Introductions!
New to the group, and wanted to drop in and say hello. I fall on the Urban fantasy side of the fence, though my better half, Patricia Lee Macomber, writes some interesting paranormal romance stuff. I enjoy series fiction, and dark fantasy, and have a history of writing and reading things involved vampires and creatures of the night. Arguably, my novels This is My Blood and Nevermore, A Novel of Love, Loss & Edgar Allan Poe are romance of a sort... Anyway, saying hey from near the Great Dismal Swamp in NC.
Hiya David you & your "better half" sound absolutely rad:) can't wait to check out your writing ... Welcome to the reads! I'm always around come say hello:) lets argue books:) Clare Dooley
Hey I am Britt, I am in my early twenties and love books. I can not go a day without reading. My favs are Sherrilyn Kenyon and J.R. Ward. I read everything though.
Hello everyone! My name is Jamie. I love reading (of course) and enjoy urban fantasy and paranormal romance in particular. I can't go a day without reading either. My husband goes through phases where he'll read every day for awhile and then not read for months. I think that's so strange and don't know how he can go without reading for all that time. Anyway, I'm glad to be here and just wanted to say hi!
Hi, I'm Elizabeth! Data analyst by day, urban fantasy fan by night. So big a fan that I officially became an urban fantasy author 2 1/2 weeks ago. Most of my favorites in the recent past have been in the YA genre, but I'm looking to get back into reading more adult UF/PNR. Hoping to get some good recommendations from the group!
Hello! I'm Madeline. I love romance in all of its iterations especially where it intersects with my other great love, fantasy. I live in Brooklyn and work at Random House (I work for an imprint that publishes mostly literary fiction and non-fiction, so I still get to be a fan). My all time favorite in this category is Jacqueline Carey but I also love Kresley Cole, Nalini Singh, Jayne Ann Krentz, Lev Grossman, Lee Carroll, Julie Kagawa and the list goes on!
Hi Everyone! I'm Abby and I have been reading Paranormal Romance for probably 2 1/2 - 3 years now. I'm an addict and no amount of "vampire's anonymous" is going to help me :) I love these groups because it gives me a lot of great reading ideas. I've also gotten some reading idea from Twitter of all places recently. It's all just feeding the addiction. Can't wait to read your posts. Thanks!
Hi all! I'm Pam. I found this group through some friends. I love all (Adult, YA, etc) Urban Fantasy/Paranormal/Romance, and I tend to devour books in on sitting (hence the black luggage under my eyes). Some of my favorite series are: Fever by Karen Marie Moning, Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward, Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs, Black Wings by Christina Henry, Black Sun's Daughter by MLN Hanover, and Black London by Caitlynn Kittridge.
I'm looking forward to getting to know people and discover new books! Thanks.
Hi. My name is Rachel and I'm from New Zealand. I joined up about two days ago but had no time to write anything - busy with work. Love paranormal themed books like Karen Marie Moning, Ilona Andrews (magic series) and like a million other authors.
Greetings and Salutations~My name is Isis (pronounced like the Egyptian Goddess - eye-sis [apologies for not using proper phonetics but am a bit rushed]). I'm from the small state of Vermont in the USA, but have been lucky enough to live other places and travel a fair bit, and one thing I've found everywhere I go is that a love of books is a common language :-)
I love to read, always have and always will. It is a compulsion, to the extreme that if I am out of books I will read the cereal box at breakfast, the toothpaste tube, and, well, basically anything in print.
I love reading paranormal/urban fantasty/historical romance (but more at the level of Diana Gabaldon's 'Voyager' series than the Harlequin level, simply due to the quality of the writing and the originality of the stories). I also read a fair amount of YA books, but enjoy some non-fiction as well, including biographies.
Off the top of my head some of my all-time favorite authors include: Diana Gabaldon, Jacqueline Carey, Tad Williams, Stephen R. Donaldson, Neal Stephenson, William Gibson, Patricia Briggs, J.D. Robb (a.k.a. Nora Roberts), Karen Marie Moning, J.A. Huss, Douglas Adams, Douglas Copeland, Mercedies Lackey, Piers Anthony (when I was in my early teens), Orson Scott Card, Ilona Andrews (particularly the Kate Daniels pieces), Anne Bishop, and oh so many more... Looking back at this list I see it appears I lean more towards Sci-Fi, but that simply isn't an accurate picture. Must just be where my mind is (since I'm currently reading the 'I Am Just Junco' series by JA Huss).
