Read Dirty Streets a couple of months ago so this is a 'free' month. Read Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid series (sparked by a comment in the October version of this thread) and Neil Gaiman's Stardust, have China Meiville's The CIty & The City and Susanna Clarke's Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell on deck

David Sven wrote: "Starting David Gemmell's Legend as my lunch time read."Love that book. One of my earliest fantasy reads. It's one that remained in the memory after others faded. There's something stirring and heartrending about a hero's last stand.
Finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, now listening to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, now listening to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.I always re-listened to the previous books before the new one came out, but I think this is my first listen through knowing how it all ends. It is interesting to see how all the little clues spread throughout the books tie together. Even a few things that only make full sense knowing the end. And of course, there's that one chapter near the end of Deathly Hallows that practically rewrites the whole series.
Just finished The Shadow Rising, starting The Dirty Streets of Heaven now. Haven't read anything by Tad Williams so this should be interesting.
Just finished The Shadow Rising, starting The Dirty Streets of Heaven now. Haven't read anything by Tad Williams so this should be interesting. I'm new to S&L and to some extent to the genre as well, so I'll be starting a daily reading log in the book's section later today, with comments as I go through the book.
Wanted to get some community interaction and that seems like a good way to go about it.
Finished Shadow Blizzard -- I was entertained -- and started Legend by David Gemmell which I've somehow never gotten around to until now.

Onto Incognito: The Secret Lives of the Brain, Boneshaker, and Blindsight.
Onto Incognito: The Secret Lives of the Brain, Boneshaker, and Blindsight.Incognito is excellent. I posted an article on writing in my blog titled 'The Sexing of Baby Chicks and How to Wrote More Better' which was inspired by an early section of that book. That section, on sexing baby chicks and distinguishing between British and German warplanes during WWII, was excerpted and published in Discover magazine a while back (which is what inspired me to read the book in the first place).
Finished my Harry Potter listen through. Still enjoyable.
Finished my Harry Potter listen through. Still enjoyable. Was going to listen to Red Country by Joe Abercrombie but the Audible app won't download it. Apparently it's not available in the enhanced format or format 4, which are the only 2 the app uses. Well, crap!
Guess I'll listen to The Dirty Streets of Heaven instead.
At the moment, I'm pretty much reading a lot of scholarship on games and authorship. Final projects for graduate seminars are awesome like that.

And Red Country has "enhanced" edition checked in my library? There's an update for the app just come out, maybe worth checking.

Nearly finished Reinventing Comics: How Imagination and Technology Are Revolutionizing an Art Form and Cinder. Still reading Brave New World and The Book of Lost Things for school (but really enjoying both of them!), My Life As a White Trash Zombie for the VF book club, and Moving Pictures.

Finished The Dirty Streets of Heaven, OK book. Had a hard time getting interested at the first but it got better by the 2nd half. Not sure I want to continue the series. If I come across the next book when it comes out and remember the series I may give it a listen, but it's not one I'll keep an eye out for.

I just finished what has been written so far of the demon accords series and loved it (book 1 God Touched) and am waiting impatiently for book 5 to be published. I am now onto the second book of the Iron Druid series Hexed which I'm enjoying so far. The dog side kick is a real laugh and I can see why this series seems to be so popular.

I've read a few zombie novels now and this still remains my favorite of the lot with Feed coming in second.

Kathy wrote: "I've read a few zombie novels now and this still remains my favorite of the lot with Feed coming in second."Feed is definitely on my to read list as well :) The concept seems really appealing, I'll probably start the series when I'm done with World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War.
Thank God, I'm almost done listening to The Dirty Streets of Heaven. I took about an hour break today to start on listening to The Blinding Knife.
Thank God, I'm almost done listening to The Dirty Streets of Heaven. I took about an hour break today to start on listening to The Blinding Knife. In print, I'm reading Alif the Unseen. It's a really good blend of cyberpunk and fantasy. I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
I took a timeout today to read Two Ravens and One Crow, an Iron Druid novella set just before the book that's coming out at the end of the month. I've been listening to the series in audio because Luke Daniels does an amazing job, especially the way he reads Oberon's parts. It was a bit weird reading the novella in e-book version, but the audio was too expensive for such a short work.
I decided to listen to The Number of the Beast. One of the 4 narrators is a favorite of mine - Bernadette Dunne

Alif the Unseen was probably the best book I read this year. I absolutely loved it.
Remember the animated whiteboard for this hard sf book (why is it unlisted?)? It's like a Heinlein juvenile:

Finished the audiobook of The Hobbit & I needed something new to listen to. Jumping into Joe Abercrombie w/The Blade Itself. We'll see if I become a big fan like Veronica is.

Finished Glen Cook's The Black Company.

Next up, Hamilton's second book in the Commonwealth Saga, Judas Unchained
Finished Red Country by Joe Abercrombie. Good book, he's best to date. Had to speed up the narration a bit, 1.25 speed worked best. Normal speed was too slow. Enjoy the gritty, bloody fantasy from time to time, but it can feel wearing by the end of the book. Think I'm going to take a break from audio books for a bit and try to work my way thru my podcast backlog, have 3-4 months worth waiting.

Always an enjoyable read, but I miss when his legal thrillers used to actual be thrillers.
I'm reading The City and the City. It's my first China Miéville book which I picked up after seeing recommendations here. I'm absolutely loving it, really enjoy having to piece together what is going on.

April was it? I know I'll probably cave in and just get the hardback, but I'll definitely try and hold on!
On my Nook, I'm reading The Devil You Know, a supernatural noir novel by Mike Carey. It's really good so far. I hardback, I'm still reading Alif the Unseen.

I'm really enjoying the audiobook of The Blinding Knife. I wasn't expecting to because I really don't like Simon Vance as a narrator, but the story is so good that it's overcoming that.
Listening to The Hobbit and loving it. Also reading Big Breasts & Wide Hips by Mo Yan, the newly named Nobel Prize winner for literature.

I'm reading Elizabeth Bear's new collection Shoggoths in Bloom and other stories, it contains her two Hugo award winning stories and is basically ace. Also super pretty cover.

Right now reading Geekomancy. Seems like just a fun ride and an excuse to cram in a ton of geeky references, but that's fine with me.

There's a prequel called First Shift - Legacy that so far isn't quite up to the standards of the Wool omnibus but it's apparently also the first in trilogy so wait and see at this point.
Was going to take longer break and listen to my backlog of podcasts, but got bored and ended up deleting about half instead.

Reading The Hobbit for S&L and I found a really nice dramatic reading audiobook of Dracula on Librivox. (Multiple readers each reading a different character.) Another classic that I had somehow missed up until this point and really enjoying it.
