Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Hindi ba separate entities ang book at ang film adaptation? But yes, I perfectly understand. I, too, was so mad with Romanek's Never Let Me Go. But on second viewing, I thought it was good. Try not to think of the book while watching the adaptation. I know it's hard, but the film will be appreciated more. :D

Maria (mariasm) | 2441 comments apir tayo, faye! i liked IANF movie better than the book. mas enjoy sya.

suspenseful and brooding ung book eh, but i loved it, kaso nasilaw ako kay Alex Pettyfer at Teresa Palmer, kaya ayun mas like ko ung movie. hahaha!

message 3455: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Ako, pareho. IANF movie at book.

Those two media should not be compared really. They are different. In reading you use your imagination. In viewing you just see what you see. So, if you're imagination is better than the director of the movie(probably like Renz) you will oftentimes find the book better than its movie adaptation.

The only movies that are equally as good (or even better in some aspects) as book for me are LOTR, Godfather and HP series. And of course Book 1 of Percy Jackson.

Hi! :) ...just joined the group this week. I'm a librarian...oh please remove the stereotypical image of a librarian from your mind's eye :D...I work in a Grade School library at hindi ako masungit (nakasalamin nga lang at madalas naka-ponytail). I love working in a school library since I can read and buy all those juvenile lit that I like (hey! that's part of the job). Yes, I do love reading children's books but my love for reading doesn't end there...I just read whatever I fancy (fiction or non-fiction) at the moment and I sometimes read more than 1 book at a time.

Good day sa lahat!

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Hello Mia!
Like:
1) Looking for Alaska
2) Abundance of Katherines
3) Percy Jackson series?
Ha ha

message 3458: by [deleted user] (new)

hahaha...thanks KD!

Marami kaming novels dito :D Since it's a school library almost half of our collection are story books and novels for grades 1 to 7. Definitely may Percy Jackson series. I'm not familiar with the first two but I'm definitely going to find out more about those books. (I am born curious :D)

Dystopian | 23 comments Hi guys! I'm Miguel, 19, from Rizal. I'm currently an undergrad soon-to-be ex-Fine Arts, soon-to-be CSSP student sa UP Diliman. Currently, I'm working on summer in a small call center company in Ortigas.

Books I'm fond of reading are anything that involves robotics, cybernetics, biological experimentation/ warfare, near-future postapocalypse, metaphysical discourses, alternate realities, noir, near-future narratives, totalitarian governments and megacorps, interstellar treks, and time. I am deeply interested and immersed in works by Philip K. Dick, William Gibson, Isaac Asimov, Robert Silverberg, Robert Heinlein, Arthur Clarke, and Ursula Le Guin.

Some books on my shelf I will forever cherish: 1984 (Orwell), Replay (Grimwood), The Forever War ( Haldemann), 2001: A Space Odyssey (Clarke), Metamorphosis (Kafka), the Sprawl/Bridge Series(Gibson), and finally, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (Dick). Addenda to follow once I get over my other books hehe. :))

I read novels of another genre every once in a while, most recently Norwegian Wood (Murakami), Pig Tales (Darriuseq), Tell-All (a Palahniuk, but it is a slight disappointment though)

Bookstores I frequent: Booksale, Powerbooks

Hello! :)

sorry for the late reply, I liked what K.D said. I find the movie better kasi I think na I should give credits when it's due and this time, nagawa ng productions na mabigyan ng magandang portrayal yung book into a movie and not everyone can do that.

Hi to Mia and Miguel. :)

Hey Kwesi! Thanks for the welcome. I actually understand your sentiment :) The stereotypical librarian image did not create itself on its own but, hopefully, new librarians are trying to change that (and I hope they succeed) :D

Veronica | 734 comments @Mia: I loved the first librarian I ever met. I was Grade 2 and had to wait for my sister to finish her classes before I could go home so I hung out at the library. She was this stern old lady who was constantly shushing the slightest giggle from the students. She took a liking to me, maybe because I was there everyday and was quiet (sa totoo lang takot kasi ako sa kanya). She introduced me to a lot of books that got me started on my love for reading. She never smiled at me but I loved her anyway. I named my Kindle after her. :)
Long live librarians!

@Veronica - awww, that's so nice to hear :) We do get misunderstood sometimes. I have to admit that there are times I have to be stern to some kids but I try to balance it with being friendly and by approaching students and asking them if they need help in finding library materials. I'm glad she was able to impart love for reading to you which should be the ultimate goal of all school librarians :) Saka na yung research, dapat pag nag-uumpisa pa lang magbasa, making reading enjoyable should be the focus :)

message 3486: by Angus (new)

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Hi Mia! I love librarians! Back in high school, I used to volunteer at our library during lunch breaks. Parang wala lang. Hindi pa nga ako reader noon eh. The library just had an irresistible force on me. Then some of my classmates followed my volunteerism. The next year, we organized The Junior Librarians' Club. I was the treasurer (and I wanted so badly to be the president, haha). Then I started reading as well for entertainment. I think the club and the library ignited my passion for books (plus my book report on To Kill A Mockingbird).

Then I bumped into our librarian after a decade. She recognized me! I so love her! She's young and fresh and not the typical librarian na stern at naninigaw kapag maingay. Siguro early 20's siya noong high school ako. So yes, when I met our librarian, we had a quick chat then she showed me her first-born's baby pics. Sweet.

Actually, pwede akong mag-ingay sa library noon. Me and my friends would have reading sessions after class, lalo na kapag kami na lang ang mga students sa library.

I hope you have such clubs from where you work. :)

message 3487: by Faye (new)

Faye (fayegerarldine) | 71 comments @Angus: I used to be a member of Book Club in our school and nakarelate ako dun sa 'feeling' of irresistable force, yung parang pag pumasok ka sa library ang gaan ng feeling at nakakabrighten ng day. haha.

message 3488: by Angus (new)

Bordering on epal na nga eh, haha.

message 3489: by Faye (new)

Faye (fayegerarldine) | 71 comments @Angus, haha.

message 3490: by Angus (new)

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments @Faye: Korak!

message 3491: by Faye (new)

Haha. More than worth it naman pala ang tulong mo sa kanila e.

message 3492: by Angus (new)

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments @Faye: Sabagay, but I enjoyed it so much. Yung classroom kasi namin noon yung kabila library agad. At saka kapag maraming tao yung mga student aides nagtetake over na.

message 3493: by K.D. (last edited May 10, 2011 04:33PM) (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Ako, I don't have memories about librarians. Kasi may elementary and high schools did not have libraries. So, walang librarians! ha ha

Hi Angus! Yup, I used to handle Jr. Librarians' but I have to give it up nung nag-iba ang posisyon ko since mas marami na akong responsibility na handle. Masaya talaga makipag-interact with students.

Mia, gusto mong ayusin yung book shelf ko? kalat-kalat eh. The erratic thing about me, I sometimes don't care if I don't get the same edition in a series so may hardbound at may softbound, may big prints and may regular size. so ngayon, hirap ayusin ang bookshelf ko.

@Monique and @Ranee - hehehe...madali lang mag-ayos ng shelf...next time na may problema ako at kailangang mag-isip e hahanapin ko kayo :)
But really, there's something therapeutic about it, parang habang inaayos ko yung libro e inaayos ko din yung thoughts ko :D
