[General] Introduce Yourself!
Guys I think it's safe to assume that we would be reading "The Catcher In The Rye" this June. Please do participate on our monthly book read.
Kuya Doni wrote: "Have you tried one of Ethan Hawke's books? Is he good? He is one of the readers of the poems of Pablo Neruda in the soundtrack of Il Postino. Although I haven't read anything by him, meself. Sayang nga, should have bought his book when there were still plenty of copies of it in Booksale.

It still shows up once in a while. Bibili ako para sa yo. Bayaran mo ako sa meetup.
@Jam - I even have the DVD of the movie. My sister in Winnipeg bought it there. It's soundtrack - HK. The book - NBS Megamall during the time the movie was shown.

I like Anne Frank too but I hate Wally Lamb. I am neutral on Paulo Coelho and I do not have any idea bout Elizabeth Berg. Have you tried Murakami? We have many Murakami fans here with Ranee as our lead! And there is Aaron leading the YA front!

Hello, I'm not Pinoy, I'm Kano, pero nakatira ako sa Philippines para sa dalawang taon, kaya I love the Philippines! Oh, and I love reading! So, kung may mga librong Tagalog na masarap basahin(I need to practice my Tagalog so I don't forget it, such an awesome language), then, I want to read it!Yan lang po. :)
P.S.
Kung mali ang Tagalog ko sa mga post ko sabihin mo lang. Salamat!
Hello everyone, obviously am new. but its good to be here... :)) i am more on inspirational like Paulo Coelho and Mitch Albom's books. But i can read anything. haha.. it actually depends on my mood. :)
Glaire wrote: "Hello everyone, obviously am new. but its good to be here... :)) i am more on inspirational like Paulo Coelho and Mitch Albom's books. Can you give an example of your most common mood and the book you read when you are in that mood?
Glaire wrote: "Hello everyone, obviously am new. but its good to be here... :)) i am more on inspirational like Paulo Coelho and Mitch Albom's books. But i can read anything. haha.. it actually depends on my mood..."Hi Glaire!
Welcome to the Filipino Group!
Like you I also like Coelho and every inspirational book that I can get my hands on.
I think that stems not from religion but from my optimistic outlook in life. 'Nuff said.
My warm regards and happy reading! ^_^
Hi! I'm Celina...I've been lurking here in the group for a couple of months now. But I hardly get to comment because there are always so many posts, and I can't keep up.:)I read a lot of YA nowadays, an influence of my friend Chachic.:) I hope to meet everyone soon and join in the discussions!
Welcome Celina & Glaire! I love Mitch Albom too! I am collecting his books, now that im finish with 5 People you meet in heaven and Tuesdays with Morrie. :D

Hi Celina! It's my first time to see you here in GR. I am no longer a YA siguro. Filipino na lang. Wala namang OA (old adult) na group ha ha ha
K.D. wrote: "Hi Celina! It's my first time to see you here in GR. I am no longer a YA siguro. Filipino na lang. Wala namang OA (old adult) na group ha ha ha"Haha! Yes, I just lurk around and read posts when I can. Dami lang mga posts kaya di ko pa nababasa lahat. I'm not a Young Adult anymore either, feeling young lang. Hehe!:)
Joselito wrote: "Sa amin ka na lang, the Young Alzheimers' Group. YA din."Mas gusto ko ang genre na ito...
Naglilipana na kasi lately ang mga amnesia-inspired plots...
K.D. wrote: "Hi Celina! It's my first time to see you here in GR. I am no longer a YA siguro. Filipino na lang. Wala namang OA (old adult) na group ha ha ha"I still don't know how to use this so here are the reviews of paton Walsh:
GOLDENGROVE UNLEAVING
Winner of the Globe-Horn Book Award
Once a year cousins Madge and Paul visit Goldengrove, their grandmother's idyllic Cornish home. But one year as summer turns to autumn and as they are drawn from childhood to maturity, their seemingly indomitable grandmother turns to winter, and the precious moments of innocence begin to be swept away...
Years later Madge, now living at Goldengrove, reflects on her own grandchildren and the events and revelations which disturbed the tranquillity of her childhood, as current events begin to strike echoes from the past. Against a stunning Cornish backdrop, Goldengrove Unleaving is a lasting tale of innocence and beauty amidst the calm and storm of changing lives.
Praise for Goldengrove Unleaving:
"An extremely good story, marvellously told. As the story gathers momentum, the deeply understood characters, the golden atmosphere, the small change of everyday pleasures and ageless tragedies are all put over with such newly seen immediacy and such controlled mastery that the reader is carried along like a surf rider on the crest of a wave, knowing it must soon break." The Times Literary Supplement
"Written with an intensity of feeling and care, with a Woolf-like awareness of the instant's sensation: a story all in the present tense but with a remarkable sense of an over-shadowing past." The Guardian
"Paton Walsh doesn't tidy up the blight for which man was born. She's too wise to attempt answers about growing, living, dying, ethical choices. She exalts the mystery, the unknowing itself." The New York Times Book Review