I look forward to getting other great author suggestions from you all, as well as meeting new folks and having lively chats about books!
Hello Im Arielle and I love to read, especially any books with romance and HEA's. Nice to meet you all!
Hi I'm Sam and I love to read, any thing and every thing, my friends and family call me a bookaholic.
Hello! My husband & I are “Warneke Reading” and we are super excited to be a part of Goodreads!! Our passion for reading has led us to begin a business of proofreading. We love books! Some of our favorites are: The Lord of the Rings series and the original Dune series. My husband loves Terry Brooks and Tim Dorsey. I’m a huge fan of Charlaine Harris and Michael Crichton. We both love almost any genre, but probably have read more in fantasy and scifi. I also love classic writers like Austen and Dickens. And my husband enjoys graphic novels like Watchmen.
Hello ! ! I'm Peggy and I'm new to goodreads ! Im 21 and i really really enjoy reading ( aside from videogames and stuff..) I havent practised my english writting, for a long time,so forgive me for the possible eye-blinding grammar mistakes ill make! I study German language and literature, mostly in the field of linguistics and im really intresting in any kind of written thing, i myself have give it a try of writting some stuff some years ago, mostly some sort stories ans poems but i never got the courage to do anything with those aport from publish some in my highschools graduation magazine(and trust me it was a big step for me since im really shy i think). My addiction on fantashy/paranormal/romance novels started with i think it was either vampire diaries or Evermore eitherway i think that must have been about 4-5 years ago.Of course i used to read as a kid too, harry poter, Artemis Faul, Eragon and so on...before that even my mother used to read at me, im really graetfull she got me into the wonderfull world of books and fiktion.. i think however that there are yet many things/books/stories to discover! Anyways,
Nice to be in this group ! hoping to meet n' chat with you all !
Hey I'm Casey... I'm 24 and have 3 kids so at night is pretty much the only time I get to read... But I've loved reading ever since I could remember...
Hi! I'm Karen. I'm a massage therapist/hack writer living in Metairie, Louisiana, a 10 minute drive from New Orleans depending on traffic. If it's Mardi Gras season, the drive is more like eternity and a temporary break from sanity.I like paranormal romance books like the Anita Blake series (only the first five books-after that, I lost interest), Kim Harrison's Hollows series, and most of Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse books as well as her Harper Connelly Mysteries. I also like futuristic sci-fi books and mysteries like J.D. Robb's In Death series that I think would be right up your alley, TDF, and am just starting to get interested in Steampunk. I've never read 50 Shades of Gray. Please do not judge me. I plan on reading it someday just to see what all the fuss is about. I'm thinking kinky sex, but I've been misled about these things before.
My biggest wish is to someday win the lottery and buy my own private island like Burgh Island, the place that inspire Agatha Christie's novels And Then There Were None and Evil Under the Sun. My second biggest wish is to sing on Broadway. Since I have a greater chance of being struck by lightning than either of these things happening, I'm not exactly holding my breath. This is just as well since I would probably waste the money on strippers and silly string, and my singing voice has been known to frighten small children and send animals into fits of violent rage. I'm hoping instead to be a well known published author beloved by all. Again. Not holding my breath.
Hey everyone! I'm Ivory! Check out my group Dragon Mages and Other Fantasies. Click on the "Polls" section where you find "Discussions" and "Videos." Please help me out with this survey for my Sociology class. thnx ;)
I'm Rebekah. I am a writer and I am currently trying to get more to read. I am trying to keep with the genres I write: Horror, paranormal, occult, thriller and drama. (I write a little romance in my work, but I don't write the genre romance)I write mostly about: vampires, ghosts, and urban legends.
Hello! I am Michelle Mogil, an author just getting my feet wet. I have one novel on the launch pad and a couple more in the works. Usually, I manage to read a book a week, but lately I've had to curtail it in favor of writing. I enjoy just about any genre of fiction, but I've always been particularly drawn to the unseen, the unknown, and the undead. I'm looking forward to what this group has to say.
