Ashley Willis (ashleylynnwillis) | 22 comments Hello! My name is Ashley Willis, and I’m new to the boards. I have a friend on another forum who recommended this site as being friendly and open to readers and authors. I do write, but I have no plans to release anything until the end of the year or beginning of next year. What I really want are book recommendations in the urban fantasy genre. My Fav!!! I also read paranormal romance and young adult, though urban fantasy is my one true love.

I look forward to getting to know everyone. :)

Shell Hi! I'm Shell and I'm new to good reads and book discussions. I'm an avid reader, which is good since I also am a reading teacher. :) I am married with 2 children (one 15 and one 19 months), so I'm a busy gal. I do make time to read whenever I can so I always have a book handy or access to my eReader. I love reading just about anything except for Non-Fiction. I can't really get into that. Looking forward to all the new discussions!

Adriatika | 4 comments Hello everybody :)

My name is Lauren. I'm 19, I live in Ohio, I'm a freshman in college, and I love to read and collect books.

Lately, I've been reading a lot of YA, but I LOVE urban fantasy. Some of my fav UF books are The Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong, the Georgina Kincaid series and Dark Swan series by Richelle Mead, the Mercy Thompson series and the Alpha and Omega series by Patricia Briggs, and the Kitty Norville series and Discord's Apple by Carrie Vaughn.

I have to admit, I haven't really read any paranormal romance (I don't think...) but this group sounded really fun, and a great place for some good recommendations :)

message 520: by Jen (new)

Jen Davis (redhotbooks) | 3 comments Hi! I'm Jen, 34 year-old mom of two. (My little girl is 7; my son is 5.) My husband was my high school sweetheart and he has followed me around, moving with me from our hometown of New Orleans, to follow the fickle tv news business that I work in. We've been in the Jackson, MS, area for nine years now... close enough that we can visit NOLA every few weeks. --I'm a news producer, which is fun work, most days.

I love, love, love to read. And I read very fast... sometimes I struggle to slow it down. But my eyes are hungry for the page! I generally go for Urban Fantasy & Paranormal Romance (but some historicals sneak in now and then.) Among my favorite authors are Kresley Cole, Karen Marie Moning, Gena Showalter, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Patty Briggs, Charlaine Harris, and JR Ward. But I am always trying new authors.

I'm here to make book-friends, because I love to talk about the books and characters I tend to get attached to!

Jeanine (truejourney) | 315 comments Amanda wrote: "Are faeries really interesting to read about ?"

I have only read one series that include fairies: The Wicked Lovely seiries.
I was surprised at how good the books were, actually. I really don't think that Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy are all that different, really. I was under the impression that paranormal meant mind-reading, time traveling, psychic stuff, etc... Urban fantasy usually means that is set in our world and the main character usually finds out about other non-human's living among them (i.e. vampires... werewolves...fairies...mutants...etc.) Usually the main charatcer falls in love with one of those non-humans.

message 522: by Jeanine (new)

Jeanine (truejourney) | 315 comments Hello... My name is Jeanine.
I am a 26 year old mother of three. Yes you heard me right, I have three kids and I am only 26, 27 next month, actually. My husband and I have been married for eight years and together for 13. Yes, all three of my kids are his, no matter how many times I've claimed they were the product of love between me and Mathew McConahey, sometimes I stake claims on Rob Pattinson, but only when he's at his hottest ;)
Anyway, I love to read Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance. I love reading so much that I decided to write my own book in hopes that I could provide for others what so many authors have provided for me: an escape. I am currently in the process of editing and revising my novel... Yea!

message 523: by Shawn (new)

Shawn | 375 comments Hi everyone, my name is Shawn. I'm a single mother of 3 for the past 15 years. I am a service manager for a heating and air conditioning co. I LOVE to read, at 17 yrs old my first book love affair was with Danielle Steele. I have been addicted every since. I like many genres but in the last several years PNR has won hands down. Some of my favs are Black Dagger Brotherhood, The Hollows, Keri Arthur's Guardian Series, Dark Hunter, I could read Acheson over and over. I'm currently finishing the Highlander series by Karen Marie Mining and then on to Outlander.

Thank you. You are in for a treat. Rachel evolves into quite the heroine. The books are incredible right down to Pale Demon. The ending left me hating the next 6~8 months of waiting for the next book.

So at the rate I'm going the next one will be out by the time I get to it:) I guess that's the good thing about reading several series' at the same time.

Graphic Design is a great thing to get into. You should focus on how to put e-book covers together. I bet you could market yourself through goodreads.

Alma Katsu | 10 comments Hi everyone. I'm new here, too. I'm the author of The TAKER, a lit/historical with a supernatural twist. It's coming out in April in the UK with Random House, in September in the US with Simon & Schuster. I'm a late bloomer, getting my first novel published at an age when I wouldn't qualify for the "Top 20 under 40" distinction.

Hello, everyone, I'm Ari, newly joined to Goodreads and this group, and will be 25 as of Sunday, March 20th, at 3 p.m. :) I'm an avid reader though I've needed to slow down a tad lately due to school--graduation day is fast approaching.

I'm still slightly new to the world of paranormal romance--have not read nearly half the books that I wish to read in the genre, but I've vastly enjoyed all that I've picked up thus far. Well...mostly.

It's a pleasure to meet you all, and I hope to get some great recommendations from what I see of others reading...as well as some freebies. Don't be shy. I'm more than happy to be given a head's up on some fun reads.

Hey there, Jeanine. I've read the BDB series, the Night Huntress and Night Huntress World series, the Gardella Vampire Chronicles series, and the first book of the Fever series. After the new BDB release this month, I'm going to start the Dark Hunter series.

message 545: by McKenzie (new)

McKenzie | 57 comments I've been here for a few weeks now but have yet to make one of these introductions, methinks.

I'm a 23 year old female from Missouri and my name is McKenzie. You could say I'm still somewhat of a newbie to the paranormal romance world. The person who actually got me into it is my boyfriend's mother.

I've always liked to read but haven't been reading nearly as much as I have for the past year or so. I got a job at an office. It's the main switchboard at a hospital, a mini call center. We are allowed to read all day as long as we take calls. I get a lot of reading done during slow times.

PNR, horrow, and mystery/thrillers are my favorite kinds of reads. "Normal" romance is no longer fun after reading series like The Breeds, Immortals After Dark, Lords of the Underworld, etc etc etc. :)

Zulema (B00KReader) | 4 comments Hi everyone! i'm new and I love to read. i never thought reading could be this much fun because I didn't used to read, until I picked up a book and read. From that day forward, I Loved books! If it has vampires, werwolves and fairies, ill read it!

message 549: by Katie (new)

Katie | 42 comments Hi everybody! I'm coming back to goodreads after a long hiatus. Sometimes being social online can stretch you too thin, Know what I mean? With FB,Twitter,Linkedin, etc... you could spend the entire day just catching up on everything. LoL. Anyway, I'm back and wanted to re-introduce myself.

I'm Katie: wife, mother, and Urban Fantasy author (not always in that order. LoL.) I've got about 5 book under my belt (2 novels and 3 novellas).

I'm a Las Vegas lifer. I love living in sin city, as well as being a lover of all things vampire.

The last book I read was Dead and Gone by Charlaine Harris. It took me a while but I really got into that series.

Hope to get to know you all better.

After you read those, you should try Lara Adrians, Midnight Breed Series. They remind me of BDB. Of course, they're not as great, but they are still good. Also, there is the Riley Jensen series.