Hi Marie and Marianne! Welcome to the Filipino group here in GR! Hope you can introduce yourselves a bit more. Hope that you can also be active as possible.
Sino kaya ang mas maraming magsa-sign up between YA (Young Alzheimers') or YAH (Young at Heart) sub-groups?
bago pa lang ako sa mundo ng pagbabasa, siguro mga 10 novels pa lang.nagbabasa na ko dati pero puro mga book reviews lang.
Hmmm: I like to read a lot, I am raising two kids, my undergrad was A.B. Reading (actually, English), and I stumbled into law because I didn't know else to do. If I had my way in college I'd have been a Human Ecology specialist. My fear is to be a negligent child and parent, a braggart, matapobre lawyer whose brains are for sale to the highest bidder, no matter how execrable that client's request is, because I am just so greedy for so many things. I like my privacy, people with a great sense of humor and a lot of kindness, solitude, parks, poetry, art and gardening. (what a jumble). My mantra: Manila needs more parks!
Hello and welcome, Marie and Marianne! :)@Marie...i like parks, too. My favorite is the Ayala Triangle Park. My friends and I jog there. Sometimes I just drop by there to use the free wi-fi. :) I leave the gardening stuff to my Plants vs. Zombies Zen Garden.
(I can't remember if I posted in this thread back when I first joined and it's kind of hard to look for it in case I did...soooo here I go)Hi everyone! I've been a member of this Goodreads and this group for some time now but it's only now that I am actually going through the groups and such. So hi!
I'm Tina, 24 years old from Cainta. I've been reading since I was introduced to Sweet Valley in Grade 3 (haha) and I've never left the house without a book since then. :) I'm usually into chick lit and YA, and right now fantasy, too. :) I also maintain a book blog (http://onemorepage.tinamats.com) and I write book reviews for The Philippine Online Chronicles (http://www.thepoc.net) Pinoy Pop features. :)
Sooo hi! I'm not really good in being active in things like these but my profile is pretty active, and I'm going to try my best to post here more to get to know you guys as well :)
Hi Marie, Marianne and Tina!Welcome to the Filipino Group!
Oohh cool Tina! You write book reviews for POC!
Gahd! POC is one of my stops, well I always like to read Metakritiko because I'm a fan of Adam David and all...
Anywway...
My warm regards and happy reading to you all!! ^_^

Hi jzhunagev! :) Pinoy Pop is one of the geeky features in POC, that's why I have to pick a fantasy/scifi/horror pick every week to review. :D It's fun, I get an excuse to read more books. :D
Ohhh wow! I guess I better check that out. I wish I was like you, getting paid for the reviews you write... *sighs of envy*
Well I'm not that good a writer yet so others might avoid the POC if they read my deplorable book reviews... Ahahaha! :D

Ah you should see the edits I get after I write an article. :P Haha sometimes I wonder how I got the gig too :))
But just keep on writing reviews. Someday some people may pick it up and get you a writing gig. Or, if not, you can always get ARCs with the reviews you write. :D

