Clare K. R. (clare-dragonfly) | 15 comments Hello, I'm Clare! I'm not exactly new to urban fantasy but I am relatively new to this current wave of kick-ass heroines fighting crime, heh. I've read the first books of a few series but haven't found one I can actually love yet, so I'll probably be asking for recommendations at some point! I have always loved fantasy novels of all kinds. I'm a writer as well as a reader.

message 903: by Paloma (new)

Paloma | 7 comments Hello! My name is Paloma and I moved to Knoxville, TN about 6 months ago. I'm a COA in a busy ophthalmology practice. I've gotten into reading paranormal romance and as I like to call them smut books! It all started when my husband deployed to Iraq in 2009. While he was gone I just started picking up books and reading my heart out. It was a great way to pass the time and help me get through his deployment.

I'm always up for suggestions on books to read. Two of my favorite authors so far is Gena Showalter and P.C. Cast. I've read just about everything they've written oh and J.R. Ward. So please if you have any suggestions please let me know! Thanks!!

Ginger Snaps (gsnaps) Hey everyone, I'm Ginger in Los Angeles. I'm a SAHM, raising and homeschooling my 3 kids, who loves to read obsessively at any chance I get. My favorite kinds of books are Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy & YA. (Preferably only books I'm willing to trade sleep for) I also am on NetGalley and blog.

Currently reading:
Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna #1) by Kendare Blake

Sloan (ofliliesandremains) Hey everyone! My name is Sloan. My favorite genre for a good read is pretty much anything dealing with the paranormal. I hope to find some good recommendations and enjoy a few discussions! :)

message 907: by Sheri (last edited Dec 25, 2011 12:57PM) (new)

Sheri Hi, I'm Sheri. I am 32 years old and live in Iowa. I have four kids, ages 3 to 16, to keep me busy (plus working from home full time), but I read every spare minute I can find! I have been using Goodreads for a while now but am new to the groups. I've already spent about 1-1/2 hours on here reading older posts. This is so much fun!!

I have started a book review blog on Facebook. It is still a work in progress, but I'm going to be adding to it in the upcoming days/weeks. Please like and feel free to post comments!

Shelley (sreads) | 5 comments Hi, I'm Shelley. I've been following a lot of posts on here (always looking for the next good book to read), but this is the first I've gotten around to actually post something. I'm a mom of a two year old and reading is my escape from all things real. I use to be a total book snob, but now I've opened my horizons. I love the PNR and Fantasy genres because they are about as far as you can get from reality. I'm able to read a good book without being bogged down in the super meaningful literary heavy. I don't post to things much, but thought I owed a hello being that I follow this group regularly.

message 909: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (romantasygirl) | 20 comments Hi, I´m Claudia. I am new to goodreads and this group. I am a German female bookworm, married to the only boyfriend I ever had, whom I got to know about 20 years ago (or a bit more - wow!!) in a dancing school in my hometown K-town, I have two kids (age 13 and 9, girl and a boy) and I´m a passionate paranormal romance reader.

I started reading romance novels when I was a teenager and began with almost only historicals and kept going for these books for a long time. Then, a few years ago, I somehow changed my reading habits totally and since then I use to read almost only paranormal romances. The first paranormals I read were the novels by Christine Feehan about the Drake sisters (I loved this series!!) and then it went on to the books of Gena Showalter, Alyssa Day (I practically inhale all of her Atlantis related books!!), Nalini Singh, and I lot of other authors I don´t remember right at this moment. I am a total English nerd (my profession is multilingual secretary) and I sincerely hope that joining this site will help me improve my English skills (well, speaking to someone in English would be wonderful for me).

I am very much interested in mythology (mostly the greek, but also those of other countries, such as the celtic with the fae or the northern mythology with Odin, Thor and these gods)and archaeology. Therefore I love the Percy Jackson books/movie, but also all of books by Sherrilyn Kenyon - dark hunters)and I wished there were more books dealing with these subjects.

For years I only read German books, but now I almost completely changed into reading English books because there´s so much more variety of them. I hope to make friends here with whom I can chat/talk/email/discuss...everything about books and live in general. I really am looking forward to getting to know you all.

PepperP0t | 539 comments hi newbies. Welcome!

Tons of good books are available and looks as if you've found a lot of the popular authors (not all of you have found the same ones of course) Some favorites are: Patricia Briggs (Mercy Thompson also Alpha & Omega); Chloe Neill (Chicagoland Vampires); Larissa Ione (Demonica); Jennifer Estep (Elemental Assassin); Kresley Cole (Immortals After Dark); JR Ward (Black Dagger Brotherhood); Gena Showalter (Lords of the Underworld); Lara Adrian (Midnight Breed); Jeaniene Frost (Night Huntress World); Nalini Singh (Psy-Changeling & Guild Hunter series).

