! Reader/author from Philadelphia. I love all types of books. Thanks for having me :)

message 1521: by Amber (new)

Amber Park (amberbamber) | 3 comments Hi Everyone

I joined this site because I love reading fantasy/ mainstream fiction and wanted to connect with like minded people. My friends would describe me as shy hehehe but once i get going i can be a bit of a chatterbox :):)

What else....well... I like books by C.S Lewis, JRR Tolkien and Stephanie Meyer among others. At the moment I am reading a interesting book titled Emanuel Stone And The Phoenix Shadow by Isaac Solomon. It was recommended to me by a close friend and I must admit I wasn't expecting much. However to my surprise I've found it to be a very deep story about hope, following the journey of an ordinary young man who is coming to grips with his identity in a troubled world. So far it is the most entertaining book I've read this year as it mixes many themes and challenges certain stereotypes held of young people by addressing issues not usually attributed to youth.

message 1522: by Dani (new)

Dani Harper (goodreadscomdaniharper) Hi Vanna, hi Amber!

message 1523: by Ahnah (new)

Ahnah (ladyliriel) | 14 comments Thanks for the welcome!!! Much appreciated. Pat, I ran out of space for bookshelves!!
:( Lol.

Thanks Dani! I love meeting fellow non YA readers. Haha.

message 1524: by Vannessa (new)

Vannessa | 18 comments Thank you for the welcome :) I'm another reader who doesn't especially read YA although I do like some that are not too soppy like the Iron Fey series (I think this is actually quite funny because of Puck) and the Chronicles of Nick by Sherrilyn Kenyon, although I don't really see it as YA as it's a spin off of one of my fave adult series.

message 1525: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Wilder | 12 comments Hello!
So after banging my head against course-books at uni for too long I decided to dust off my kindle and get on the goodreads-train for some inspirational book-talks of the non-academic variety. And since I adore urban fantasy and paranormal romance... I landed here! *waves*

My fantasy-obsession started when my parents read The Hobbit before bedtime way back when, progressed through Diana Wynne Jones, LJ Smith & Meredith Ann Pierce among other fabulous storytellers and has more recently included SVM and the glorious discovery of Jet Mykles' Dark Elves series.
The newest addition to my kindle is a promo by Elizabeth Hunter that I can't wait to get started on.

message 1526: by J. (new)

J. Woods | 3 comments Hello guys and dolls!

just came across this group and so glad I found it! I'm J - I'm an author of Paranormal Romance and love to lose myself in anything paranormal/scifi/fantasy/urban romance.
I have an issue with falling in love with fictional characters... but it's something I'm working on ;)

Cheers!
J. Woods

I'm really glad I found this group and looking forward to some great recommendations from you all. I love to read pretty much anything romance wise but I primarily search for paranormal and sci-fi romance. Though I joined Goodreads a few years ago, I didn't do much with it and so I consider myself new here.

message 1536: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Lopes (rachellopes) | 3 comments Hi everyone!
I'm a student majoring in Library Studies at the University of Coimbra in Portugal, after trying to major in Translation, but quiting because I hated the politics of it.
I started reading PNR with the Dark Carpathians series by Christine Feehan but have since become disillusioned with it. Now I read Kresley Cole, Gena Showalter, J. R. Ward, Sherrilyn Kenyon and Nalini Singh, though I've been mostly reading YA and Romance books for the last months.
Besides reading I like watching TV shows (I watch 35 different ones), painting, listening to music and crocheting.
I guess that's it.
Kisses to all!

PepperP0t | 539 comments Welcome all -- sorry I haven't dropped by this thread sooner to say we're glad to have you. No matter your book taste there is something here for you. The different conversations in the threads will help with what's new, help clear those book shelves and give you a place to talk to people that like the same kinds of books you do.

I'm more of a PNR than Urban Fantasy but find time for both as well as a couple other genre's. I'm sure you'll see my name flitting thought in dhte different conversations and games. Just grab a thread and have some fun!

message 1538: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Group!

I am very excited to be her. I am a huge fan of Paranormal and Urban Fantasies. I'll also be helping to moderate the conversations on here.

message 1540: by Laurie (new)

Laurie Olerich | 1 comments Hello everyone, I'm Laurie Olerich. I'm really new to Good Reads and groups in general so bear with me if I forget to respond for a day or so. It's not intentional neglect, I swear! I'm recovering from a wrist injury and can't type as much as I want to. I'll be more engaged in a few weeks (fingers crossed!). I love paranormal and urban fantasy books. I write a cross-genre series that includes both. Just released two and am diving head first into my writing career. Yes, I'm terrified of all the things I do not know. I'm hoping to learn 8 million things between now and 1 Jan... :)

message 1541: by [deleted user] (new)

message 1549: by Shereen (new)

Shereen Vedam | 35 comments Hi there.

My name is Shereen. I'm a paranormal/fantasy romance writer/reader from Canada, and unlike my cousins who freeze in parkas and snow shoes and chat up Wendigos (ogres) in Ontario, I'm part of the crowd who prefers to go barefoot and shorts in winter and chat up water dragons off the coast of beautiful British Columbia, eh! :)

I read the rules on self-promo and plan to stick to them. As such, looking forward to being part of this thriving fun community.

message 1550: by Tracey (new)

Tracey Hi! My name is Tracey. I'm a huge fan of Paranormal Romance. Black Dagger Brotherhood is probably my favorite series right now even though I'm kind of disappointed in the last book. :/ It could have been so much better, so much more! Oh well. I'm hoping to find more series to love here in this group :)
