[General] Introduce Yourself!
Hello, everyone! My name is Mina, and I'm new to Goodreads (newer still to the groups!). I'm a writer (one book published with Summit, another with the Kindle store), but was a reader for much, much longer, so I'm glad I wandered in here and found so many of you who feel the same way. :) I have a lot of posts to catch up on!
Some basics about my reading habits: Started with Sweet Valley Twins (#2 Teacher's Pet!), then graduated into SVH, Nancy Drew, Sweet Dreams. Super favorite from that era: Christopher Pike. I still have most of his books! Can't bear to give them away. Right now, I love: Neil Gaiman's Smoke and Mirrors, Time Traveler's Wife, The End of the Affair, The Beach, Life of Pi, and most recently Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Also a "batang Booksale". 90% of books I purchase are from there. (Love Fully Booked and Powerbooks too, but I buy there mostly books I give as gifts, bihira yung for myself.) Now I've gotten serious about ebook reading, because I spend so much time during the day just waiting for things (my ride home, bank tellers, etc etc). But I still have a good old-fashioned book on my nightstand that I read a bit of every night. (That's Ilustrado by Miguel Syjuco right now.)
Looking forward to the group's book discussions. :)

You should be proud of where you are working, Cienne... come on, tell us now, and be proud. hehehe! ;)
Ohhh Cienee...As a conspiracy theorist I think you're doing a marketing strategy for certain bookstore out there...
Well then it's a good one knowing the feelings of the grass roots and all...
I hope this will be for the good of customers i.e. bookworms like us, in terms of better services and in the name of affordable books...
just my bit...
Casey wrote: "I dont have the patience in waiting for the clue to reveal.. I guess we should force Cienne. hahaha!"On your cue guys!

Cienne wrote: "i'm proud... it's just that... it's not appropriate to say here... hahaha"Arrghh! I should've known it!
You're under an Unbreakable Vow!
Well, it's gonna be hard to wheedle that information out of you I guess... seeing that your life will be at stake and all...
Cienne wrote: "i need your resumes then... send it to me... please... please... cienne_sheynn@yahoo.comi'm serious!"
you even use a free e-mail :) you're being careful huh! :)
Hey, why is it not appropriate?! You can promote whatever bookstore here. Spill it! Nobody would mind. :)
Cienne wrote: "if you guys are so so so interested... i can tell it in private... hahaha"are you really willing to give us all a private message? It's a lot of effort, I tell you, because everybody here is curious on which bookstore you're working for. :)
Ace wrote: "are you really willing to give us all a private message? It's a lot of effort, I tell you, because everybody here is curious on which bookstore you're working for. :)"Agree!
That'll be a lot of effor on your part Cienne...
just one post with that one answer and we'll stop bugging you...
Shoot. We're talking about bookstores on the splurges thread. Cienne would be able to read those.!!Common Cienne, spill it. It's really not fair.!! :)
haha... well, it depends actually, every time you request for the title at the customer service they record it, if it gets a certain # of hits, they will order in bulk... so i guess the trick here is to constantly ask the book title at the customer service... if you don't want it pre-ordered... 3 to 6 weeks to re-order again... well, i think, it's a lot cheaper to buy here than it is with shipping cost and all... what i learned here is that, book business is not easy... the replenishment side is just too risky, that's the reason why books are a bit pricey... if only you guys would see the mountain pile of bargain books (those were dead stocks, or if you're lucky you'd come across a slightly damaged good book/big title book)
Ace wrote: "I'll stop bugging her na... hahaha!"hahaha... update me ha! ako i'm really interested... baka working part-time will do... will ask my boss
Yeah, that's what I do. For example, I already asked a branch if they have a certain kind of book and they will say no, then I'll ask them if other branches has a copy and even if they say no, I will still go to another branch and ask again the same questions. It's really pretty hard getting the books I want to read. Most of my friends that I trust their judgment on books are from US and the availability of books here is pretty scarce compare to the the bookstores there. I'm just a little heartbroken with the bookstores[both the F and the P:] here. I keep on asking if they already got The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Hairstyles of the Damned for two to three months already, and until now they don't have.

I already went to PB Megamall, Ermita, Greenbelt, Glorietta, Trinoma, Shangrila as well as FB North, Trinoma, Greenbelt, Powerplant, Shangrila, Gateway and also NBS Ermita, Megamall, Trinoma, North, Glorietta, Gateway. Unfortunately neither one of those got a copy available.
As for the hard to find books, the only way for us to really know this books exist is if you guys would feed us the information. The sad truth is that not all will be served. Some of the reasons that I have learned is that, publishers tend to give "credit limit", most of the time masyado maliit kaya yung rarefinds madalas de-prioritize... sad fact, mas binibili at mas umiikot kasi ang pera sa bestsellers... of course, it is a goal in mind to cater all your wishlist, kaya we are looking for opportunities to max out the revenues so we can afford to buy more books, wider selection... if tumataas ang benta... there is a huge chance na tumaas din ang credit limit... it's a give and take process... :)

great to have you here. I just hope that the bookstore you are working for is FB or PB(and since you said that it has a cozy ambiance, I am pretty sure its just the two cause who will say that NBS has a cozy ambiance) :) You said that you guys are the first to know when is a book will come out here in Phil but whenever I ask a PB or FB staff when is this book will be put on sale they always tell me that they don't know. I am following a lot of series so I always ask when is the release date of this and that from time to time.
Hi Denise,

Hi Casey,