As you can see plenty to choose from. The above is by no means a complete list. There are lots of others, these just seem to be the most popular in the various groups. Also visiting the different discussion topics you pick up on other books that may peak your interest. There's also recommendations you can get here at goodreads and at a couple other sites (ie: whatshouldireadnext.com)

You guys are joining a group or two and just jumping in -- you'll feel like you've been doing it forever in no time. Don't be shy to just pop your message in and add a ha-ha to the conversation - sometimes that is the best way.

Happy reading and I hope you all find tons of friends!

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Hello, my name is Leslie and I just recently joined this group. I have been reading romance since I was a teenager and started reading PNR several years ago. It has slowly become one of my favorite genres. I live in Shreveport, LA by way of New Orleans (katrina). I am married with 4 children, 1 just graduated college, 2 in college and 1 is a junior in high school. Almost all of my reading is done on my nookcolor/android tablet. I am completely obseesed with it and it has changed my reading habits.

Hi, Leslie,

You wrote about reading on your android tablet. That's the same with me. I have an ipod touch an ipad. Ever since I own these devices my reading habits changed totally, too. Nowadays I use to read so much more ebooks than printed books. So I can perfectly understand that.

message 918: by Denise (new)

Denise | 5 comments ~waves~ Hello All! My name is Denise. I'm from Georgetown, Texas. Single, no children, unless the four legged kind count (Chihuaha named Vegas). I am relatively new to gr. I joined in August of this year and came across this group on a friend's profile. I didn't immediately introduce myself (my apologies)because I was trying to figure out how all the shelves work...plus I was so overwhelmed with all the books to add to my TBR shelf. It's huge...I may never leave the house again.

I wasn't much of a reader as a child/young adult but was introduce to romance, specifically Judith McNaught, by a co-worker. Fell in love with romance almost immediately and read on occasion or if someone raved about a book (romance or other genre).

The reading obession was back after reading Twilight. After that I had to get my hands on all things PNR. I haven't jumped on any of the threads because I feel as though I'm interrupting a conversation. However, I am looking forward to seeing recommendations and hope to join in on a group read. Thanks~

P.S. Sorry this introdcution was three days long. :)

message 920: by Bridget (new)

Bridget Bowers (bridgetbowers) | 36 comments Hi, I’m Bridget and I live in Northern California. Lived here my whole life and love the small town lifestyle. I also love to read. My mom encouraged reading in our family at a very young age, and it didn’t matter what it was we read as long as we were reading. I started out reading anything that had a horse in it as I was horse crazy from before the time I could walk.

From horses I moved onto anything and everything I can get my hands on. I still enjoy reading a wide range of genres. My first adventure in fantasy was The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne. I loved it. I combed the school libraries for more Jules Verne. Then I moved onto the Dune series by Frank Herbert and then tons of books by Piers Anthony, and I was hooked.

Then I discovered Stephen King and read The Stand until the cover fell off and lucky for me King released the complete and uncut version so I could read it all over again. My newest adventure in reading is paranormal romance, and I’ve recently become hooked on vampires. Most importantly, I love anything with a good story.

I actually became a writer thanks to reading James Herriot, although at first I wanted to be a writing veterinarian. I settled for journalism and began a sports writer. Currently, I have just released my own fantasy novel and look forward to writing even more.

Willow Rose | 4 comments Hi everyone

My name is Therese but I write under the name T. P. Boje. I am 35 years old and from Denmark. I moved to the states with my husband and kids two and a half years ago. We live in Florida which I like a lot better than the cold and rainy Denmark. I am also a hopeless book addict and i love being on Goodreads and meeting people just like me here.Books were my life growing up and when I wasn't reading I told stories to my class-mates in school. I love a good story and I prefer that it has some love and romance in it.
Anyway I am really happy to be here.

Therese

SO obviously I am new here. My name is Muna and I have been reading romance books since... forever nearly! I love reading and blogging about paranormal romances, Young Adult romances and the more classical ones as well. I really enjoy Nalini Singh, Kresley Cole, Gena Showalter, Lisa Kleypas and sooo many others that i could literally bore you to death with them.

But like other people have said I am really glad that I have Goodreads so I can share my love of books and hopefully people can share that with me as well.

message 925: by Emily (new)

Emily Goodwin (goodreadscomemilykg) Hi everyone!

I'm Emily Goodwin and I have been a fan of anything paranormal since I was a kid. I used to stay up and sneak on the internet to look up information about magic, ghosts and vampires. Adding romance into the paranormal mix just makes everything so much more compelling.

I'm an avid read as well as a writer. My first novel is finally for sale (yay!). Other than reading and writing, I enjoy riding my horses, sewing and just being outside.

I'm looking forward to 'getting to know' everyone in this group!

message 926: by Krista (last edited Nov 06, 2011 07:44AM) (new)

Krista Holle | 31 comments Hi everyone. I’m Krista and I’m a helpless romantic! Whew. It feels so much better to have gotten that off my chest. ;)

It is true though. If the girl doesn’t get her guy (or the other way around), if there’s no “white horse into the sunset” (metaphorically speaking of course), if I don’t sniffle at least a couple of times during the story, then I’m just not happy.

