Dar (windwhisp) | 3 comments Hullo there! *waves* My name is Dar, and I've always enjoyed reading urban fantasy (among many other genres) but just recently started to delve into the paranormal romance side of things. And I have to say, I'm liking it more and more. ;) This appears to be an awesome place to grow that little seed of interest.

Anyways,

Hi!!

I love the Sookie Stackhouse series and have recently started reading other paranormal romance/urban fantasy books. I have come to enjoy them as well. Can't to seem to get enough of them in fact :)

message 1005: by Dom (new)

Dom (_dominique_p) Hi, I'm Dominique.
I'm 23 and in college. Still kind of trying to decide what to do with my life. Working on completing a degree in nutrition with a minor in English, and may go on to graduate studies in one of those subjects.

I've been lurking around Goodreads for a long time, recently decided to take a more active role! I also started a book blog and a book-centered Youtube channel.

I adore reading SF/fantasy. Most recently I read Karen Marie Moning's Fever Series, which is some wonderful urban fantasy!

Pleased to meet all of you!

message 1006: by Sofia (new)

Sofia | 25 comments Hello all, I'm Sofia, 36 yo, an avid reader since I was 10. I've read more than what I have on my Goodreads account, but end up forgetting many of the books, for my own frustration.

Anyway, along my life have been liking most literature genres, as long as the book is not a depressing story. I tend to like more fantasy/scifi genres.

One year ago, I bumped into a fantasy/erotic book which I liked so much that made me explore a bit more about romance books, having ended up landing on paranormal romances as my favorites. So, I don't know much more than Kresley Cole and J.R. Ward, being the first one my favorite.

Don't know if I'll stick to the genre for a long time, but while I feel addicted to it, I'll be around :)

Darren Poole | 2 comments Hi Everyone,

I'm Darren, a goodreads author. I'm a huge fan of UF, kind of addicted to vampires, werewolves and most things paranormal.

I'm leaning towards the more digital reads these days, I've not bought a paperback for a few months. The only thing I'd say I'm missing with reading more ebooks, is the way a book smells.

I'd really enjoy to start connecting on here with everyone, I love connecting with my readership via emails and the such.

I'm not that new to goodreads, but I've not spread my wings that much in here yet. I'm hoping to change that.

feel free to add me as a friend on here, follow me on twitter @DARREN_POOLE and you can find me on facebook too http://on.fb.me/uirnjz

I'm looking forward to chatting with you all.

Darren.

I have read the bedlam bard books (Mercedes Lackey), Women of Otherworld (Kelly Armstrong), Vampire Academy, Vampire Diaries (LJ Smith) {I read the original copies}, Sookie Stackhouse/Southern Vampire Series, Anita Blake: Vampire hunter, and many more.

Pet Peeve: Do not talk to me about the twilight books, as far as i am concerned the books are nothing but a way to start a nice bon fire

message 1015: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (crimsontyd) Hi all,

My name is Samantha. I live in South Florida and love to read, bike, take pictures, drink coffee, go to the movies, and pull for the University of Alabama! There aren't a ton of ppl in my neck of the woods to discuss books with so I joined goodreads in hopes of remedying that. I look forward to the discussions- and hope I get a lot of friend adds so I can see the reviews and whatnots of those who enjoy the same kinds of books that I do. HINT HINT :) I like the paranormal/urban stuff (KMM, Ilona Andrews, etc), snarky detectives (think Robert B. Parker's Spenser), crazy serial killers (think Tim Dorsey's Serge) and stuff such as that. Look forward to hearing from yall :)

message 1016: by Amy (new)

Amy G (katjaneway) | 13 comments Hi, my name is Amy and I love to read fiction/fantasy/romance. My favorite authors are Kelley Armstrong (who wrote the Otherworld Series and inspired me to write my first trilogy) and Terry Goodkind, a fabulous author who created the world of The Sword of Truth (which is more magic fantasy than vampires and werewolves).
I love to write, and am working on several stories that are fictional fantasy romance.
I'm looking forward to making friends here and getting recommendations for new reads! I always need a book to read, so if anyone has a suggestion, please toss it my way! Thanks!

message 1018: by Rhonda (new)

Rhonda Hi, my name is Rhonda and I'm a read-aholic...oh sorry wrong forum. I love to read. I'm a full time student working on my second Masters degree and a full time wife and mom. I read everything I can get my hands on. I prefer paper copies of book versus ebooks, but sometimes the ebook is just easier to get ahold of on a limited budget. My favorite author is R.A. Salvatore, I really love Drizzt. As long as Drizzt books are being printed I will buy every one. Otherwise I'm always looking for new books to read, in any genre.

