Pandora Richardson (pandorar) | 12 comments I would like to welcome all the new members! I too am one having only joined a couple of weeks ago, but I am so happy to have found goodreads and this group. Feel free to add me if you haven't so far and I promise that once I get through my list of books to read which include finishing the Steve Jobs bio, the latest Dark Tower, Sookie, and Anita books, I will make sure all of your books are on the list and will read them all AND review them. I'm also open to advice as I'm a first time author and haven't a clue what I'm doing! LOL

Christine (bloodandmatzah) | 4 comments Greetings! I'm recently self-published and hoping to spread the word about Jewish, time-travelling vampires. It's great to have the opportunity to communicate with other readers/writers! Hope you enjoy and I look forward to following other lovers of the paranormal!

"Of course, you realize this means war! Help me win a bet with my husband. I've got a prime rib dinner in the wings if I win. And well, we all know what my husband wins if I don't; )

I'm trying to reach 1,000 hits and 10 new flags from other countries on my website http://bloodandmatzah.com and 25 legitimate posts on my blog http://blogandmatzah.com by May 31.

Mama needs a fancy dinner at The Outback! Thanks in advance for your support. Send me a link to your site/blog and I'll return the favor.

Happy reading/writing to all my new indie author friends!"

Rebecca Hawker | 40 comments Hi

I am Rebecca and fairly new to messaging on Goodreads. I love this genre, both reading and writing about it. :-)

I am currently trying out new Kindle books in this genre like Lauren Burd and Amanda Hocking but also like Rachel Caine books, LJ Smith....

message 1155: by Cege (new)

Cege Smith (cegesmith) | 5 comments Hi,

I'm Cege. I don't think I've met a vampire I didn't like (good, bad, gory, horror, sparkly, it doesn't matter!). Stephen King and Dean Koontz were huge influences on my reading early on, and I pretty much devoured anything paranormal I could get my hands on.

I branched out as I got older, but when push comes to shove, I'll pick up a book with a vampire or witch in it before any kind of melodramatic, tug-at-your-heart strings, sweeping literary epic. (Although Scarlett will always have a special place in my heart.) I am addicted to B-rated horror movies, although I have to admit that I don't go for the gore the way that I used to.

I go in these weird swings with my reading- I won't read anything for a month or two and then go on a binge and read 5 books over the course of a week. It's like my brain sometimes doesn't have a setting between crawl and overdrive. I was excited to find this group though because the book market out there can be kind of overwhelming. It's cool to be able to find someplace to hang, chat, and get some good book recommendations in my favorite genre.

I've also published some books (all with a paranormal bent of course) and I'll accept all friend requests that come my way. Looking forward to chatting with you!

message 1158: by Janis (new)

Janis (nordicgoddess) | 1 comments Hello, I'm Janis and I'm new to both Goodreads and to this genre. In fact I never heard UF and had to look it up!
Like many others my fascination with book crazes in general and more specifically the non-stop media attention given to Fifty Shades made me go outside my norm of historic fiction and check out this romance arena.
I am loving all the suggestions here and look forward to some great conversations.

Jason Craft (vigroco) | 14 comments Hello all! I'm Jason and have lived nearly all my life in Northwest Louisiana. I grew up reading scifi and fantasy, but have recently come to enjoy urban fantasy and the occasional paranormal romance story. Can't wait to see what kinds of interesting discussions you guys have in this side of the fiction pond.

Ten days, over 1,000 web hits, 25 blog posts (by the skin of my teeth) and 6 foreign flags. Many huge thanks to all of my new friends and friends I have not yet met who visited my site and told a friend from outside the USA to take a gander onto my site http://bloodandmatzah.com/

You guys rock!

Unfortunately, I was four flags short so I didn't win the bet with my husband. Looks like Mickey D's instead of prime rib at The Outback. : (

message 1163: by Sally (new)

Sally Duncan | 4 comments Hi, I'm Sally and I'm a newly self-published author of a paranormal romance/erotica novella. I grew up with sci-fi and fantasy novels (my parents say I learned to read before I learned to walk lol!) and it has always been a love of mine. I've written from a young age and enjoy sitting down with a good book :) My Kindle was a god-send as I devour books so I've always got a new one on hand now :)

I am looking forward to communicating with other readers and writers :)

Elle (louiselesley) Hi!

My name is Elle. I've went of a bit of a treasure hunt of groups tonight and found this one!

I'm 23 and I absolutely love to read but time is just too hard to find when you are studying so I don't read as much as some!

Hope everyone is well :)

message 1184: by Carrie (new)

Carrie Vaughn (carriefulkvaughn) | 1 comments I've been lurking here since February and I still haven't posted anything in the group, so I thought perhaps this is the time and place.

I've had a love of paranormal since my early teens and branched out into horror shortly thereafter. I was in my twenties before I discovered fantasy and sci-fi and then stumbled upon my first urban fantasy a few years ago. I'll read pretty well anything at least once.