Whether the girl is falling for a ghost, a vampire (Team Edward!) or a selkie, it doesn’t matter to me. Just as long as she’s falling and there’s a “great catch” waiting to catch her, that’s the “fix” that I’m looking for.

Hi, Krista,

yess! I can only stress that. It´s the exact way with me. I can not stand stories/movies/TV series, what ever, without an happy end. If so, I´m eager to forget what read/saw immediately ;-)) Before I read a romance novel I collect as much information about it as I can get so I am sure I won´t be disappointed about the end. And - of course there has to be at least one really hot, steamy sex scene in it so my romantic heart will be satisfied ;-)

So - welcome to the club of the "hopelessly romantic girls" - I guess we must be "sisters in soul" ;-)))

Which books did you like best in the paranormal genre?

Oh, btw, I think I didn´t mention it in my profile or elsewhere - I don´t like vampires. Sorry for all of you who are big vampire fans. But - I can´t help it - that´s the way I feel. If vampires are included in paranormal romance novels they have to be the "bad guys", not the main couple. Again - sorry!!

Amber Reynolds | 2 comments Hey everyone! I'm Amber. I'm from Alabama. I've been a member for two years, but haven't gotten around to introducing myself. So for that, I am sorry! I really enjoy this group and have found some great recommendations on here. I started my love for pnr with Twilight but quickly found I wanted some adult action, lol. I just started a book blog. message 933: by Kala (new)

Kala Hello all :) I am fairly new to the group!

I'm 31 and single mother to an awesome 6 year old girl. I love animals (I have 5 cats, 4 dogs, and 2 horses). I live in South Florida (Hollywood) and I read a LOT (generally 4-8 books a week).

My favorite genre right now is YA Paranormal Romance (Clockwork Angel is my current favorite book), but I love adult Paranormal too (read quite a bit of Sherrilyn Kenyon, etc), as well as regular romance, mystery/thriller, etc.

I work in law enforcement, but I love to write and I'm currently participating in NaNoWriMo!

:D

Jessica (bookbound) | 8 comments Hi everyone,

My name is Jessica. I'm 25, live in Canada, and manage a blog called Book Bound. I review books, most of them paranormal romance (my genre of choice), host giveaways, author interviews....blah blah blah. But, this isn't meant to be self promotion so...moving one. Lol.

I currently work as a medical lab tech for my regional health authority. I enjoy it, and I must admit, I get a kick out of being called a vampire or a blood sucker by my patients. :)

When I'm not working, I am usually reading, blogging, writing (procrastinating), or baking. I hope to one day take my writing seriously enough to complete a novel and publish it. I also hope to one day open a cupcake shop. As it stands, I make custom cakes and cupcakes out of my home...more a hobby than any kind of business venture.

Thats me in a nutshell. ;)

message 938: by Josie (new)

Josie | 6 comments Hello all! My name is Josie from a small town just outside of Albany, NY. I am a married mother of four and have always loved to read as I’m sure the majority of us have =). I've been described as ‘the girl that always has her nose in a book’ from as early as middle school. I’ll even admit to having walked into things, in public, from trying to read and walk at the same time. You’ll be happy to hear that I eventually learned my lesson and stopped doing that.

I discovered the paranormal genre fairly late compared to some of you. I read the Twilight series about 2 years ago and absolutely loved it! After I’d read it several times, I went looking for paranormal romances to help curb my withdrawal symptoms.

Some of my favorite paranormal romance/urban fantasy authors are J.R. Ward, Jeanine Frost, Lara Adrian, and Charlaine Harris. Other genre’s I enjoy are chick lit, contemporary romance, and young adult titles (which I read for my own enjoyment, but also to discuss with my 12 year old daughter).

I’ve joined Good Reads just this month and am excited to meet other book lovers. I am even more excited to have found this group and am looking forward to reading and discussing with you all. Happy reading!

Shy (xnevermorebride) | 24 comments Hi everyone!

My name is Kiara and I'm from a small town in West Virginia. I'm probably a bit on the young side, being 19 and going on 20, but I've always enjoyed reading paranormal and historical romance. I currently attend an online college to maybe pursue a career in informative technology. When I'm not completing my assignments, I usually am writing posts for my rp forums in my spare time or reading reviews of the latest books and movies.

I can't say I have any favorite authors/books at the moment since I just got back into the genre, though I am a big manga fanatic and enjoy series like Vampire Knight and Berserk. They've really encouraged me to give the PNR/Supernatural another shot.

-has run out of things to say-

Ummm....

Oh yeah!

It makes me glad to have found goodreads while searching for friendly book forums. It's a pleasure to meet you all and I can't wait to start discussing and reviewing with you guys! :)