message 1019: by Cmkage (new)

Cmkage | 231 comments Hi, my name is Kat. I love to read, especially urban fantasy and paranormal romance books. My favourite Series' are Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews, Mercy Thompson/Alpha&Omega by Patricia Briggs, Vampire Academy/Bloodlines by Richelle Mead as well as the Guild Hunter and the Psy/Changeling books by Nalini Singh. message 1028: by Dominique (last edited Feb 07, 2012 01:27AM) (new)

Dominique (nonbeanery) Hello everyone!
My name is Dominique and (say it with me) I am a book addict :) I was born in Heidelberg, Germany and I am 17 years old. I am current living in Virginia and plan on moving to Oregon next summer for college. I am a big paranormal romance fan. When ever I read books with romance, there has to be a vampire, faerie, werewolf, ghost, witch, or something along those lines in it. It wouldn't seem right to me. Haha. I love anything paranormal. I run a blog for all my interests (link on my page) but it is not for the faint of heart. I do post things that do not appeal to everyone and a lot of posts are NSFW. My tame posts feature but are not limited to tea, books, Doctor Who, travel, Harry Potter, Emma Watson, and animals. If this tickles your curiosity, then by all means have a visit :)
I am always looking for new reads and is very excited to read everyone's discussions on here that are all things paranormal.

I'm from Oklahoma but have been living in Lake Charles, Louisiana for the past three years. I read everything but I'm getting back into Paranormal/urban books, now that I finally got a library card. I'm rereading a bunch of books so that I can refresh my memory on some of the series books that are out there. And begininig to read some of the books out there that I've misssed out on for the past 3 or 4 years. I love to read, I read anything I can get my hands on, I will read anything Stephen King writes, he's my god! I like biographies and history books as well.

message 1033: by Kira (new)

Kira Lerner | 2 comments Hi all! I'm Kira, from NYC, and I'm a huge fan of mysteries in general, and romantic suspense in particular. When these genres crossover with paranormal I'm delighted. Actually, if you take a look at the books I've read, which I've only just started to update, you'll see a major focus on Rex Stout and Jane Austen, who are my favorite authors, and you'd probably think "what the heck is this chick doing here?!" I'm actually not as well-read in the paranormal/urban fantasy genre as I should be, but oddly it's the one in which I write, so go figure. In a way I avoid reading too many paranormals because I don't want to be influenced by the way others portray certain fantasy tropes or character types; does that make sense?

Actually, my current interest in paranormal romance sprang, believe it or not, from seeing Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and becoming fascinated by the character of Remus Lupin. Of course I read the books afterwards and adored him even more (though the less said about the last book, the better, ugh). Anyway, when I was commissioned to write a paranormal myself, I decided to take my favorite genres -- mystery and historical romance and werewolves -- and mixed 'em all together in a big ol' gumbo.

I'm an author and editor, as well as a freelance web designer based in NYC. Oh yes, and I suffer from Anglophilia (well, "suffer" is the wrong word -- revel in it, really), for which there is no cure... thank heavens! But the medicine is delightful, especially if it involves Colin Firth's Mr. Darcy diving into a pond. Anyway, I'll shut up at last. Thanks for creating such a wonderful group! I look forward to reading several of the books discussed here.

message 1035: by Jeanne (new)

Jeanne (jedkmd) | 1 comments Hi everyone! I'm Jeanne, I'm from southeastern MA, and I've been on Good Reads since I got my color nook about a year ago, but I haven't been too busy on the site until recently. Figured if I was going to belong I may as well make use of it!

I love PNR in all of it's forms and I can't say that I have particular favorite in type of character (vamp, shifter, mage, demon, whatever - it's all good!) but I can say that I have little to no tolerance for the TSTL characters (and that includes those occasional male versions as well as the females) or for the chic lit variety female who is into shopping, coffe shops, and social networking (I get enough of that from my daughter thank you!). I have a massive list of have read and to be read books and I've got a bunch of authors I really like and anxiously await their books (the pre-orders on my nook are ridiculous!). Some of my favs include J.R. Ward (what a surprise, huh?), Sherrilyn Kenyon, Jessica Anderson, Diana Rowland, Joss Ware, Pamela Palmer, Nalini Singh, Larrisa Ione, Jeaniene Frost, Kresley Cole, Jennifer Lyon, Sharon Ashwood, Anya Bast, Patricia Briggs and Anna Windsor (I could go on, but you get the idea...).

