Some had book descriptions using the default English descriptions; but, my Finnish is not fluent enough to begin to translate.

Well, there's more finnish serieses which needs to be added to titles.

But in that case, number 4 has always been listed as being number 4; hasn't it? Even when it first came out? The Narnia series hasn't always been listed in chronological order. There was a time when they were published and listed by the publisher in the order of which they were written.

What I was trying to say is that the same book have different numbering. I wasn't trying to get the other series deleted.
Here, these are editions of The Magician's Nephew and one is listed as #6 and the other is #1:
#1 - http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/50...
#6 - http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/65...
You'd only see the difference once you click 'edit' though. What I'm trying to propose is to just make all the editions #1 or #6. There will be no deletion of any of its series, but the numberings for each individual book will be the same. Was that clearer than my previous post?

Wouldn't work. The Magician’s Nephew is book 6 but there is no way to enforce it. The ink wouldn't be dry before something was altered.
The Narnia books are a special case.
From the moment the first book (The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe) was written until 30 years after C.S. Lewis died the first book was always The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. No problems. If Lewis wanted any differerent reading order he could have told his publishers and they would have done it. He never did. The alleged change in reading order to chronological order seems to be only mentioned by Lewis in one single, solitary, letter that he wrote to a young child who actually wanted to read them in that order. Lewis was happy to let that child read them in that order. He still did not make any attempt to alter the "public" order.
The numbering change that moved The Magician’s Nephew to position 1 was done by a publisher. The same series of changes also included the error-ridden lists of characters so I'm not convinced that the publishers knew what they were doing.
The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe WAS the first Narnia book written and the first Narnia book published. It is also the ONLY Narnia book that starts by assuming that you know nothing about Narnia. The Magician’s Nephew starts by assuming you have ALREADY read about Narnia "...It is a very important story because it shows how all the comings and goings between our own world and the land of Narnia first began" (my bold) which makes no sense at all for the first book in the series when no-one would have heard about Narnia.

But changing the old editions to use the modern numbering would be wrong.
Edit: there was a posting here referring to an eBay listing. I've deleted my quote from that posting.

But the newer and older sets of the books have different numbers printed directly on the covers of the individual titles. For instance, this 1970 edition of The Magician's Nephew has the words Book 6 of the Chronicles of Narnia printed directly on its cover. So why would you want to number this particular edition as #1 (assuming chronological order was the order chosen) when it was clearly not considered to be the first one when it was printed? Same holds for the other direction too. If you're going by information found on the covers, the only book your suggestion won't pose a problem for is the last one; all of the others are going to have different numbers on them depending on when the edition of the book was printed.

I agree. I really wish the publishers had left the order alone. Their "improvements" really weren't.

Sorry. That was my posting you're refering to. I posted one answer to Pamela and then decided delete it and post a different one after re-reading her post. I did it almost immediately after posting it so I didn't think anyone had seen it. Sorry for the confusion.

Oh, sorry I did not know that. (:
Let's get started with finnish editions of C. S. Lewis' books.
