Naked in Death is my intro to JD Robb. Loved it. Gritty, dark and suspenseful, this futuristic mystery pushed the right buttons-and that sexy, shady Irishman wasn't half bad either!
Ok, I was bad. I finished off 2 of the books for this challenge. Then "rewarded" myself by reading my new Janet Evanovitch, "The Grand Finale" (Yes Oz, it WILL be at your house as soon as I can get over there)
This is one of her pre-Plum books, and is a very, very, VERY fast read (hour and a half, I think it took me.)
You can definately tell this is an Evanovitch book. Many of her characters (especially female) seem "much of a muchness" if you know what I mean. You can definately see traces of Stephanie Plum in the heroines, and there is almost ALWAYS a pre-cursor to Grandma Maser. (Hey, I'm a big Grandma Maser fan)
The guys are not quite as clear cut precursors to Morelli and Ranger.
OK, so, this wasn't really PNR, but it was still a romance, so I thought I'd give a quick review, since the book just came out.

Hey people! YOu guys have been quiet!! I'm guessing you are reading??? Plowing through your books?I thought I'd update you... I don't think there's need to call in a Necro... the plague seems to maybe have possibly passed! YAY! Just got that aftermath going on where I'm exhausted and have to build myself back up to eating as well as get some good nutrients in me...
So here's my current progress with reading:
1. Blood Lite
I was reading Wolfsbane and Mistletoe but random werewolf stories were getting to be a bit much. So I'm halfway through it and decided to take a break for a few hours. Not saying it is bad, but so many short stories about werewolves were getting too much.
So what did I do? I started Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs - Mercy book 2. OK, so yes there were's in it, too. But it's not the focus and I enjoy the story. I felt I could handle it (really my attention span was not there before for a full novel) so grabbed it! Well on my way to getting into it and loving it!
Will keep you posted!
Though I might have posted a poll to amuse you but I don't know how and I'm just not up to figuring that one out right now. Book - OK... looking up stuff to tweak? Forget it. I may have more attention span, but not that much. ROFL
Happy Reading!
1. ANTHOLOGY - TBD3. FUTURISTIC Romance - TBD
4. SHAPESHIFTER Romance - TBD

8. Romantic SCIENCE FICTION & FUTURISTIC FANTASY - Spider and Jeanne Robinson's The Star Dancers
9. Romantic URBAN FANTASY: Matthew Thomas, Before and After
BTW--have I mentioned my ONE complaint about these challenges?
Its that my TBR pile is growing exponentially. How, how, HOW am I going to find time to read all these new books/series/authors that people keep talking about? There just aren't enough hours in the day for all the reading I want to do.
My La Vida Vampire came into, so I'm putting down the book I had just started (how to lose an ET in 10 days) to read it. Part of the reason for that is--ET is book THREE in a series. AARRGGGHHHHHHH. I have to read books 1 and 2 before book 3. Yes, I AM OCD about series when I KNOW that they are series.
So, now I have to wait for the first 2 books to get here (hopefully on Friday) but I still have other books to read in my list before they come in.
Oh--Oz is feeling better, she no longer sounds as if she's the walking dead. And according to oldest grandson, she's starting to "get grumpy" so she MUST be feeling better, right? :o)

1.Anthology On The Prowl finished 3/3/09
6. Vampire Romance La Vida Vampire finished 3/4/09
7. Romantic Fantasy Never Been Witched finished 3/3/09
Ok, book 3 done. Since so many others read La Vida Vampire for previous challenges, I won't bother with a review, except to say that I really did enjoy it.

Ok, book 4 is now read. I've run into a snag--I've lost one of my books. So I guess I'm going to be reading something else instead of "Ghouls just haunt to have fun" (unless Oz finds it mixed in with some of the books I took to HER.)
This was the latest in a series of books that I've been reading. There IS some overlap between them, so I'd read them in order if you haven't started the series. It deals with mythological creatures who live in hiding among us. They call themselves "The Lore" There is at least 1 short story that actually starts the series. Its in the short story collection "Playing Easy to Get." They are humourous, but are also somewhat action packed. BTW--I want to come back in my NEXT life as one of the Valkerie that are in these stories. Hey, who wouldn't want to come back as a tiny, beautiful woman who can kick major a@@? None of those 6 ft tall giantess that Wagner portrayed. :o)
I'm trying to decide if I want to read the "Wulf's of Long" trilogy next, or what, since I'm having to wait on the first 2 books of the XT series to get here, as well as the Cry Wolf.
Sigh, so many books, so little time.

