[General] Introduce Yourself!
Rollie, I already sent my Paper Towns to the province and I can't delivered it back or borrow it to you. Anyway, you can still check my read-tagged books or you will change your mind. If you don't like to own it, I can give it to somebody.Faye, I'm glad you enjoyed your summer, not like me, all I did was to read books that I already stored for almost 4 years. At least I read them before they turned to dust. Talking about beaches, I was hoping that my family and I will be going to the beach or try the freaking zip line. In the end, it turned out to nothing but broken promises. Haha, at least I read half of my old books and they are still growing non-stop!

DIVERGENT DIVERGENT DIVERGENT!
Rollie, Go to hell, you have to visit the book page and check Iyah and Joyzi's reviews. And no to Divergent, you have to buy your own copy except if you can finish it within 1 hour. Haha.
@Kwesi: It was fun because I had the chance to spend time with my cousins and we rarely get together, we went to snorkeling and it was really nice. I want to try the "freaking" zip line too! haha. Too bad your parents didn't fulfill their promise. hehe. I haven't have much books here in our house na di ko pa nabasa, I went to Booksale kahapon kaso saglit lang kasi I went with my mom, I'm planning to go again on Tuesday after class, hehe, I miss the smell of books and to read (not in front of my monitor. haha)

Okay na. I edited my previous post. Oh well, when can I get my hands on that book then? demanding. :P

Ay wag nalang. hehe. I'm planning to go home next week.
Hello. I'm Mina. I'm not really new in GR. Signed up a long time ago. I was never an active GR-user since I also have Visual Bookshelf in FB. FB used to be entertaining. Now, I just feel harassed and pressured to participate in games and other applications. 2 weeks ago, I was googling for a free software to catalog my growing collection of books and seeing that what's available only allows for 50 entries, I opted for an online version which led me to GR. Was signing up for a new account but I got a notification that I was already a member. Hahaha...
Anyway, that's not exactly an introduction. So here goes. I'm Mina. I'm a single 37-y.o. licensed interior designer. Right after getting my professional license I was bit by an ant in Sorsogon that triggered my allergies to dust and beef. Dust... a given in my line of work. How ironic is that? Practiced for a while thinking that I might get immune to it. But immunity never came despite my weekly visits to Dr. Canlas, Dr. Ong and Dr. Ang (Yes... I tried both easter and western medicine). So, since I wasn't getting any better. I am now contemplating if I should start an interior design outsourcing firm (one that provides interior design drawings) or change careers. My options are:
1. Go into graphic design.
2. Become a visual artist.
3. Become a writer.
The 3rd is a stretch for me since I'm more comfortable with visuals. But, I read somewhere that you attract what you are. And since I'm always fascinated with books, it might just mean that writing is one of my undiscovered talents. Anyway, I'll never know until I give it a try. So, my goal now is to read as many books as i can. Purpose: to be inspired, analyze techniques, and have a starting point for introspection. Oh... I'm now close to being convinced that I can do all 4. Wish me luck and pray for me.
More about the reader me. My love for books started when I met Nancy Drew in the SPCP Library at the age of 10 y.o. Prior to that, the only reading that I do was when my mom would force me to sit and read my school books. At that age I read Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys and Bobbsy Twins. And then around 12 y.o., I got hooked with the Dungeons and Dragons game. Back then, the D&D book was considered a Bible of sorts. Around the same time, the in thing was Choose your Own Mystery books. Sadly I lost all of the books mentioned above when Ondoy happened.
My eldest sister was also into books. I borrowed her Anne of Green Gables, etc. When I was 14 y.o., I read one of her Mills and Boone books but I didn't like it... I puked halfway through the book. Tried her historical romance books also and my thought bubble was that "my sister is obsessed with sex, rape, and submission."
Then, I discovered David Eddings, Anne Rice and Dean Koonts. And I already knew that I'm into Fantasy and Suspense/Thrillers. When I got bored with this, I started reading my dad's books. I discovered Neil Gaiman when I borrowed my dad's copy of Neverwhere (bought from Booksale). After reading this book, I never thought of my dad as old fashioned ever again. Hahaha...
I'm a bit of a neat-freak. Most of the books that I bought still looks unread because you would see creases and folds on them. If there are creases and folds on what I'm reading, I get distracted. Ergo, if I buy a book from booksale or the like, I make sure that it looks new. Maybe this would change if somebody gives me a hardbound first edition of any book. Maybe then, I'd be obsessed with collecting first edition books.
Oh. I'm also looking for an old-fashioned book club. The one that meets weekly, every other week, or even monthly. I find the discussions more dynamic when it's face-to-face rather than online. If you know of any (cainta, cubao or ortigas), please let me know.

Hi, Mina! Welcome. (I'm one week old palang here at Filipino goodreads.)Anne of Green Gables for the win! My most fave YA heroine. Fell in love with Anne and Gilbert at 12 when Jo and Laurie broke my heart at 11.
Hope you can participate in the book discussions here too. I just started and I'm liking it.
Btw, what's Booksale, is it like NBS or do they just sell books?
Hello sa lahat, lalo na sa mga bago! Welcome!@Mina, Anne of Green Gables is my favorite children's book! The Nancy Drew started it all for me. <3
LOL Mills & Boone, meron nyan sa HIGH SCHOOL library namin. Eh tinatamad akong mag-attend ng grad practice so nagkulong ako sa library namin. Kuntsaba ko yung librarian na iwan lang ako dun kahit inventory.
@Ken, your welcome. Thanks for the recommendation also. I already asked my friends from Fully-booked to find me a copy.
@Cate: Thanks. Nice to see a fellow Nancy Drew and Anne fan. And nice arrangement with your librarian.

Hi Francesca and Mina, welcome to our group! Enjoy!FRANCESCA: I've read and liked 'In the Name of the Rose' by Umberto Eco but have not read any of his other books yet. Thanks for letting me know that his essays are good too!
MINA: We've been thinking of face-to-face book discussions for sometime now but it seems that we need to have committed individuals. We are still getting the pulse, so to speak, of the members by seeing which books they normally read and liked without alienating the minority. Most of the members are young and into YA but there are some of them who are also open to read classics and modern fiction. So, maybe next year we will have a monthly group discussion in an old-fashioned book club way.
@KD: That would be nice. Something to look forward to next year. (",) For now, I will try my best to participate online.
@ Mia: Thanks. And guess what, I recently found boxes of books. It's his and my mom's collection of fiction. Can't wait to read them.
Francesca, Mass market paperback, the pocket size book. I'll bring the book next meet-up if you are available. See yah! I can't wait to meet new faces.
KD, Of course I can't, yun yung reason bakit pupunta ako bukas kasi may pasalubong na naman ako. Haha.
K.D. wrote: "JIM: No need to apologize. I'll be hunting for your book. Promise. Any of those names does not ring a bell too. But maybe it's me and the fact that I am not really into reading Filipino poems."I don't want to tell anyone to buy my books, although that would be nice and will make my publisher happy - which in turn might mean they will seek my next book(s), and also other poets. Maybe a bigger shelf will be given for Filipino authors by monopolies like National Book Store. That might lead to more Filipino books being published, help the people in the industry expand Filipino literature, perhaps even consider international distribution... get my drift? :)
Thank you.

I don't need other book. All I want is your Divergent. If not, I'm really praying for its pages to turn into yellow immediately. haha. Or maybe your Paper Towns will make up for it. ;)