Hey! My name is Xenia (Zen-ya) i love to read paranormal romantic drama. If i really, and i mean REALLY, like a book i can finish it in up to 2 days. I just love reading about the lengths people will go to just to be with someone they love. When i read i get so into the books sometimes that i cry, laugh, or smile like a lunatic for no reason, its hilarious.
Hi! I'm Cassandra and I love reading paranormal romance, although I do stray into other genres of romance. I am always looking for new books, especially series to enjoy.
Hi all, I'm Candy Hart (yes it's my real name). I just joined this group after finding it on the page of a friend and fellow derby teammate. I love to read anything I can get my grubby little paws on, but paranormal romance and urban fantasy hold a special place in my nerdy little heart. I spend my work time taking care of dangerous sea creatures, and my off time hitting people on roller skates, but the rest of my time I devote to reading. A lot. My husband likens it to a drug addiction. I really can't deny it.
Hello every body! My name is Clare Dargin and I totally stumbled upon this site when I was on a blog regarding paranormal romance lovers such as myself. I'm glad to be here and since I am addicted to my online life...I know I will be chatting with you guys often!

Hey guys! I've been a member of Goodreads for a while but have never really used it much. So, I'm kinda new at all of this! I just ask everyone to be gentle with me ;) I am a author who just signed with a publishing house in March. This world is still oh so knew to me.
Hi! I am Troy and I am 34. I really enjoy reading Urban Fantasy, but I read a lot of different genres as well. My Favorite UF series is the Darkfever series by Karen Marie Moning. Absolutely loved it, and it turned me onto UF. Look forward to seeing recommendations.

Hi everyone!! I am an avid reader of paranormal romance, urban fantasy, science fiction, and horror. I like zombies, vampires, werewolves, faeries, and anything else otherworldly.I have three children although 2 are grown and a young one going to 7th grade. Hey everyone! My name is Scarlett and I'm a screen writer and esoteric researcher currently living in the shadow of the castle of Montsegur in the French Pyrenees. I spend a lot of time tracking through ancient ruins, decoding old grimoires, and trying to reconstruct the threads of lost folklore. I've just finished my first paranormal romance book Saurimonde which was an absolute blast to research and write. I'm an avid readers of many genres and if I started listing my favorite authors it would take all day. I'm really new to Goodreads and am just starting to get the lie of the virtual land so to speak
Thanks! And it's excellent to be here!
Hello! I’m Catherine Spangler and I’m from Texas. I’ve been an avid reader all my life. I always leaned toward paranormal stories, starting with the fairy tales my parents read to me. My favorite authors are Christine Feehan, Nalini Singh, J.D. Robb, Kay Hooper, and J.R. Ward, just to name a few. I like all kinds of paranormal romances, and love stories with a fresh premise or unique twist.I’m also the author of the Shielder series (futuristic romances I’m re-releasing this summer) and the Sentinel series (urban fantasy romances currently available). I don’t think I could have created my stories without the influences of all the wonderful books I’ve read and will continue to read.
I look forward to discussing books and discovering new reads.
Nice to meet all of you!
Catherine
Hi, I'm Lynn and I'm a bookaholic. I'm addicted to urban fantasy and enjoy dystopian, some PNR/YA, and I'm always looking for something a bit different. Show me a good UF tale with lots of paranormal creatures, action and amusing sidekicks and I'm generally happy.I have a massive book collection and a tbr that could bury me, so I'm hoping to get some reading done this summer to make room for all those lovely new releases this year...
Hi everyone! My name is Brooke and am excited to join this group. I am an avid reader and writer, but unfortunately I have a "real" job that sucks up a lot of the time that could be spent engaged in a story. Ah well, I am sure if I quit my job and moved under the bridge on front street that my beagle would be very upset, so I guess I will keep my job... :-P
I look forward to getting to know this group! :-)

Hi my name is Lou, I live in Kent in the UK and love reading! I read whenever I can normally on my kindle but have the kindle app on my phone too so I can squeeze in reading whenever I get chance. Main fave genres are PNR, UF and anything with a sci-fi twist. I am new to GoodReads, I am a friendly chatty person who loves discussing a good book and am so pleased I have found somewhere where everyone else is just as besotted with books as I am :0)
Senni wrote: "Hi everyone and greetings from Finland! I just joined Goodreads but I have been reading the book reviews here for a long time. Dreamfever & Shadowfever were my faves in the series. :)
Just realized I've been lurking in this group awhile and never introduced myself.I'm Lexi, I'm 27 with two cats (yes I'm that girl) and shelves of books.