Ok, everyone can breathe easy again. I stopped by to see Oz today and she is no longer grey, nor stumbling around with her arms out in front of her, wrists dropped going "BBBRRAAIINNSSSS, bbrraaiinns, brains" So we can all rest easy that no zombies will be visiting us to eat our saturated with reading brains. :o)
And I finally found out what happened to my "Ghouls Just Haunt to Have Fun" book--Amazon sent me emails about 4 or 5 of my books that had been held up in transit because of the snow storms. So I'm thinking they will show up on Friday or maybe Monday at the latest. Then I will be back on track with my challenge.
In the meantime I'm indulging myself in "outside" reading. :o)

WTH, I didn't get an email that the thread had updated! /smack goodreadsAnyway... I wanted to report... I've finished book 2! YAY! And so I'm going to start book 3! Though I'll probably read another short story in my anthology I'm halfway through... :)
So I am here and reporting in!
March 2009 Reading:
PEARL Nominated/Winners
1. Blood Lite
2. Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs (was a previous year)
Next up I'm going to go ahead and read Iron Kissed. I really enjoyed Blood Bound. It was fantastic! And I'm still halfway through Wolfsbane and Mistletoe. I didn't read it at all today, opting to just read BB in between a couple of naps.
I'm feeling far far far better but man that not being able to eat thing has me so I'm just getting really zapped really easy. Yes, I'm getting grumpy. I just get tired and then I get grumpy. LOL I figure I'll just stay in bed and take it easy through the weekend. With the exception of driving to BWI tomorrow night to pick up hubster. I'll be doing the audibook scene for that. Too bad I don't have any PEARLS there... LOL
Good luck to everyone! looks like some good progress is being made!
Update!1. ANTHOLOGY
2. FANTASY/MAGICAL
3. FUTURISTIC
4. SHAPESHIFTER
5. TIME TRAVEL
The House on the Strand - Daphne Du Maurier
6. VAMPIRE
High Stakes - Erin MacCarthy (finally...the library came through!)
7. ROMANTIC FANTASY Shadow Bridge - Gregory Frost
8. ROMANTIC SCI-FI/FANTASY
9. ROMANTIC URBAN FANTASY
A Rush of Wings - Adrian Phoenix
And yet another writer, and new series, for me to obsess over!
Urban Shaman, the first book of The Walker Papers series, is a fast-paced mix of Celtic and Cherokee myths. From that seemingly odd combination, Murphy crafts an absorbing tale-made all the more alluring by its protagonist.
Joanne Walker is quirky. She's odd. She's a weisenheimer. She seems to draw people to her. Joanne, and her sidekick Gary, are just plain old likable. Good-natured wise-asses. They're the type of folks you wish you were friends with, and that level of characterization made me forgive any oddities in world-building.
Walker Papers #2 is going on the to-read list!
PS: I don't know how this qualifies for the category it's in, but I got it from the list of PEARL nominees, so hey-who am I to question it? I'd qualify it as firmly urban fantasy. But I do think she's laying the groundwork for a simmering romance, a la Briggs' Mercy & Adam.
Two down. Bound by Blood was fabulous if you enjoy m/m vampire erotica. Loved The Smoke Thief too. Both of these books are the first in a series and I can't wait to read the rest.1. Anthology - Sexy Beast II Anthology
2. Fantasy/Magical Romance -
3. Futuristic Romance - Caresssed By Ice by Nalini Singh
4. Shapeshifter Romance - Wolf Tales III by Kate Douglas
5. Time Travel Romance -Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon
6. Vampire Romance- In The Blood by Adrian Phoenix
7. Romantic Fantasy -
8. Romantic Science Fiction & Furturistic Fantasy - Gabriel's Ghost by Linnea Sinclair
9. Romantic Urban Fantasy - One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost
So I am reading to many books in the same category LOLI finished ShapeShifter Romance:
Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs
Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs
Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs
Can I count White Witch Black Curse toward any of these??
Karen wrote: "Finished book #2 - Ecstasy by Jacquelyn Frank. This is I think the second book in the Shadowdwellers series"I'm pretty sure Ecstasy is the first book in the Shadowdwellers series, though the series itself is sort of a spin off of her Nightwalker series. The Shadowdwellers are mentioned in the book Damien. (And possibly in Noah, I got really sick of the series and didn't every finish that one.)
Question for you - was there a lot of "you're my soul mate and you better get used to it" in Ecstasy? That was my main complaint with her other series, which makes me wary of picking up any more of her books.
Alright Guys I am getting ready to go pick up three of the nine books tonight. So let the reading fun begin :)
Hey can anyone tell me if Destiny Kills by Keri Arthur or Lifemate Connections count towards any of the books that we are to read this month?????thanks for the help
I can't speak for Lifemate Connections, but I would say Destiny Kills would fit either shapeshifter or romantic urban fantasy.
1.Anthology On The Prowl finished 3/3/09
2. Fantasy/Magical Romance Kiss of a Demon King Finished 3/5/09
5. Time-Travel Romance The Pleasure Master finished 3/6/09
6. Vampire Romance La Vida Vampire finished 3/4/09
7. Romantic Fantasy Never Been Witched finished 3/3/09
Ok, book 5 of the challenge is now finished. The Pleasure Master by Nina Bangs (timetravel) It looks to me like this might be the start of yet another series from Bangs. I wasn't really impressed with either of the main characters, but I DID love Pete the weird robot and his movie quotes.
I also read book 1 in the McAfee twins books. I'd read one last month for the "read an author you haven't before" challenge. It was the Vampire of Venice Beach book. This is the first book in the series, so they were really more interested in introducing the central characters than anything else, altho I WILL admit to being surprised with the solution to the mystery.'
SO, I've now read 5 books for the challenge plus 5 books that were NOT in the challenge, for a total of 10 so far this month. :o)