My multiply page is not that publicized naman, so I wouldn't get noticed. I keep it for my non-GR friends so that they can still read something from me...
And I guess, I just like to see reviews at Multiply...
Well, I just do it just for the hell of it and it's fun, rewarding and worth my while...
But still, you're lucky Tina... ^_^
Hi Tina. Welcome to GR Filipino Group. I have been reading your reviews. Hope you can join us in our Meet Up II next month.
Hi.I joined because i wanted to see what most of you guys read and where do you usually buy books. I benchmark because i need to understand the trend and customer behavior. Obviously, i work for a certain bookstore (i hope you won't force me to spill the name of the company) and currently I am in-charge of helping the company turn around the business. It was of course a very exciting job mainly because I have always been a fan of books myself and the cozy ambiance of the bookstore I am currently working. Add to that, the fact that I have always been dreaming of putting up a library one day. The best thing about the job that I appreciate the most is being one of the first to learn the schedule of when the book's coming here in the philippines, be able to get the book in the most convenient way possible, be able to borrow books i like if i don't have the month's budget, be able to get the advance reading copies, discounts and of course, the employee sale (only here can you get big titles/hard bound at 10 to 30 pesos). I have been with them since January 4, and I confessed that there were already 100's bought since then. It was a huge pile of books left unread in my room, too bad i'm not a fast reader.
My favorites were mostly those that are easy to read (chicklit, sophie kinsella, etc.), love to re-read like tuesdays with morrie, drucker, and random others. I am pretty much open to reading almost anything (vampire stories, business books, suspense thriller, romance, but in truth, the thing that attracts me the most is a good cover, i guess, i never learn...)
i am drooling Cienne! employee sale? Huwaaw! Kasama ba medical books dun? hehe. Anyway, welcome to our group!
Hello! My name is Denise and I embrace Manille in all its glory. I'm a big fan of vanilla ice cream, cereal with oats, rainy nights, and sitcoms. Sometimes, I paint. This is my first book club so yeah. :)
Hi Cienne: wow! we now have an insider in this group. i look forward to your active participation in this Filipino group. hope to see you in our (our 2nd) next meet-up! I also enjoy easy reads. Who wants to punish himself reading hard reads anyway? ha ha haHi Denise: are you French? I love those stuff you mentioned too! Hope that you enjoy your first book club. This is my first too (member since March 2009) and I am enjoying it!
Welcome, ladies!
Ranee wrote: "i am drooling Cienne! employee sale? Huwaaw! Kasama ba medical books dun? hehe. Anyway, welcome to our group!"

Who..."hehe, i am slight disappointed actually with my findings, but that was me one of the in-charge to turn things around, so we'll see, thank you all for your opinions about book and bookstore preferences. Hope to attend one of your meet-ups...
Hi Cienne! Awesome, if I didn't love my job so much, I'd also work in a bookstore. :P Or maybe even start my own. Hi Denise! Welcome to the group. :)
Casey: I think I may be crazy at times, too, so you're not alone. :)
Casey wrote: "hi i'm casey.. half lunatic, half weirdo, and half eccentric.. ^^ in short totally crazy.."Hi Casey! Welcome to the Filipino group and hope you will be very active in responding to our threads here in the Filipino group. If you are half-this and half-that, Jzhun is whole-this and whole-that! He is our resident alien and will never be dislodge in those lunacy, weirdo (he calls himself phony) and eccentricity departments! We love him just the same! Ha ha ha
K.D. wrote: Hi Denise: are you French? I love those stuff you mentioned too! Hope that you enjoy your first book club. Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. I'm beyond ecstatic!
Hey!Three new members and all!
Welcome Cienne, Denise, and Casey (who's my friend at yonder FB)!
I agree with Kuya Doni that we can have genuine insider at that (undisclosed) bookstore (but I think I have a fair idea of what it is). At least may isa na sa makapagbibigay ng discounts or whether that bookstore has something cooking up...
Ahehehe...
All in all, my warm regards and happy reading! ^_^