I'm hoping that recommendations in this group as well as the reading challenges will help me to actually get through my to be read list (ha - I'll never catch up!) as well as help me find worthy new authors. Currently I'm using the upcoming RT Reviews convention in April as a way to decide which books to put at the top of my pile. Seems like I should have read at least a few books by those authors I'm going to see in the workshops...

All that said, I'm looking forward to being an active part of the group.

message 1036: by Marty (new)

Marty Shaw (MartyShaw) | 9 comments Hi everybody. I'm Marty. I'm an avid reader that will read just about anything, although I usually lean towards paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and horror. I'm also a devoted Whovian, which really disturbs my wife. Incidentally, Matt Smith is pretty good but David Tennant will probably always be my favorite.

When I'm not reading or daydreaming about stealing the TARDIS, I can usually be found either playing with our five cats or working on my first urban fantasy book, Little Demons. I previously released Dead Man Walking, a horror short story, in eBook format.

message 1037: by Nina (last edited Feb 16, 2012 10:07AM) (new)

Nina (msralways) | 528 comments Hi everyone! My name is Nina,I'm from Brazil and I'm 21. I read pretty much everything that I can get my hand or my eyes on. Lately though I've been reading a lot of paranormal romance and urban fantasy.

I also am a tv series fanatic and an obsessed Phile, thank you very much. When I'm not reading I'm watching my shows and shipping all my perfect couples. :)

Since I read a LOT, and I mean, a LOT like most of you here do, I'm happy that I found this group to discuss about books and other things too. Futhermore, I'm also happy to know that I am not the only girl here to daydream about our dark hunters and fallen angels and brotherhood fighters.

To wrap things up, I'm always open to new book suggestions, even if they are not my main stream type of reading. If you thing its good, I'll make the time to read it. Check out my page here on goodreads to see some of the books that I've read too. Oh, one last thing, I LOVE zombies. Seriously, The Walking Dead and Resident Evil are totally my other obsession. :) And nice to meet you all.

message 1038: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Bourke (mrsb1968) Hi,
I'm Lynn, 40+ years old, and I live in Darwen, England with my husband and youngest (18 yo) daughter. My older two 'children' (22 and 20 yo) are away at University.

I am a newbie to the paranormal romance genre, and I am totally hooked on the Black Dagger Brotherhood series of books by J R Ward (have read the first three books in 4 days)! I have also read books by Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lara Adrian and Deborah Harkness.

I also like crime, romance and contemporary genres, but I love stories about vampires at the moment - even though 'Twilight' did nothing for me...

I also cross stitch, knit and run a Girl Guide Unit in my spare time, and my 'day job' is Primary School Teacher.

Pleased to meet you all!

I'm Diane from Tallahassee, FL. I love horror/suspense, but my daughter recently bought me a book on how to write the paranormal genre. Can't wait to read it. :)

message 1040: by V. (new)

V. Clair (vstclair) | 2 comments Hi, I'm Tory and I'm fairly new to Goodreads, just joined about a month ago. I'm a chemical engineer by day, writer by night, and I've just started publishing books on kindle.

My favorite genres are fantasy and sci-fi, and I read about 4-5 books a week (cheap kindle downloads make it awesome and affordable to do this) :D

I do have a paranormal fantasy book out on kindle now, with paperbacks soon to follow. It's called Fall of Kings, Book 1 in the Chronicles of Icthema trilogy. If anyone is interested in a different take on angels and demons, feel free to check it out and let me know what you think :D Reviews/likes are always appreciated :D

I look forward to getting to know more people in this forum and making some friends who share a love of the great genre that is paranormal fantasy :D

message 1042: by cucuio (new)

cucuio | 1 comments Hello!! I'm Amanda. I just graduated (undergrad) from college, so I'm hoping to get more time to read now. My favorite genre is fantasy. I'm not picky if it's high fantasy or not. I love the adventures and I love the vampires (and the werewolves...the zombies the ...everything).

I occasionally attempt to write, but only high fantasy (I feel urban fantasy would involve maps. I do not like maps). Other then that. Uhm.

Hi.

Hi, I'm Karl, a teacher, and the husband of Goodreads author Patricia Leslie. The Ballad of Young Tam Lin by Patricia A. Leslie is a fantasy romance (historical), and totally lacking in bloodletting (except some human to human fighting). Sorry, no fangs, just romance and love between humans and beings from the "other side" (in this case, those beings sometimes called "elves.") Register to win a free copy on Goodreads, and take a free peek on Kindle ("Look Inside").

Also check out a free paranormal novella (modern) by Patricia Leslie Go to http://directory.ac5.org/TamLin
Then click on the "Resources" tab for access to the novella and some other short writings.