I fancy myself a writer, although I've barely had anything published. My hobbies, outside of reading and writing, involve ball-joint dolls, cosplay and World of Warcraft. I obsessively read twitter and keep a randomly updated blog about books and writing and sometimes rambles about the games I play or little stories about my life that keep cropping up in my head. I'm pretty active every year with NaNoWriMo and I'm one of the Municipal Liaisons for Columbus.

I have grand hopes of one day finishing a novel, editing it and having it published. I'm also terrible at writing about myself. XD I'll try to be around more and get to know all of you.

message 1185: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Hawker | 40 comments Lovely to meet you Meagan. I share your passion for a good book. It's a lovely gift to pass on to young ones too, my children are 2 and 5 and both share my passion for the written word

message 1186: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Hi all, Tellulah Darling here. I'm on a bunch of other romance and YA groups, but as I was sitting here on a rainy Friday night, realizing that what I really wanted to read most right now is Iced and At Last (both of which I have to wait months for), I thought I'd like to have others to gush about these series with. Looking forward to chatting with you all.

message 1187: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle0613) | 9 comments Hello, my name is Michelle and I am a book addict. Born and raised in San Francisco. I love to read, mainly UF and the occasional PNR. Lately though I've been reading a lot of YA books. I also love animals and I have several pets. I hope to be a writer someday. It's nice to meet you all! :)

message 1188: by Steelwhisper (new)

Steelwhisper | 140 comments Hi everyone, I am Steelwhisper and write character-driven SF, fantasy and urban fantasy/PRN heavily tinged with erotic themes.

I hesitate to call what I write outright romance, as I don't believe in many if not most of the romance tropes.

Happy to be here!

message 1192: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Hawker | 40 comments @Melissa

Yes, I am definitely looking forward to it. I've read a few books lately within the genre but really got hooked on Dead Beautiful. Found it really good. :-)

After the ending....wondering where the next book leads...

message 1193: by Anne (new)

Anne | 8 comments Hi, my name is Anne & I have become a bit of a junkie of the urban fantasy genre - I totally blame True Blood and it went down hill from there. I stumbled across True Blood between 2nd & 3rd series, do you know at this point I didn't even know what Twilight was.

I am long time reader of more traditional fantasy - it was an interesting transition to Urban Fantasy - wasn't expecting the amount of sex that was in the books. There is little or none in Fantasy I was reading.

On another note - is there a list of the acronyms - after seeing a load already & have NO IDEA what they are referring to.

message 1194: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Hawker | 40 comments Seen some great acronyms in this forum, again which I hadn't heard of. Such as.....TSTL - too stupid to live!

message 1196: by Lissa (new)

Lissa (vaskania) | 1 comments Peeking in to say hi. Just switched from Shelfari and liking it so far. I enjoy Paranormal Romance and more weird/sick/twisted/disturbing books (see: PZB's Exquisite Corpse). Currently, I'm on a break from Sunny's Monere series and reading Closer by Dennis Cooper.

Mrs. Bella Cullen 4ever (Vampire-addict) | 2 comments Hi, my name is Mariah. I am always reading a book. There is never a day when I am not in the middle of a book.

message 1198: by Michaela (new)

Michaela | 147 comments Hi, my name is Michaela. Like everyone else here, I love reading :). My favourite genre's are YA, Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy.

message 1199: by Adina (new)

Adina West (Adina_West) | 5 comments Hi all. Just joined this group, and realised I was among like-minded types when I saw the topics on True Blood/Vampire Diaries. They are both on my must watch list!

I started off loving paranormal romance (authors like Nalini Singh and J.R. Ward) and then moved on to urban fantasy (Charlaine Harris).

I come from a family of bookworms and a good part of that can be blamed on the fact that we spent most of our childhood without a television.

I have a young family, and unfortunately don't get as much time to read as I'd like! There are so many great series out there...

message 1200: by Trish (last edited Jul 02, 2012 10:34PM) (new)

Trish Dawson (trishmariedawson) | 15 comments Hi everyone! I'm new to the group, so I'm browsing around and leaving comments here and there too! :) This past December I started writing my own book, and when it was finished I was a bit surprised to find it fell into the Paranormal Urban Fantasy genre...which is funny to me since I wasn't planning on that initially. :)

Being an Indie Author is a lot of fun, but not as much fun as my kids - I have an 8yr old daughter, who I homeschool...and she has a little brother who is 3, and was just diagnosed with highly functioning Autism. They both keep me on my toes, as do our pets - our lovable but neurotic dog is a main character in my book!

I live in San Diego - was born and mostly raised here...so we love going to the beach and generally being outside. We go thru a lot of sunscreen. lol I like to garden too, when I'm not reading or writing, or playing, or teaching, or cleaning.

I was referred to this site AFTER publishing my book but I wish I had found it before, this place is pretty cool! :)

Hope to get to know some of you!! :)~