I sample a little bit of every genre but most nights in I prefer my fiction with a lot of fantasy, a drop of sci-fi, a twist of romance, and a splash of realism. I prefer witches to vampires, but I prefer both over raucous werewolves, I'm just not a dog person even in type.
I've also been working on my own 'urban' fantasy novel, but I'm creating an entirely new mythology for it so it is a labor of organization and continuity more than anything. It will probably suck but I've been writing the story in my head since my mom gave me my first Goosebumps book as a child. It must be released eventually.
Anyway an idea of what I like (because I do get picky) I've never been happy than when I started reading A Discovery of Witches, or it's sequel Shadow of Night, I finally found a story that wasn't all mush, but wasn't all action. I love that it has real history in it, because I enjoy learning as much as reading. I still reread the Night Circus often.
I think that's why I got into Christine Warren's the Others series, (well that and the fact that half the book make me fan myself they're so hot), Deborah Harkness' All Souls Trilogy, and so on.
I don't like being completely stripped from reality, I just enjoy that little pocket of possibility, the things you can't quite see from the corner of your eye.
Also don't judge my writing abilities based on this comment. I get scattered without making creating very specific outlines when I type. My head just runs circles around ideas.
Anyway glad to be here to find moar books to sip on.
I'm Anne, and I've just joined this very large group. I'm also a moderator on one of the other review groups here at Goodreads. As I'm the author of a new paranormal release The Siren's Tale I have joined the group to find other writers/readers with similar tastes.

Hello all!My name is Emily and I am 24 years old. I just happened to stumble across Good Reads while looking for a new book to read and cannot believe how amazing this community is. I am still trying to figure out how the reading challenges work in this particular group so any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Looking forward to reading along with everyone!

Hi there! I'm Rachel and I'm new to goodreads. I love reading and wish I could write. It seems I'm more of a digester than a regurgitator. Lol bad analogy maybe, but isn't all writing just a artful synthesis of what you've taken in during your life? My favorite genre is paranormal romance and love books that tie in historical aspects. I do enjoy other genres, but right now I am on a paranormal kick that just won't go away. I'm trying to find new indie authors as well since I have never tried indie stuff before. I've already found. couple authors I'm about to read over the weekend. Not really into fireworks so ill more than likely read some tonight.
I'm James L. Wilber, I'm a writer and reader, and I appreciate Urban Fantasy that has "emotional realism." I don't want to read another series where all the protagonists are beautiful, rich, and powerful. I want to read real characters who interact with the paranormal in thought-provoking ways.

Back in 1995 or 1996 or thereabouts, I was introduced to "Vampire: The Masquerade" Role-Playing Game. As gamemaster for the campaign, I created an entire backstory for all the non-player characters and I ended up enjoying my own story more than the game. So, I figured I'd write a book about it, replete with vampires and clubkids and goth chicks and Siouxsie & The Banshees songs. There weren't many vampire books out back then, except Bram Stoker and Anne Rice. Having decided to add a lot of Celtic dark faerie lore into the story, I knew I had something special. Dark fantasy. Lovestory. Cool music. Good underground clubscene for the setting. No one else had ever written anything like it.
Years later, everyone jumped on the bandwagon. I'm not claiming other authors stole my ideas - after all, I've never sold enough books to claim my writing ever influenced anyone. However, I will say lots of authors began to tap into the collective unconscious of the same path, and follow my lead.
Next thing I knew, there were scores of authors with similar themes and categories for what I had done. No longer considered "horror" or "dark fantasy", my tale was more accurately called "paranormal romance" or "urban fantasy" - lo and behold, that is how www.TheVampireNoctuaries.com became categorized as such, completely unintentionally.