Ann,
I usually love Nina Bang's books, but I was never able to get passed the first few chapters of The Pleasure Master. Did it get any better at all?

Wow, some good reading going on!! WOOHOO!!! :) You guys are doing awesome!!!I'm nearly 2/3rds done with Iron Kissed and realy enjoying it. This one is with the fae... :)
Hey! I finished my third book! Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs. I'm hoping as I get another couple of books down, I can start figuring out how they fit into some categories!! I have started another book that I don't think was nominated for PEARL but I chose because it says it has time travel on it. Though I think it's only peripheral. Near as I can tell the main character doesn't time travel but people time traveled to turn her into some sort of never dying cyborg. It's set during the religious unrest of the 16th century. It's called In The Garden of Iden.
I loved Iron Kissed and I was so shocked when Mercy was attacked and the garage and she thought it was her fault I was in tears. I loved it when Ben started yelling at Adam I was like inform inform you cannot run from her. That was such a good story.
Yz's March Challenge List
1. Anthology
An Enchanted Season
finished 2/6
2. Fantasy/Magical Romance
Atlantis Rising - Alyssa Day
3. Futuristic Romance
Gabriel's Ghost by Linnea Sinclair finished 2/5
4. ShapeShifter Romance
Hostage to Pleasure - Nalini Singh
5. Time-Travel Romance
Dark Seduction - Brenda Joyce
6. Vampire Romance
Dark Curse - Christine Feehan
7. Romantic Fantasy
One Foot in the Grave - Jeanine Frost
8. Romantic Science Fiction/Futuristic Fantasy
Dead to the World - Charlaine Harris
9. Romantic Urban Fantasy
Blood Bound - Patricia Briggs
Finished An Enchanted Season. I think the best novella is the one by Nalini Singh. Second would be the one by Maggie Shayne. The other two are just okay.
Linnea Sinclair's Gabriel's Ghost was a great read. It took me a while to finish it because my eyes can't really stand reading in front of the computer for a long time, but I'm so in love with "Sully." This is actually one of the rare occurrence when I actually wish I'm the heroine, and I have a "Sullivan" in my life. He is just one intriguing hero. I highly recommend the book.

I was nearly in tears as well. I almost started the next one, because it's here on my shelf. But I'm trying to make sure i focus on this March challenge. I might be able to find a place for two Mercy PEARL books, but I'm not sure if I can find a place for a third that wasn't nominated... KWIM? So I picked up this Iden book. But I was reading it on my sofa across from my bookcase and my eyes kept gravitating towards my bookcase and that next Mercy book...I thought that IK was a fantastic story. That ending really got to me though. It so sucked.
Lady, Lady, Lady... Mercy can fit into vamp, urban fantasy, shapeshifter, AND fantasy magical! So read away!

