Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Hi Gang!

It seems like we've slowed down some here in Wild Things.

As moderators, we're looking for suggestions.

What would you guys like to see happen in WT?
What would draw you into discussions?
What can we do to make it more fun?
More challenges? Less challenges?

We'd love to hear your comments, suggestions, etc. We're always open to new ideas and having members run stuff that interests them.

Kirsten (kirsten27) | 53 comments I don't participate in the challenges, but I really love book discussions. More cool discussions would be great.

message 3: by Mary Beth (new)

Mary Beth (lifelovebooks) I like the challenges and the book discussions. Everyone is crazy busy during this time of year due to all the holidays and other end of year stuff. Perhaps just take the last quarter off from challenges but keep the book discussions going?

Stephanie Evans (stephanie_grego_mathis) | 1 comments I am new to this group and one of the reasons I joined was due to the fact you all have group challenges. Just my 2 cents! =]

I do love the challenges, too. The control freak in me thrives on list making (even if I don't make it through 1/2 the books I picked!)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments I love the challenges, it's just hard to keep up during the school year. :)

Leah (gretchen_ross) | 32 comments I miss the bookmark swaps! I know there were probably quite a few issues with them and with keeping everyone on track, but maybe we could have a back-up system?

If someone needed to drop out, let everyone know and someone who feels they have a bit of extra time to make two can step up.

I would like to see more advertisements for challenges. :-)

message 9: by Leigh (new)

Leigh (leighb) Perhaps things have slowed down a bit just because everyone is busy with personal stuff. And the holidays are coming, too. Book discussions are great, so are challenges. I like it all.

Brandi (librandian) | 206 comments I love the challenges. That's the main thing that drew me to this group. I do them every time, even though I am never on the top of the leaderboard.

Kristen (alianneforever) | 83 comments I like the challenges too! I think it is just the time of year that is slow. With holidays and school!

I stepped down from leading the bookmark swap because it was a lot to maintain monthly for so long (over a year). BUT... I did really enjoy them. I use the bookmarks I've received all the time.

In another group they did the swap a little differently, which really helped with people not flaking out. What they did was each make a predetermined number of bookmarks (10 or something) and ship them to one swap leader along with a self-addressed stamped envelope. When the leader received everyone's submissions, she divvied them up and mailed all of the new bookmarks out in the envelopes.

Now, I know that doing 10 at a time would make it difficult to be as detail oriented on each bookmark but maybe the payoff of getting a bunch in exchange for the work would be nice.

So basically, if a stash of bookmarks and a SASE aren't received by the leader, then the flake doesn't get to receive any goodies.

Do we want to try it like this once after the new year?

message 13: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Also, I want to put out there that you don't have to be a moderator to start a challenge or swap or discussion.

I wasn't a moderator when I started the bookmark swap, and Kellee wasn't one when she started the monthly challenge.

We love participation and great ideas! If you want to give something a try, we're all for it.

message 14: by Michele (new)

Michele | 19 comments I don't do the challenges. I like discussing if the book fits into my schedule. I have read and love one the current books being read, Gregor the Overlander, but I don't even know how to start a discussion....

message 15: by Denise (new)

Denise (readindee) | 10 comments I joined this group for the book suggestions (which have been great!) and because I am the teen librarian in our community and I like to stay on top of popular teen reads (especially those liked by ALL ages). I haven't done any challenges b/c of time constraints, but I'll try to be more active in the discussions. I think you, the group moderators, do a great job!

message 16: by Sheri (new)

Sheri (sheribo) | 55 comments I also really enjoy the book discussions. I don't always participate, but I will often go and find an old discussion after I have read something that the group previously read. I try to participate in the group reads when I can, which is not too often but have helped me find books I never would have otherwise. I used to participate in the bookmark swaps, that was super fun, but I just got too busy, I would do it again time permitting of course.

Your book challenges look interesting, but I tend to miss many of them. Even if a deadline is still ahead, it's hard for me to commit to one more thing.

General book discussions are always interesting to read and pretty easy to find something to contribute. Most lend themselves to irregular drop-ins, which is also great because I'm happy if I visit groups about once a month.

Ones which center around books draw me in only if I've read the book. Given time, I'm sure I'll get to many of them.

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Thank you all so much for your feedback--it is super helpful!!!
I am so happy to see that you all are enjoying the group and discussions.