Aww, go ahead and read it! I keep wishing I'd waited until this month to read Chance's Cassie Palmer series, since that would have satisfied time travel and vamps and fantasy!
I probably will read it. Just cause I'm so itching. But I can probably stave off the desire for another book. I'm also itching to read this Tate Hallaway book that is on the list for this month's challenge. So I'm going to read it after Iden. After that though... all bets are off. I could try to get excited over Harry Dresden book 2 but that's been on my shelf since 2001. ROFL

8. Romantic Science Fiction/Futuristic Fantasy Ascendant Sun
9. Romantic Urban Fantasy Ghouls Just Haunt to Have Fun
6 books down on the list--and I finished a second anthology. The Magical Christmas Cat.
I enjoyed Cry Wolf a great deal. It was nice to get the Marroc fleshed out a bit more, and Charles too. And I like that Patricia isn't glossing over the trouble that Anna is having recovering emotionally from the abuse she received from the Chicago pack.
The Christmas Cat book I enjoyed too. I'd only read Erin McCarthy before, of the writers in it. So now I have a whole NEW set of authors to add to my (hugh, immense and constantly growning) list of writers to watch for. :o) And I think I really need to find Lora Leigh's books about her Feline Breeds.

A Rush of Wings - Adrian Phoenix
Okay. Shadowbridge is purely a fantasy novel, despite me finding it listed amongst award nominees on Harlequin's romance awards listing.
That said, it's epic in form. Which means that it's not my cup of tea. It's about an orphaned young woman who follows in her father's footsteps to become a puppeteer and story collector, tearing herself away from the uncle and villagers who have treated her ruthlessly.
The stories she collects, especially one detailing how Death found his wife, are fascinating. The book? Slow-moving and filled with lots of confusion that only the sequel will alleviate. Again, if you like epic, you will probably enjoy it and will greedily grab for the second. Me? Eh.
Karen, I'm with you. I got to the end of Blood Lite and thought "I don't think there's a romance in here at all!" *shrug* It was fun. Except that Mr Bear. It was icky to the extreme. Definitely not the sort of thing I enjoy reading AT ALL. I'm not so sure I'll be checking out that author again. Of course I went and looked and saw some stuff I recognized by that person as "not my style" anyway. I TOTALLY loved Hell in a Handbasket. That was freaking brilliant! And the Al Gore story? I'm kinda liking this party plan. HEHE
Just shy of the halfway mark in Garden of Iden. It's OK. Definitely not the most thrilling thing I've read. There's something about it not catching me, though the premise is definitely interesting. Great way to do historical in a different way. Maybe it's because the characters being "immortals" keep themselves so aloof from the normal population and thus I find it hard to relate? I am not sure. Hoping it picks up because otherwise I might have to drop it and pick up something else. LOL And I think it's the best I've got for "time travel" though that's kind of liberal...

Jamie, Good luck!! This month has been difficult to pick out books for. It looks like you are well on your way to figuring out your month's reading! You are better than me. I've picked out books, but I'm not sure where they will fit in with the categories.
I'm glad you are joining us!!
Finished In The Blood. Wow, just as good as Rush of Wings. Unfortunately I have to wait until JANUARY for the next installment. These books are really more Urban Fantasy the PNR but Heather and Dante's relationship is angst ridden enough to have the PNR flavor.1. Anthology - Sexy Beast II Anthology

Welcome to the group, Jamie. Hope you will enjoy the challenge.
Time Travel suggestions: Any of Karen Marie Moning's Highlander books, except book 2.
Romantic Science Fiction and Futuristic Fantasy - I think Lilith Saint Crow's Dante Valentine series or JD Robb's In Death books will work.
Feel free to check what other people have in that category and see if it interests you.
Happy reading!

7. Romantic Fantasy Never Been Witched
Ok, finished off book number 2. BTW--I'm listing them in the order that YZ gave them to us.
I liked some of the stories more than others. The problem is--at least half of them are "come ons" with "you want to know more, read XXX" where XXX is the full length novel the author has coming out soon.
